Joe Biden, The nicest man in America

I was watching Joe Biden talk about the loss of his son on Stephen Colbert and it was so inspirational I felt I had to send him some kudos. He is probably known to most for his embarrassing gafs during public speaking which is a shame.

Biden served in the Senate from 1972-2009 in a key role advocating on social issues and opposed the Gulf War. Here is a blurb from his wiki page about some of the work he did during his time in the Senate:

"Biden was a long-time member and former chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee. He opposed the Gulf War in 1991, but advocated U.S. and NATO intervention in the Bosnian War in 1994 and 1995. Biden voted in favor of the resolution authorizing the Iraq War in 2002, but opposed the surge of U.S. troops in 2007. He has also served as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, dealing with issues related to drug policy, crime prevention, and civil liberties, and led the legislative efforts for creation of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, and the Violence Against Women Act. He chaired the Judiciary Committee during the contentious U.S. Supreme Court nominations of Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas."

Biden, who is a practicing Roman Catholic, lost his son in May to brain cancer. This is not the first tragedy the Biden family has endured. To hear him speak about how he deals with loss is nothing short of inspring. Anyone who has been through a similar event can certainly appreciate the value of his words.

The folks on Capitol Hill certainly aren't too popular these days but I'm sure they would be if we had more like Joe. Thanks Joe!

Even though I'm a moderate Republican, I do like Joe Biden. His first wife
was killed in an auto accident and the sudden loss of his son. You're just
not supposed to outlive your children. He is a devout Irish Catholic and
seeing him speak somewhere on Ash Wednesday and he still had ashes imposed
on his forehead. He's a complete teetotaler. Says that alcohol makes people do
stupid things, which it can and does. Yes he does stick his foot in his mouth and has
embarrassed himself and the various politicians. he is a decent, moral God loving
man. I don't agree with a lot of his politics, but as a human being, he is one of the finest I've ever seen

Thanks for the response. Yes I couldn't agree more. The ashes thing is a very good example. He wasn't doing it for any gain and he didn't wipe them off at the risk of controversy. With Joe he is who he is and who he is is a fine man.

I like to think he represents the old guard when politicians weren't afraid to put common sense first and cross the aisle. But putting politics aside he is just a man that I think should inspire is all to be better.

He's done with politics, he's led an exemplary life, and honestly just deserves a little bit of recognition for that. He is a real role model and someone to be looked up to in a society void of such things these days.

I'll add to that that he's just a man. I'm paying respect to him as a man, not a politician. I don't respect Pope Francis because he is the Pope, nor does the world. We respect him because of what he is doing with it. Joe is the VP but he isn't running again for anything else. I'm not padding a campaign, I'm just saying in the words of AC/DC, "We solute you".

I love VP Biden, I also saw him on TV with Colbert and was just so very impressed with how real and kind he comes off. I would have voted for him last time if he won the nomination. All politicians "claim" to be religious but I really believe that he is a true man of faith and keeps his head below the clouds with the rest of the common folks unlike many in positions of power these days.

I can't comment on him having known very little about him as a person. I know a little more about Michelle Obama and Obama himself.

Joe Biden is weak on immigration. Let's not forget he went to the University of Delaware and graduated in the bottom quartile of this class. This man is not qualified to be vice president, let alone president.

Just because someone wasn't at the top of their class in university doesn't mean they can't be amazing on the job! I'm very much the opposite. I did really well in school, but suck at work. It's just a hurdle a person has to overcome. He's been out of school for some time, his experiences along the way will also help him in his future endeavours.
