Killed 7 In Self-Defence, Gets Death Penalty

Aileen Wuornos had a fucked up childhood. Her dad, a deranged pedophile, was serving time in jail around her birth. Later, her mother would abandon Aileen and her brother—unwanted products of two immature teens. They were subsequently adopted by their maternal grandparents. Unfortunately, it was not the end for Aileen as she would still be exposed to sexual abuse from a very young age.

The culprit? Her alcoholic grandfather.

Furthermore, she was impregnated at 14 by a friend of the sickening monster who abused her trust.

After her grandfather kicked her out when she was just a teen, Aileen found herself hitchhiking and engaging in sexual activities to make a living. This would eventually lead to an unexpected turn of events which would change her life forever.

Over the span of just 1 year, she had shot seven middle-aged men along the highways of Florida—all of which she claimed tried to beat and rape her. A hooker turned serial killer, the first man Aileen killed was Richard Mallory who was a convicted sex offender.

Fast forward to the age of 46, Aileen Wuornos was put to death via lethal injection in 2002.

I think death penalty is wrong anyway - both because of nobody should have the authority to decide who has the right to live and who hasn't, the laws have to set a good example and because of human beings are flawed, something that can cause wrong sentences. So in general speaking I'm against death penalties regardless if the person is guilty or not. A guilty person in prison can also think over what they've done and when someone are death they won't experience prison as much as someone who's alive longer.

I think this woman should get some mental help. Since she was dangerous she shouldn't be allowed in the society again and should rather be in a mental hospital or a prison, but also getting the therapy she needed. If she had a traumatic childhood talking about it would help her, making her life easier for herself and perhaps making her lesser aggressive. I do believe a humane rehabilitation program like the Scandinavian countries have would be a good idea. Even if she were never released from prison it would still be a nice idea since it would be good for both her own and the prison guard's safety.

It's hard for me to believe she could kill seven people in self-defense. But if she had mental health issues seeing the reality would be hard or nearly impossible for her, so it may be a possibility she had some false scenarios in her heads making her believe it was self-defense when it wasn't necessary it. I don't know the case well enough to know it. Anyway, I don't think mental illness or a bad childhood is an excuse for committing crimes although it may be an explanation on it. Anders Behring Breivik, a terrorist killed 77 people and he had a bad childhood too. What he did was still gruesome and not something you can defend. I don't think killing is justifiable just because of a difficult life.

"Killing in self defence" is one thing. But killing 7 people? Come on that's not self defence anymore. If she really had a black out and had to use excesive violence to defend herself she would have gone to the police/called an ambulance or w. e. 'cause she would have handled out of self defence.

On top of that, if he tried to rape and/or beat her up you Always have to take into account several steps before you can use excessive violance and a black out as an excuse to kill someone.

Could she have escaped? Then she should have, if not she could have knocked him out. If that wasn't an option she probably used such violence/weapons that it's excessive to the situation. Only if she had a black out she could be justified for this. But as I said, killing 7 people? And justify it as self defence?

Not in my book.

I personally don't believe in anyone receiving the death penalty, no matter how horrible the crime they commit is.

With that being said, her self-defense claims are extremely convenient in her case. My theory is that because of her horrible childhood and the environment she grew up in, she began to have a hatred for men - especially those who she had sexual encounters with.

Being kicked out and on the streets, this was probably the easiest job for her to get and being in those situations with older men probably reminded her of the sexual trauma she experienced as a child.

So I don't think she committed these crimes in self-defense but I completely disagree with her sentence. One - because I disagree with it in all cases anyway, but even if I didn't, I think that her childhood may warrant an imperfect self-defense claim in her case. Or it may just be evidence enough that she was psychologically damaged and perhaps insane at the time of the murders.

Her childhood was definitely one huge factor that led to her demise. Also, she says in the video, "You sabotaged my ass, society" and "I saved a lot of people's butts from getting hurt, raped and killed too". Help was what Aileen needed. She also mentions she had lack of fair 'trials' and 'investigations'.

Death penalty was just not for her. I know she didn't need to murder them but she was so psychologically damaged. Subjecting her to death penalty is ridiculous in her case such that you're just killing another victim who needed help. Life without parole would have been suitable.

You physically cannot be sentenced to death on self defense killings. Judges don't have that authority.

If she was sentenced to death then the evidence in the trial court (more reliable than any journalistic article that will make their own interpretation of what happened) must have shown it was done out of murder and she wasn't doing it to defend herself.

The justice system is flawed but it is not flawed in that sense that a judge can just order someone to death willy nilly. There are certain restrictions.

That's why the cop from Arizona got away recently with shooting Daniel Shaver 5 times despite that fact that he was unarmed and likely innocent. That's why Aileen got caught red handed only after 7 Men already had been killed, and from just the first one they couldn't capture her. The justice system is beyond flawed.

Yes but they weren't found those things in court. If this woman was actually found to have killed those men in self defense the judge does not have the power to give the death penalty.

It works the other way too. There was a teacher sex scandal where a hot teacher had sex with a 16 year old boy and the judge made sexist remarks thinking that there was no harm done but because she was found fully guilty of the crime at minimum she had to serve 1 year in prison even though he didn't want her to serve any time. There's certain limitations.

Low and behold, in a world where no gives a damn about people with mental illness or serious mental issues, those who have them go completely unnoticed until they just blow up and start killing people. Then we see them as monsters, instead of people in need of help. We've all been turning a blind eye to the mentally ill for decades now, then we act all shocked when the go on a killing spree. I've read about Aileen Wuornos, the hooker serial-killer years ago and also saw the movie Monster. It's understandable she needed counseling early on during her teen years and had a terrible childhood but that doesn't give anyone the rights to go on a kiling spree.
I'm not one for death penalty. I'd rather see a killer get given life-sentence.
I don't really believe she killed all those 7 men in 7 different circumstances in self-defense. If I'm not mistaken, she admitted to not killing one in self-defense but rather out of hatred and anger.
In the movie, there was a man pleading for his life, telling her not to pull the trigger but she still did it. Preparing yourself with a gun, deceiving people (the men that were only there to pay for sex) with the purpose of robbing and killing them is premediated murder.

As say it's one thing to kill someone in self-defense and report it afterwards but 7 men in self-defense? I'm not buying it. Not believable.

Almost every killer in the world has attempted to play victim when facing the reprocussions of their heinous crimes. It's not even nessisarily "playing", they have actually convinced themselves that they are a victim of society and they do this naturally to rationalize their reasoning as to why they did it. You don't kill 7 different people in 7 different scenarios out of self defense.
