There's no denying that some black people are racist. How widespread are those derogatory names for white French people? Do the majority of them even know about these names for them? If they do just imagine being called those name for hundreds of years then see an ad with white children wearing of those derogatory names for the white French on it. I bet many of those white French people would find it offensive.

@dev765 Actually they do. There was something like that in miss France election, when the newly elected Miss France was called racist because she refered at one "black" miss France as one with a "lioness mane", talking about her hair.
Things like that are offensive if you consider them to be. And as long as you consider it offensive, all you'll do is making people uninterested in the real racism, wherever it comes from, as in the story Peter and the Wolf. Cry about racism for no reason, and when a real case of racism appear, no one will care.

Why would a white or Asian kid wearing a monkey shirt cause backlash. The reason why this ad is causing backlash is because there is a long deep history of referring to black people as monkeys. The term monkey was used as a way to dehumanize black people by insinuating that they were closer to monkeys/apes then they were humans/Europeans. Hell, when Human Zoos were legal and rampant in America and Europe, Black people were always put in the exhibit that housed the monkeys.

White and Asian people were never historically insulted with the term monkey, so of course nobody would bat an eye.

No. History provides answers for why the present is the way it is. Just because something is in the past doesn't suddenly make it irrelevant. If you go to the doctors complaining about pains, then your doctor is going to ask you questions relating to the past, such when did the pain start? Do you have a history of this type of pain? etc, etc. The past is just as important as the present since the past provide explanations behind why the present is the way it is.

For example, if this H+M company knew anything about history then they could have saved themselves from this awful PR nightmare where they became public enemy #1 for about a day.

The first because they used slavery at a bigger scale, more violently and for a longer time than whites.
And the second because those who brought slaves to white people were other black people, and they also praticed slavery between them.

But it seems that accusing white people to be evil is more rewarding. Even if white people were the first to abolish slavery, and even when it was still used, there was many country who promulgated a code against bad treatements on slaves, and some even forced the master to pay them in nature.
So yeah, history isn't exactly as those who are whining are pretending it was. As for segregation and apartheid, the first is now asked by black people, banning whites from some places or even jobs, and the second is used against white people in south africa, by black people.
So, yeah, history.

@Starrk You're talking about history to justify that people whine about racism. I show you that history isn't that simple and that black people constantly complaining to and about white people because they apparently are the devil on earth is bullshit.
They complain about slavery? They did it too, and others did it too but they don't complain to them, they side with them.
They complain about segregation, while their plans is to actually make it happen again, but this time for their own benefit.
They complain about racism while seeing racism everywhere even where it doesn't exist, and being racists themselves. Just look at BLM to see who is really racist.

See the problem now? On top of that, the kid on that photo doesn't care, his mom even stated she didn't care and didn't see any racism in it. So, who's complaining? People who aren't concerned by it.
And why are they complaining? Because using the race card is a powerful tool to get some privileges, power, and of course, money.
