At 28, should I stay with my parents or move out on my own?

I’m asking as I never found a guy that loves me and wants to marry me. I feel I’ll never get marriage to be able to leave the house and move in with my husband and have babies and we buy together a home.

I work full time but don’t have my own room for 2 years now. The door is open so my parents are 24/7 watching me, can’t Masterbate, can’t do any hobbies , I can’t decorate my own room, feel depressed.

I have no savings as gas is costly to mom’s tiny senior apt. No I won’t quit my job as my job is stable like family and easy. When I was younger I quit millions of jobs and no longer will be quitting jobs over n over.

my mom refuses switch to a 2 bedroom and I pay for my own bedroom and bathroom. I don't know y she is selfish and doesn’t want me have my own room when I’m 28. She wants me forever be in a shared room no future?

studios are costly $1100 to $1900 and I only make $2700 a month if there’s overtime I do make $3200 a month but I pay $600 for car and insurance. So one check would barely cover a studio rent of $1100.

You need to learn how to manage your expenses, so you could save some money. There was a time I had very limited money to pay houe rent, electricity bills, other bills, buy groceries, buy supplements and few other expenses. I made it work. So can you.

Once you've saved enough money, move out. Because you sound very restricted in your parents house, and don't have privacy, which explains why you feel miserable. Also, I think you're capable of buying a house someday. Just keep working hard. Learn about smart investments. When it comes to buying a home/getting a place on rent... don't depend on any guy. I'm saying this because what if things won't work out? What if you're living at his place, and you guys break up? You'll feel lost and be homeless. So, be independent.

I really hope you'll somehow managed to do enough savings soon to not only get a place on rent, but also pay the rent comfortable, and take care of expenses. Wishing you the best.

Yes it’s weird as if I ask my mom for us to shift to a 2 bedroom , in the same apt complex it’s a senior apt , they have 2 bedrooms, she refuses. Like she don’t care if I want my own room.

I’m 28 I have 2 years sharing one room with her and all day the door is open, can’t even decorate the room. Feels my life is just lay in bed staring at my parents in the living room.

Hey Sugar, I know you don’t want to hear this but you may genuinely have to consider getting either a second job or a job that pays more. I completely understand why you don’t want to do that when the job you have now is stable and you enjoy aspects of it. However it does not afford you enough money to afford this great escape from your mom’s home that you’re trying to make. There are people who love their part time summer job but in reality it could never afford anything more than some spending money.


I get that you’re desperate to leave but I think it’s clouding your good judgment. I think it’s pushing you to take on a load of responsibility that you can try to plan ahead for but actually going through it will be so much different.

If you can guarantee that higher role then that would definitely help you position to move out. Have you considered a roommate? I know you were looking for a studio but you could probably save even more by splitting rent with someone.

When’s the last time you’ve looked at roommate ads online? If you ever have at all. It doesn’t have to be a friend you live with, and in most cases you and your roommate stay out of each others hair and live your separate lives. If you just don’t want a roommate then that’s fine but then you must not really be so desperate to move out. To which I’d say slow down, be patient and be smart as you plan. You need more money or a roommate.

Also, it doesn’t make sense for your mom to take on the financial burden of a two bedroom when you plan on moving out. It’s not financially the best choice to keep living with her, given how much gas and time it takes to get there, so you plan to move away no matter what.

Your mom is your mom. You may give her money for rent but at the end of the day, parents usually don’t respect their kids as adults until they move out. She treats you like a child.

Well , as per your previous question ( and your situation sounds horrible) , it all comes down to $$$$ , there are initial costs for this studio , but I do think you need to work towards that.

I moved out at 18 , when 28 I was a father and owned a house , I would have hated to have still been with my mother.

In order to move out, you're going to need more money, and in order to get more money, you're going to need a better job that pays more. Start looking. If you don't have enough education for a better job, then go back to school and get that education.

It seems it's time for some things to change. If you're contributing to the household, at least ask for your own personal space and set boundaries. Renting a room from your family is also an option. Yes, it sounds absurd, but you have few options.
