In the show, both Rue and Cassie lost their dads. Rues dad died from cancer (I think) which was part of the reason she became a drug addict.
while Cassie’s dad was a drug addict himself, and ended up leaving and not coming back (unless he needed money for drugs) which led to Cassie having daddy issues and constantly needing male validation

In a scene where Cassie was arguing with her mother, she said that her life was harder than (or just as hard) Rues because even though Rues dad died, Cassie’s dad CHOSE to leave them.

My parents are ignorant as hell. Even when social anxiety and depression fucked my 30 years of life, my dad still keeps saying that you are not in life, you are just at home lying and sleeping, that is why you are like that, he thinks I am a heroin addict because doctors prescribed me medications.

But that ignorant son of a bitch does not even know that he is the biggest part of this problem. All my life I fought with this issues.
