I lived in Connecticut where I was born all my life until 2018. I had just finished my first year of community college with 32 credits and I'd planned from the beginning to move to Texas to start my career.

Little did I know I'd be going a lot sooner than expected as my father was offered a job by my uncle in Texas, so we all moved down in late 2018. It's taken me a while to get used to the heat as 80 degrees is considered very hot in Connecticut but that's comfortable here.

At first I felt lost, like I didn't really belong there but the benefits of living here as opposed to Connecticut started coming very quickly as soon as I was able to motivate myself to groom myself up (I isolated myself for months because I'd spiraled into a depression) and get acclimated to the weather and start looking for work (Texas is ranked #1 in the nation for labor).

I got a job easily at a sandwich shop which didn't pay a lot but it's an accomplishment not really doable in Connecticut.

I also noticed how much cheaper everything is, especially housing and a lot less red tape to purchase a firearm, along with hunting areas and wildlife unlike anything I'd ever seen in Connecticut. Everything is so much cleaner and workers are picking up garbage all the time, which is something I didn't see in CT.

I've learned to love the state and really call it my home as I am getting back on track to start my career. I don't see myself moving out of the state unless it's to move to Florida to be with my long distance girlfriend in a case where she believes life for her and her family would be best in Florida instead of Texas. Me and her have a very bright future together and I hope I can sell her on the vast opportunity that Texas has to offer which just doesn't exist anywhere else. Moving to Texas was an excellent decision.

Have you moved from state to state? Are you glad you moved?

I'm asking because I'm not a father but my sister was saying how she'd much rather have done what my dad did than even raise one child. I completely disagree. I'm not a parent but I feel like even 60 hours at something I hate on behalf of my family is harder than raising 2 children I love. I do recognize that raising kids is like a job without pay, but you have food and shelter and more because your spouse loves you. Is that security not enough? Do you feel like you need luxury because of all that you do at home? After work, it's not like one person is doing everything although there is one primary homemaker.

Please share if you have experience. I'm not saying either is easy. I'm not saying either should be disrespected. I'm just saying that it feels like to me that people should be happy to be spending time with their children and should respect that someone else is willing to do something he/she hates to feed the family.

I really am open to hearing opinions though. Maybe I'm missing something. I love my sister too by the way but I just feel like she's disrespecting my dad by saying this. At one point, he actually worked without a day off for over a year, 85 hours/week, and they actually had 6 kids together. by the way I absolutely love my mom. She's my hero and she kept our family together, and my dad actually is far from the coolest person in the world but I still recognize what he did for our family.

Just in case you're wondering why I didn't use the numbers 85 hours and 6 kids, it's because those numbers are difficult for people to comprehend. Also, I'm thinking about my future, and I don't plan to have 6 kids or work 85 hours/week

My girlfriend who I've been with for 2 years is poor, although she's going to college, she lives in a single family home with 2 brothers and her mom who's now unable to work. She does all the house work and drives everyone around while also helping her stepmother work.

We're long distance so I can't do a ton to help her from here but things are moving, we're both trying to decide whether it's best if I move over there, she moves to me or we both leave our areas and settle elsewhere. My goal is to move her in with me and take law school here.

I work 50 hours a week but it doesn't pay much, however I do help her when she needs it as her ability to make money is severely diminished by her packed schedule. I'm starting a career and hopefully I'll be in within a year and be making more than double what I am now and working a lot less hours.

That's my long way of saying I don't place being rich high on my priorities as I don't seek financial security with someone else, I seek a real love connection and I found that with her. Of course for us both to be rich would be great but that's not going to happen anytime soon, she needs to finish college and i need to start my career which is projected to net me $126,000 per year after taxes 10 years from now.

Her career selection as a lawyer will bring her a lot of money as well. She hasn't been money hungry with me either as I told her last year about when my card was declined because I had a financial rut and some in the past few months and her reaction, or lack thereof was heartwarming.

Me and her aren't well off now but we will be in the future as we both invest time, money and energy into a financially secure future together. I'll even be able to afford her law school tuition when she finishes college next year and I look forward to it😊
