Is it worse to lose a parent to death, or by abandonment?

This question is inspired by Euphoria
In the show, both Rue and Cassie lost their dads. Rues dad died from cancer (I think) which was part of the reason she became a drug addict.
while Cassie’s dad was a drug addict himself, and ended up leaving and not coming back (unless he needed money for drugs) which led to Cassie having daddy issues and constantly needing male validation

In a scene where Cassie was arguing with her mother, she said that her life was harder than (or just as hard) Rues because even though Rues dad died, Cassie’s dad CHOSE to leave them.

It’s worse to have a parent die

They’re both equally bad and it’s unfair to compare situations

Parents don't want to die whats the point of reproducing if you know you're going to leave abruptly, I'd say most parents don't know when they die before their child grows up it was a tragedy in their family. The abandonment is a choice and you are lawfully charged for it so it is a crime, if your parent would rather be in jail than to raise their child, that's horrible.

You can always get your parent back from abandonment. But when they die its final...

Both are awful. Abandonment is a choice though usually. I think that part about choice is what would eat at me.

If by Death, you will never see them again, but if abandonment, it's different.
