    fem·i·nism.

    [ˈfeməˌnizəm]

    NOUN

    1. the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men.
    -----Oxford Dictionary------

(This has nothing to do with improving male rights. Its for women & women only)

    e·gal·i·tar·i·an·ism.

    [ēˌɡaləˈterēəˌnizəm]

    NOUN

    1. the doctrine that all people are equal and deserve equal rights and opportunities.
    ----Oxford Dictionary----

(THIS is what feminism is claiming to be.)

One is strictly for females, the other is for everyone.

    Argument ended.

    Have nice day :)

Feminism though sympathetic to the struggle of some men is mainly an ideology/organization etc, meant to help women.

If this was not the case, feminist would lobby for equal laws for men as well as women including constructing and facilitating battered men's shelters and things of the like for men as well.

This is not the case, the movement, is ran by women for women, just like the NAACP is ran by black people FOR black people.

What you and many other feminist are describing is not feminism at all, it's egalitarianism (A whole different word with a whole different meaning.)

Women are renouncing feminism because they have finally figured that out.

But do you think there is anything wrong with that? I realise that maybe my experiences with a group of feminists has actively tried to do something for men as well and that has warped my thoughts. I guess I identify as both but I think a movement to help just women is okay as well, because in some countries in the world they get treated like garbage and do need help.

And this would be great, if that's what the movement focused on.

However, most modern feminist, Western Feminist to be exact, don't focus on these issue's at all, they focus more on the ''Wage Gap" that women are ''Suffering from" and rather or not men should be allowed custody of there children.

Just a little while ago, Anita Sarkeesian (World renowned feminist and creator of ''Tropes Vs Women"---also, ''Women of the year in time magazine" went to the United Nations, (Yes, that United Nations) to ask them to censor the internet & google so that men couldn't ''Pick on her" for spouting bullshit about video games.

All this whilst there are women in Afghanistan who can't go to school or they will be killed, or India with its gendercide is taking place.

These reasons are why Feminism in the west is dead, because it's not about real issues anymore its about griping bordering Female superiority in certain aspects of life.

Feminism began in the west as a very needed, very reasonable organization of women and girls who wished only to stand side by side with the men they looked after and share in the liberties the western world promised.

However like many groups that begin with good intention, radicals and socialist took what stated as a beautiful thing and transformed it into some kind of wicked socialist movement.

Now instead of equality, it preaches superiority and "Pride" not the good kind of pride, but the kind of pride that Hitler wanted Germans to feel. Like they are somehow more special, or more important than others.

This quazi-nationalism is where you get your term ''Feminzai" from, because its nare do well's thinking they are in the right when in reality they couldn't be more wrong.

Whenever special laws make it possible for a man to loose custody of his children, because of ''Mother maternity rights" THAT is not equality. That's bullshit.

"- They can choose whether or not to go to war"

Incorrect. Richard M. Nixon abolished the military draft and created the volunteer army with a stroke of his pen in January, 1973. Vietnam created these circumstances; feminism had nothing to do with this.

"- Ability to work in traditionally female dominated jobs. (eg. nursing, teaching)"

Men already had that right, but there are fewer men than ever in these professions, so even if feminism tried to do this, it failed.

"- Allowed men to have unpaid leave in their jobs."

Men were already allowed to have unpaid leave. It's called a "sabbatical," and it's an old concept.

God, can we all just shutup about feminism already?

    Who cares?

Women have jobs and are doctors as well as nurses these days. A female doctor has now felt my balls and asked me to cough while looking at my arse hole during a physical examination. Surely that's enough.

Women are equal and have the same opportunities in the workforce now, so stop talking about it.

The only place it's still relevant is in backward countries which are ruled by outdated religious and cultural practices.

If feminism means equality, why did they name that term on one gender?

If women want equality why do feminists demand equality only in those cases which BENEFITS them. No feminist demands standing in the same queue as men. No feminist demands equal jail time for women, (it is known that women get lesser jail time than men in general for the same crime) , no woman demands clubbing of the sports teams for men and women and making only one team, and the positions should be reserved on the basis of skill.

Narrow-minded, Unenlightened , Self-Interest does not impress me.

Malala Yousafzai is the only feminist I know that actually does what feminism claims they as a whole do. Talk is cheap and actions speak louder than words and excluding her, what feminism says it is and says it does is radically different from what it actually does. Most (not all) people are for equal rights but the whole argument now seems to just be the semantics behind the letters that are put together that spell the word "feminism." I personally don't give a shit what someone calls themselves because in the grand scheme of things whatever stupid self imposed title someone gives themselves or forces on others (that whole, if you believe in equality you're a feminist whether you like it or not thing) does not actually matter. What actual action you do is the only thing that matters. So someone can call themselves a feminist, egalitarian, MRA or whatever but it doesn't mean jack shit to me.

When I actually see women **doing** something about gender equality and men's problems rather than just talking about it and win support with fluffy "we love everyone" speech, maybe *then* I'll be sympathetic.

But all I hear is talk. Until I see action, STFU.

I feel the same. I've done a few things in the past. I wrote a research paper into masculinity and the negative effects of male stereotyping and am a part of a group that raises awareness of male rape and sexual assault victims.

It's hard as a survivor of female instigated rape to read articles and documents about rape, your source in no place addresses the issue you site. It blames in many places rape on "the patriarchy" which is a feminist construct, and never once mentions that the denial of female rapists as a staple of feminism. Feminism is not now, nor has it ever been aboit equality, it uses the term as a catch phrase while pointing out many of the issues that it itself has created.

the reason men don't want anything to do with it is because feminism need to fix itself first.

Also, remember that people define a movement by what they DO and ARE, not by the definitions of what they WERE. And therefore a lot of peopel will label several parts of the modern feminist movement as missandrist.

Yes, feminism did a lot of good things, but that doesn't excuse shit now. That's like saying anschluss was okay because hitler saved the german economy after ww1.

The Bible has some of the best equality of sexes in the history of anything. Yes, men did more stuff in there, but that isn't the point. Apart from headship doctrine, where do you see laws written so it only works one way?

Granted, some Old Testament laws can be misconstrued as favoring men. However, there's a difference between recognizing cultural realities of the time and compensating for them, and promoting bad cultural realities.

By nature men and women are different so there can not be a true equality in gender. Men are good in some aspects and women are good in some aspects and both are incomplete without another. So we need to embrace the differences and make abetter future.

@CavScoutTrooper Equal as in the value of humans. Both men and women should be valued the same. But we are not necessarily "the same" when it comes to our strengths and weaknesses because we are slightly biologically different.

Feminism is a cruel hoax, funded by the Rockefellers to break up marriage and family. If you believe in equality then you're an equalist, not a feminist. Feminism only focuses on supporting women, not men. Since when have feminists protested outside family courts demanding equal rights for fathers? NEVER! Feminism is a cult that promotes lies, hypocrisy, double standards, bigotry, sexism, stupidity. Feminism can go to hell.

I don't know where you live, but in the majority of the world men still get forcibly drafted and women do not. But feminism seems more content to whine about the lack of women in STEM (even though they themselves choose not to go into STEM).

Feminism is not about equality. Egalitarianism is.

The etymology of the word "feminism" is so ubiquitously known that to try and redefine it as "equality" would be frustrating to those who advocate for logic. Feminism as you've defined it is great but the knee-jerk inference to the name demonstrates the flaw in using that term for an egalitarian concept.

To answer your first question: Those people are nuts, that's why.

That dismissal is too easy. I could walk in a women study class now and get that unanimous reaction.

And my other issue. What was the name of that group? You seem to be attributing a lot of unwarranted credit to feminism. Not everyone charity and good action is feminist. That tendency is as bad as seeing patriarchy everywhere. Look up Erin Pizzey.

But I guess it's basic human nature. Internalize praise and externalize blame.

The one I was in didn't have a name, it was more of a march/walk and community of people working together to tackle a heap of issues in my area.
As for my dismissal, I can't speak for anyone but myself, you would not get that reaction from me. I think people who would react badly are nuts, simple as that. I know not every good action was because of feminism, I'm not stupid.
