It started in 1996 when Sally Snowden McKay, 75, and her nephew, musician Joseph ‘Lee’ Baker, 52, were found shot dead inside their home.

It was understood they’d disturbed a burglar and the suspect – 16-year-old Travis Lewis – had shot them in fright.

He then, reportedly, set fire to the house. The teenager, who had been living with his parents nearby, was quickly arrested and charged with the double murder. Despite saying someone else had been involved, on April 7, 1998, Lewis pleaded guilty to the crime. Tried as an adult, he was handed a 28-and-a-half year jail sentence of which he had to serve at least 70 per cent.

Sally’s big-hearted daughter, Martha McKay, believed he deserved to be rehabilitated. A practising Buddhist, she forgave Lewis for what he’d done and began writing to him in prison.

When Lewis was eventually freed in 2018, after serving 22 years, Martha quietly gave him a job. By this time, she had moved to Snowden House (the house her mother was killed in), having bought it from the rest of the family. She had renovated and restored the run-down property, with all its ghosts and dark past, into a high-end bed-and-breakfast and wedding venue. It meant that Lewis, 39, was literally back at the scene of his crime with Martha, locally known as the Lady of the Lake, demonstrating the ultimate forgiveness.

But on Wednesday, March 25 of this year, police responded to an alarm at Snowden House. History was repeating itself as they quickly discovered a body.

Martha, 63, was found at the top of the marble stairs wrapped in a blanket. She’d been stabbed. The suspect, Travis Lewis, fled the scene and was observed by the police jumping into the lake and swimming under water but he never came back up. Forensic specialist later recovered his body.

First and foremost let me just say, yes I am aware that the N-word is a slur, racially against African-Americans to be specific. But in much of the same way that cookie, monkey, ape, or the abbreviated version of raccoon is, and even Uncle Tom (fun fact: my half-Asian, half-Caucasian therapist's uncle is named Tom).

Today I went to a restaurant, and I will not mention which one because of privacy reasons, but this guy looked at me disturbed while I was greeting him with a simple "hi." I thought that he and a female coworker were being very rude for not greeting me back. I yelled, convincing him to say "hi" back. He was basically tone-policing me and I did not like that the two workers had poor manners.

Mind you I was raised in a semi-strict, bordering on conservative Christian household where manners were very much a big deal. The hi/hello/hey, please, thank you, and occasionally the sir/ma'am (my parents didn't require me to refer to them or their relatives as such).

Anyway, back on topic, I questioned their poor manners and went full on political (like I usually do in my emotional outbursts). This time instead of being anti-Trump I went full pro-Trump and even pro-DeSantis, but in my heart I was really mocking the fundamentalist part of the Trump and DeSantis fanbases for their lack of manners and for wanting to get rid of critical race theory.

I feel like these workers were very racist towards me. So I wanted to give a full shot by testing to see if they really were. I am not fully White, only about two-thirds (though I mark myself as such in applications). My paternal grandfather is mixed with Middle Eastern and Black. My Blackness veils in me, but I don't let it be the main factor of me. I never even considered myself Black before finding out my ancestors.

The way that I used the N-word, however, was not racist even with the hard 'r'. It was meant to be synonymous with "ignorant". The employee chased after me with a pocket knife and I ran away very quick.

With slavery you had an industry that profited in the billions by severing children from their parents. With abortion you have an industry that profits by severing children from their parents. And they use the same arguments. So there’s an argument from ownership this slave/baby is my property/body. There’s the argument from privacy no one is forcing you to have slaves/abortions. There’s the argument from superseding rights, My property/my bodily autonomy rights come before the slave/fetuses. There’s the argument from inevitably, slavery/abortion has been around for thousands of years and it’s never going away. Might as well keep it safe and legal. There’s the argument from pseudoscience, well you know slave/fetuses aren’t real people. They’re not like us. Just look at them, they’re so different. Therefore we’re human and they are not. Well we’d say that’s not science, that sounds like gnostic body self dualism that you’re slapping a label of science onto. There’s the argument from socioeconomic, if slavery/abortion ends, most of these slaves/babies will end up on the streets without a job. So it’s better to kill them. There’s the argument from faux compassion, which says the same thing the world can be a cruel place, it’s better to keep them enslaved/kill them. I could go on and on but my point is this it’s the same beast it’s the same agenda and not ironically it’s also wiping out more black people than slavery racists could have ever dreamed of doing.
