Creative Writing Challenge

I got this idea from a writing page I follow on Facebook. I'm someone who loves to write and that is always looking for a way to challenge myself with my writing. So I saw this and got excited. I wanted to share with you guys what I wrote.

I'm going to die here. They're going to find the remains of my body washed up on these rocks or worse, they won't find me at all. I wonder how long they'll look for me. Probably forever if Mom has anything to do with it. Mom. She's going to be devastated. Our last conversation didn't go so well. We both said some pretty horrible things to each other. I'd give anything to take them back. To tell her that she was right. That I never should've trusted him. And now, I'm going to pay the ultimate price for it. My life. But before I reach my demise, let me take you back to the beginning. I'm Jemi Rae Carter, and this is my story.

That's my prompt. I actually entered it in a little contest. Hopefully it's intriguing enough. What do you guys think? Would you be interested in this book? You guys can feel free to write your own little story starter as well!

She slipped, hands clambering for purchase on the smooth stone. Catching her balance, and stopping her slide back down, she continued on her climb. The rough bag made from vines woven messily together, swayed from the grip her teeth held. Keeping her hands free to balance her as she crossed the stones.

A small chirp emitted from he bag, making her stop. She worried her stumble had hurt the chick. Had damaged it in some way to make her long trip worthless. A waste of daylight, a waste of energy. She opened the bag, kneeling on the first flat stone she found and gazed upon the golden creature waving it's tiny wings at her, and shaking it's fluffy head. Chirps escaping it's beak incessantly. It was frightened, but otherwise unharmed.

She breathed a sigh of relief and tied the bag closed again. Putting the strap back in her mouth she continued on her way, watching where she placed her bare feet even closer. Wary of slipping, knowing to fall now, so close to her destination would be a cruelty she could not bear.

Finally she hit dirt. Her toes sinking into the damp earth, brushing over coarse grasses that seemed to welcome her. The cave was only a few steps away and she smiled. Allowing herself to lose focus for that split second of relief.

The fire had died down to glowing coals as she walked into her den. She took a few sticks from the collection by her grass bed and stirred the coals, sparking them up again. The chick in its bag was placed down on the dirt floor beside her, a safe distance from the now growing flames. She found the sticks she'd woven together with more vines, creating a makeshift pen, and placed the chick in it. It would grow, she hoped, and give her the company she needed and craved. It would give her its eggs, a luxury she had not had before.

She smiled, imagining the company a bird could give. She was lucky to have spotted the smoke rising in the distance, signalling the return of the strange people who wore skins and spoke in strange tongues. She knew their travels through her land often brought with them strange and exotic creatures. Some of which she was beginning to recognise and know to keep away from. Like the cats with no grace the strange people used to hunt for them. Taking her prey without permission, but knowing they could. She couldn't do anything about it. Instead, she took their food in return. Their food and their smaller, less dangerous creatures.

Like the chick, chirping hungrily beside her.

-Okay, so how do I extend this selfie stick again? Oh, wait, got it. Smile guys.

I'm watching them and I really like watching them before I dine because they always look fine they always look fine before they realise they are mine they realise they are mine and not divine not divine just mortal I am that portal leading nowhere and I don't care and they understand and look scared...

-I like the plants here, they're beautiful, look at this one, its stem extends for metres and it's like it joins up with this other stem... Honestly, I've never seen anything like...
-Okay let's go, let's go, let's go, we still have a little left to go, but you know trekking by now, we keep a nice, constant pace and we'll make great time...

I like it when they move over my roots. I like it, it tickles. I like the way I can track their movements across my body and drift off for a while and then come to and oh, there they are, they have moved quite some distance since I dozed off. I like tracking them on my map.

But I don't take crap I don't take crap I don't take crap and sometimes they do litter and it's bothersome and makes me a bit bitter because I don't take crap.

Mr. Kaita awoke, the hot humid air only being stirred slightly by the fan spinning above him; his cot screamed as he pushed his tired body up to a sitting position. He glanced around the room, checking his surroundings with textbook-like precision and mental note taking; he couldn't help it. He grunted as he pushed himself up and walked across the hardened dirt floor towards the cracking porcelain sink in the corner of his small hut. He grabbed hold of a wet towel and wiped his face. With the dirt and grim that was pulled off his skin also came the tiredness and slowness that accompanied his age.
Mr. Kaita, dressed and pushed aside the corrugated steel door that sealed off his bamboo and aluminium home. Instantly he was met with the heat and humidity that was another day amongst the islands. He slowly walked across a small plateau and down into a trench, the dirt now breaking through its aging walls; mother nature coming to reclaim what was once its own.
It only took but a moment before he was scanning the horizon and looking down the massive gorges that descended into fog below him. He looked for anything, a car, a deer, a tent, a man in the fog and steam that shrouded the countless valleys and gorges surrounding his lone pinnacle in mystery. Mr. Kaita remembered the last time he had seen someone with vivid imagery. He remembered how he made his way up the valley, how he dressed like a civilian, how he carried no gun. He remembered how he had tried to contact Davao for information, but met only with silence. He remembered how the sound of his gun shattered the silence of the valley, he remembered how the bullet painted the cliff in crimson.
Mr. Kiata saw nothing that day, he figured he would see the same the next day and the next. However, when he saw his glorious flag sailing above the jungle he knew why he had been posted there, he remembered why he had joined and he was happy with the choice he had made. Although the radio had long since been silent, the only sound reporting some distant island called Cuba. He knew that they would one day come for him. He thought of that that day, the day they would win the war, the day he would be a hero.

- Side note-
Incase you haven't figured it out by now, Mr. Kaita is a Japanese solider stationed in the Philippines. You see the second world war ended so quickly that many Japanese soldiers didn't know about it. Soldiers were emerging from the jungle, still shooting, even into the late 80's i believe.

I was thinking about starting a weekly one. With different scenarios and such.

The first thing I noticed on the island was the mist. It was damp on the skin, and obscured the eye like smoke; this mist was almost... alive. It was shifting and swirling and seeping through my torn black shirt. Strangely, the further I walked inland, away from the rocky beach I washed up on, the lighter the mist seemed. As I made my way across sharp rocks and trickling streams, the mist almost disappeared, becoming a near imperceptible chill on the skin. Strangest of all, when I looked back to the shoreline, the mist obscured nothing. I could still see the boat I woke up in, that slowly drifted towards this island shrouded in fog; yet the mountains ahead of me had also become clear, thrown into sharp relief against the pale white sky. Reason told me that this should not have been possible. Fog obscures equally. But this fog wasn't reasonable; it was almost acting like a one way glass to the outside world? Like the mirrors in interrogation rooms. No sooner had this crossed my mind, than I suddenly realised the absurdity of this musing. Had I ever been in an interrogation room? Could I remember where I had been before I woke up in the boat? Where was I?

Who was I?

As if angered by my questions, that was when the ground began to shake.

The two star cross lovers were off to a pretty good start during their honeymoon. The young couple Jack and Ally were so adventurous and and didn't have a care in the world! And why should they as long as they were with one another? At lesst up until trouble came their way.

"My beloved someone's going to come and help us don't give up hope."

"Darling we've been here all day and my hand is beginning to slip. I just don't have the strength to hold on to the ledge much longer, and let's face it neither do you."

"Jack we made a promise to be there for one another. In good times and in bad!"

"And I also promised to love and to provide for you. To always put you first and to never let harm come to you!"

At that moment Jack took off his ring and let it fall. During this moment words were not said it was so silent you could literally hear the drop ring when it once it hit the river.

"Sweetie, honey, Jack. Why on earth did you do that?" Ally began to get hysterical.
"Why did you drop your wring!"

"Goodbye, my love." As Back begun to gnaw at his the string that was keeping the two connected.

But I'm getting ahead of myself let's go back to the begining... 😊

it's interesting! I like how it lures people by promises of great adventure.

When I looked at the picture, I paused to imagine my own story. I thought about a couple that lives there, in the cave in the left side where the light is. They left from civilisation together, because they want to be isolated. There is something special about them, they're not quite human.

I think that's a cool starter! My tip would be to be more vague. You tell too much information in one go which will give you less to write about later. You could've just kept it at "our last conversation didn't go well". That would keep a reader interested, you want to know how the conversation went, which you'd later describe after the reader has read it all.
You're a good writer. I wish I could write. :( Maybe you should start a writing challenge here, I'd definitely give it a go.
