For context, my brother has been dating his girlfriend, P, for two years. I absolutely adore P—she’s like the sister I never had. Long before they began dating, however, I met her brother, T. He and I are in the same grade, only about six months apart in age.

I first met T in seventh grade, when he was still a bit of a “geeky” guy. By the middle of eighth grade, I had my first boyfriend and met P for the first time around Thanksgiving. Back in seventh grade, I had a small crush on T, but it was nothing I ever considered acting on.

During freshman year, T and I had science together and started talking occasionally. I began to realize I still liked him. As our siblings grew closer, so did we. Whenever we passed each other in the hallways, we would exchange smiles—he has the cutest dimples when he smiles.

By the end of freshman year, I wanted to ask for his number, but I was too nervous. He was talking to someone at the time, and I didn’t want to overstep boundaries; if I were in that girl’s position, I wouldn’t want him giving out his number to other girls.

I hadn’t seen him for about three months until today, when we had back-to-school night. He was there with a friend, and he smiled at me like no time had passed. Later, he came over to my house because he, my brother, and P were going to the lake. When I saw him, my heart skipped several beats. I tried to keep my cool, distracting myself by making cookies and watching a show.

I don’t know if he’s dating or talking to anyone. If he’s not, I’m wondering if I should ask for his number and get to know him better. Before pursuing anything, I would make sure P was comfortable with it, because the last thing I’d want is to betray her trust or cross a boundary in our friendship.

Me= I was going to say that no matter what, you don't need my permission for that. Sure it's uncomfortable, to be honest, but I would never stop someone from being friends or anything with someone.

She= No, I know that! But I still wanted to ask you because I didn't want to go behind your back, you're still my best friend❤️

Me= That's my honest answer. Well thought out, that's my honest answer anyway.

She= And if you had said no, I wouldn't have contacted him

Story = so in 2023 me and this guy Luke dated from May- August, but broke up because he says he had issues with his family and work and is so stressed and can't jungle everything rn or give me the kind of man I want rn. So I thought that I should not be a burden and just accept his excuse and break up. During the first week we were dating , I had asked my friends if they knew him. my best friend sayd she knows him and that they had a small crush on each other when they were teenagers and he had kissed her on the cheek and run. I felt uncomfortable and even tho I had began to like Luke a lot, I was ready to end it, but then my best friend sayd that I don't need to end it because they don't have feelings for each other and that I should not let it come between me and love. So I trusted her words, but still felt uncomfortable and wanted to hear Luke's side of the story too if he likes her or if they were together of something long ago. He sayd no and a assured me that it was just a small crush back then and he doesn't feel anything for her. So I trusted him and felt less ucomfortable.

God I was blind...

Over the years child abductions have increased.

I'm my parents' only child but they actually trusted me very much. They saw as very advanced for my age. I was never overprotected. They let me cross the streets, walk to the bus stop alone and left home alone for the first time at age 8. Then at age 9, I was already walking home to school and vice versa; 30 minutes away.

Age 10; my friend and I took a public transportation to a different part of our city and mall... far from home and our curfew sometimes got extended to 8 pm. The only time our parents picked us up was after a movie finished late at 11:30 pm.

By age 12, it was my first sleepover at my friend's after a mixed party ended late. Then at age 16, I went to a beach in Cancún, México with friends (4 girls and 2 guys) for a whole week... it was spring break.

Though, nothing bad ever happened to me. But would you say my parents were naive?

ok but like i have a terrible habit of entering online discussions of my favourite animes lol. i was totally shocked to witness fans calling the second male lead of yubisaki to renren / a sign of affection anime, oushi, a total misogynistic ableist guy for telling the main character to not go out at night, or overly trust her love interest, this older handsome guy. and im like, hold on?

1. She's a teenage girl. 2. She's mute. 3. It's Japan we're talking about! There's a myriad of tweets on weird behaviour of Japanese men... Of course as a friend he's gonna worry? He's gonna scold her? He likes her too, although he's not particularly nice about it. How is risky behaviour empowering for mute women?
