What does it mean when a man is talking with a woman, trying to find the right word, maintaining eye contact, asking “What’s that called?” and wanting to make sure he’s making sense while speaking to her?

He seemed engaged in the conversation, kept steady eye contact, paused to search for the right words, and looked to me for help/confirmation while explaining himself.
