Why Protest Movements and SJWs are Detrimental to Society

Panay

What would happen if all Protest movements and social justice groups just stopped all activities?

No more feminist speeches, no more LGBTQ parades, no more BLM marches, no more MRA protests. All of that just stopping.

Because personally I think it would be the best thing that could happen to any of those movements. There'd be less anger directed towards movements with no public face; and people who oppose such groups would be less likely to be vocal about their opinions.

The thing is, these groups aren't helping. All they're doing is attracting people who already share their beliefs, they're not really converting anyone.

I doubt everyone would suddenly come out as racists or sexists or homophobes just because there's no one in the street waving a sign telling them not to.

There'd be no more people feeling sidelined by another movement. No one made to feel like some sort of oppressor when they just want to live their life.

No one lumped into a group of people as privileged, or made out to be predatory just because they share a random trait like sex or skin colour with someone who is.

Because the issue with these movements is that, while they try so hard to rid the world of social injustice and bring about equality, all they seem to do is draw more and more lines in the sand- find more and more difference and issues and problems which just lead to more segregation.

The law, at least in western countries, and as far as I'm aware, is pretty fair. There aren't any glaring laws which enact discrimination as far as I know, and most of the prejudice in society is down to individuals who aren't just going to change because you scream at them or walk down the street with a banner.

What we need is for people to just calm down. Yes, there are problems in society- yes, there is inequality-and yes, there are individuals who fuck up everything for the rest of us.

But on the whole, in our lovely western countries where we have so much, things aren't so bad. We all have shit to deal with, why do we need to argue about exactly who has it worst?

Are people just desperate for sympathy? Will it make people happy if someone rubs their back and says 'yes, getting kicked in the balls is worse than period pain' or 'you're right- people do find fat people less attractive'

Because ultimately it's impossible to tell who's issues are worst. The only issues any of us actually experience fully are our own, and while there maybe certain problems faced by entire groups of people, they are so complex, and experienced on so many different levels by different people that you just can't decide what's worst. And on top of that people face a huge number of issues on an individual basis.

So when a black woman has never personally experienced racism but was accused of rape, does BLM help her?

And when the white guy is homeless and alone, does he need to check his privilege?

And when the man and woman and the man are paid the same, are they just lucky that their employee is in the minority that isn't sexist?

What if fat blue eyed transgender is struggling in exams? Because then it doesn't matter that they're transgender or blue eyes or fat. They have a problem, same as the rest of us, and who gives a fuck if it's more or less major than someone else's

I suppose my main points are these:

-We don't need a whole movement every time there's an issue in our lives.

-We need to stop comparing our problems to everyone else's like it's some sort of competition. Especially when it comes to comparing an entire collection of people to each other, because all our issues are unique

-And really, how much of a difference are these modern western movements actually making? Because it seems to me like they're only aggravating the situation by provoking conflict

Fuck all this shit. I'm a person, and I have problems. I like people, and I respect that they have problems too.

Now I'm going to bed.
