Racial Divide in America

All of this racial divide in America is super disgusting. We need to stop the hate and learn to love one another. If you're going to dislike someone let it be for their actions and not on the basis of skin color.

Break the Stereotypes

Racism is so stupid, hating someone on the basis of skin color, is BS. If you choose to be a racists you need re-evaluate yourself and life. No one person is the same, not all black people like chicken, and not all white people articulate their words.

Avoiding Police Brutality

I understand our justice system is not perfect, and that police officers may not always act justifiably. That is why we need to take the proper actions to defer unjust acts. OBEY THE FREAKING LAW! Police brutality is out of hand, but it isn't something that pertains to one certain race. It makes it a lot easier for a policeman to come after you if you're doing something wrong regardless of race.

People who deny racism exists are fooling themselves, take a look at the NEWS! To me, it is sad as well as ridiculous. I am a black woman, and I see everyone as equals. We aren't all the same, but we all deserve the same treatment as well as respect, regardless of color.

i think the part about police brutality is a bit short sighted. yes not committing crimes is the best way to avoid police brutality but that doesn't address cops abusing their power. just because someone breaks a law doesn't mean a person has therefore opened themselves up to being beaten or worse.

they don't appear afraid to act. it in these most recent cases nothing has come back to them. if they act responsibly like most the cops do then nothing will come back on them. and if it does, and they are truly innocent, then that is the fault of the system. but it should excuse using excessive force on non-violent offenders. it shouldn't excuse the death of civilians. it shouldn't excuse the violation of rights they are duty bound to protect and serve

No of course not! Loss of life should be avoided. But here's the thing these cops haven't got away with it scot free. They might of been cleared legally but these guys have their names and photos everywhere, half the country hates them. What kind of life can you have when every other person who recognizes you hates you. That's more so what I mean than legally

but families who've lost sons, daughters, fathers and mothers can't seek any salvation in the fact that the police officer may be seen in a negative light in public. those cops (or any perpetrator cop or not) who abuse their authority still have life, they can find a place to start anew (if they are the victims of public scorn), they still have their family and loved ones. the only thing they lost is the result of their own error and poor judgment and thus it is something they deserved to lose. We don't weep when I priest loses his job because he raped children, or shed a tear because the public may see him in a negative way. We say that's just a small, tiny, microscopic bit of justice for the heinous acts they committed

No but that's cimplrtely different, the priests weren't defending themselves by raping the children. They committed the crime, not the children. I'm saying we can't use these Incidences where someone did in fact commit a crime to combat racism. Because it's not racism, it's a cop doing his job. Like you said though, it shouldn't of resulted in death. But really if you look at it, put yourself in the place of the cop, if you confronted a young adult, your size or bigger and he started attacking you, would you just let him beat you up and take your gun? You couldn't. That's the part of the job that sucks the worst, when a cop arrives at a house they do so knowing they aren't wanted there. As for in NY, what was the cop suppose to do? The guy said, I'm not gonna do what you want, please leave me alone. Should he of just left him? If Eric Garner had listened he'd probably be alive today. It's not the cops fault he didn't or that he's such a big guy and wouldn't let himself be cuffed.

the cops job is to serve and protect. in the case of eric garner who did that cop serve? who did that cop protect? who was in need of service and who was in need of protection? couldn't the cop done their job just as effectively without killing an unarmed non-violent suspect?

Well all of the cops I know say that if someone resists arrests, even just verbally you must bring them in. Also how was he not violent? He tried to run and then when they tried to keep him from running fought him.
If you want to know what it's really like to be a cop you can go down to your local department and sign up to do a week long ride along. Then you can really see why the cops have to act the way they do. It's a violent escalation. The cop says I need to search you, the suspect says no, the cop asks again, the suspect says no, the cop says then I need to arrest you, the suspect tries to run. What are the polices other options? Should they if said "oh he does want to be arrested, I won't try and cuff him"
If he just listened and got searched it would be done. He may not of been selling cigs, but he became a criminal when he resisted arrest

Ananchor you clearly haven't watched the video (www.theguardian.com/.../i-cant-breathe-eric-garner-chokehold-death-video) he clearly doesn't run anywhere. you're talking about scenarios that aren't relevant to the issue at hand. people running? these perps didn't run. Eric Garner didn't raise a hand in violence. He resisted in the sense that he denied that he was doing anything wrong and in that case sure a cop can arrest but in Garner's case he wasn't arrested. He was put in a state determined illegal chokehold and killed.

I don't need to go on ride alongs with cops. I have friends who are cops both local and state; city and rural. I have friends who work as FBI, secret service and in CIA.

If a cop can't arrest or subdue an unharmed non-violent suspect without murdering them they shouldn't be doing their job

I think something that would help is more white Americans understanding what white privilege means.

It DOESN'T mean white people haven't had to struggle in life, haven't earned their places in society, don't work hard, or have had the world served to them on a silver platter. What it DOES mean is that people like me who are white will by and large grow up without ever having to wrestle with the issues of racial identity or racial inequality that tens of millions of non-white Americans face every day and have faced in even worse situations for centuries. Overt racism and overt segregation may be looked down upon, but that does not mean white Americans and non-white Americans start their lives with completely equal opportunities today.

We also really need to distance ourselves from the "Us vs. Them" mentality. Racial inequality does not mean one race is oppressing another or people of one race all think and act alike and are at war with another race of people who also all act and think alike.

We should judge people by the decisions they make, not the stereotypes we fit them into.

Gotta agree that racism is indeed highest form of stupidity. However, people should learn that it exists in all ways. From what I see here in the UK mostly whites are blamed for any case of racism, yet there are plenty of non-whites who are quite racist. Not only towards whites, but to other ethnicities (that's the correct word?) as well.
When talking about racial equality, one shouldn't act like a fucking feminist scum (that I believe should be executed) that are all about "equality" as long as it benefits them, regardless if it actually harms others.

Additionally, I believe every ethnicity has some sort of a feeling like "belonging to the tribe". So it's quite understandable if people want to live in the area with representatives of their own ethnicity. If "diversity" is forced upon people, it WILL cause unrest. I believe this is widely ignored by politicians that have little to no understanding (or they do and actually are doing this willingly?) that different cultures do not actually mix that well, just like food ingredients: milk and pickles are good and delicious, but for the sake of your stomach don't eat them together at the same time.
My personal example: I pretty much haven't seen anyone who's non-white until I temporarily moved to the UK to study for next 3 years. I don't have any problems communicating with non-white guys and girls (as long as they're not religious) and I even became good friends with one guy from Nigeria, however, it doesn't means I would agree to let a lot of other ethnicities into my town back home. See my point?

In overall: racism itself is quite stupid, however, one shouldn't be forced to live side-by-side with other ethnicities just to prove he's not racist. That's not how it works.

The jokes are nothing. The real hatred and violence won't end until everyone's heart is truly transformed in the Gospel. Since there's little chance of that happening in America today, the closest consolation prize is to get rid of all the demagogues and politicians that are deliberately stoking the flames of that hatred.

Every time I see a "black lives matter" sign being held by arsonist blacks who recently aborted their own children, who then mow down white and Asian family homes in a protest gone ape wild, I realize that what they mean by that sign is "black criminal Socialist lives matter, and nobody else's."

This hypocrisy keeps racism alive, and the Socialist Party USA is helping stoke those flames. In fact, it hired goons to make more trouble in Ferguson than what was already there. And worse, CAIR (Hamas) was on the scene, trying to exploit the tragedy further to bring about a Muslim insurgency, since bloody jihad never takes a vacation.

As for Barry? He's living it up. Creating an American version of the "Arab Spring." It isn't whites who have the most reason to fear, but Coptics. Even before Ferguson, they were disproportionate targets of violence and murder in America and in their old countries. Coptic genocide appears to be the #1 priority of this regime, with white genocide being somewhere around the #5 priority.

I think racism is the absence of Americanism. People want to think they can make up their own form of "culture" and expect everyone to just accept it as a given fact.

Then the first time someone makes a joke about it they're no longer a comedian they're a racist. I've worked professionally in comedy and I've worked in underground hip hop rap production. I've seen the difference first hand.

Racism is a myth because people want to say everyone else is racist but I refuse to be like everyone else.

Americanism is different. Americanism isn't white, it's not black. It's what we had in the 60's when schools were desegregated. Girls and boys dressed alike, spoke alike, listened to the same music and not a black girls mouth would have uttered the words "I'm a ho" and not a brother would called each other a ni66a. We had a chance at a solid upward growing America where some of the racial hatred was about to whither away. Now... We have 2 whites for every black person shot by cops but blacks are wanting cops to stop shooting just the black people. We have something called "white privilege" which is a myth because it's a TRUE experience but not because people are white. It's because people grew up in areas where their parents and community took responsibility to maintain it. A "privilege" lasts only as long as it's your turn to take responsibility. There's no such thing as a "black community" but everyone throws that around as if we have segregation and we don't.

Lastly most of these people claiming racism never had to rebuild their roof every year like rural whites grandparents had to. Wooden shingles. Upkeep of what you have was a requirement. You didn't buy huge TV's and not save for repairs.
Is it being poor or choosing not to take care of what you have?

Guns, Drugs, Prostitution. More money goes into the poor areas than the middle class when you consider these. Where is it being spent? I can't afford guns and bullets every weekend.

These two incidences that America has latched onto as a spear head against racism is deplorable. A loss of life is never the answer, but to put it simply both of these men are criminals, did they deserve to die? No they didn't. One robbed a store then assaulted a cop, the other has a huge history of breaking the law and resisted arrest to such a point that he was killed in the fight to detain him. Why is it the fault of the police officers that these men resisted arrest? It's not. The real issue in America is the people our country is allowing children to grow up in low come slums where family have to break the law to survive. Racism is not the issue in America and neither are the stereotypical jokes. Another sad truth is that the a lot of the black community are stuck in the poor class. The black community is shown as people who get rich quick and "easy" but in reality it's not that easy to become a rapper or an athlete. (stereotypical I know) but that's where a majority of the wealthiest black people reside in terms of career. This should be changed and black people shouldn't feel obligated to take this route. They can do what the stereotypical white person does too! I am for equality myself. I hate, like, and respect every race, every religion, every background, no matter who you are man or woman.

I'm not gonna even give my opinion to you because there is no point trying to argue, I only will say that we don't know what truly happened because there were no cameras so we only have several different sides and they are all full of lies including the cop's story. You know he didn't feel "threatened." But, yes it is sad that Eric's case hasn't been as publicized. I literally just heard of it today and watched the video. He definitely needs justice because he was choked out for no reason at all. Also, when you say its not a race issue. It is... The main issue why race relations won't get better... is because it's not talked about in a civil way, where both sides (in this case, black & white) aim to truly understand each other and better things.

From what I've witnessed, the major re-occuring flaw on each side is:

for the "black" side, the topic brings out anger / aggression way too quickly (aka, talk become 'heated' and leads to ears proverbially closing due to aggression).

for the "white" side, there is a lack of compassion, and genuinely care, for racism towards blacks (aka they want to pretend it doesn't exist)

There are lots of people who say similar. Racism will never disappear. It's been around forever in every part of the world.

If you are going to climb a mountain, you have to start climbing. Standing around at the bottom pointing to somebody who started slightly higher, talking about how unfair it is, doesn't get you to the top. Climbing gets you to the top. No amount of talk about the unfairness of it all will change that.

From maybe about the late 80s, all through the 90s and well into the 2000s were probably the best time for blacks in the US. That was a period when there was far less talking and pointing, and far more climbing. We saw far more blacks at the universities. We saw more in corporations. We saw more in the typically white suburbs. We saw more inter-racial couples, with less people looking out of the corner of their eyes.

It's not something that will happen overnight. But there has been a tremendous amount of progress.

There was a case where a family were having your typical argument. The daughter of the family walked away from the argument and the father walked with her to try and calm her. A cop saw him and stopped him. when he refused to show ID and was beaten to death. He was unarmed. The cops said that he refused to show ID and took a fighting stance. That doesn't justify the action of murdering someone 5 to 1. He didn't show ID, so what? He took a fighting stance, yea cause he was approached by 5 random dudes. That was self defense. None of the cops were charged with anything serious because the chief backed them up by saying it was "protocol" and that they were following orders. If your protocols affect not only the criminals, but many innocent lives, then your protocol sucks. The law isn't just imperfect. The law is designed to protect the cops when they screw up. I think that needs to be addressed.

I get onto the train platform, there is a cop. I get on the train, 4 cops! FOUR! right next to me. I don't think people choose to be racist; most racists were brought up in families which made it clear they didn't view black people as equal. You can't blame them for being brought up in that environment.
In relation to the recent incident in America, I'm not sure why people are basing it on race. If it was an innocent white male who got killed, no-one would bring up race but they would be angry at the justice system. Because it was a black male, they're not happy with the justice system but are also mixing in the ethnicity of the man. To me, I feel it was purely stupidity and aggressiveness on the officer's part. The problem with combating racism, while a noble cause is that you are essentially trying to control people's minds. I'm not sure how you can accomplish this. People are always going to be assholes.

The difference is coming together that I don't see happening. This Michael Brown case is a prime example. The militarization of the police and police brutality is a problem that we all should be concerned with. However the INSTANT the news hit the airwaves, it was painted as "racist cop kills unarmed black child" The reality was that this wasn't the case. So you have moderate people starting to defend the police because the reaction by the black community was completely wrong. So that drove a BIGGER wedge between the races.

And the history of demographics, schools, lack of good parenting/lack of fathers, drugs, and again the presence of the kkk has made it difficult but yes becoming more involved in a civil manner is definitely a solution. I live in an area where there was a lot of kkk and many of the blacks here despise the white people. And yes that of course does not make the news (not that it would help). I might be naïve but I think some of the programs that are being used in LA are working. The police there have programs to buy computers for the schools in black communities, they have ride alongs, sport programs and other projects that are involving the police to interact with the black community. Also I think fear is a huge factor. Many white police are afraid of black people and especially black males that have served time. Constance Rice is an activist and is a very unique one indeed. She is amazingly objective.

I can't deal with the racism, self-hatred and overall ignorance in my community. Sometimes, it's infuriating, but majority of the time it's just exhausting to hear. It saddens me to see to see black mother's celebrating the birth of mixed children and then raising their own children of full blood to think they aren't good enough. I can't be the only one that has witnessed this? Even with my boyfriend's family, his mom said, "never marry a Mexican, marry up"... How heart breaking is it to hear that from your own mothers.

It's terrible isn't it? My boyfriend is Cuban, he was driving down the road with a friend of ours and they passed a Latina woman running down the road. He asked my man if he thought she was hot. My man said no, I'm taken anyway, you know that. And the friend actually said yeah but wouldn't you be happier with a Latina girl?

Umm... your a hyprocratic. The same way you wouldn't wany people to generalize of what one African American did, so to you shouldn't generalize of what some cops did. Just bc you hear in the news these cases, it doesn't mean they represent the majority. These case could be one in a million. Just bc you hear of some cops being aggressive doesn't been all cops are. Just bc you hear of some people being racist or in your experience people were racist it doesn't mean the whole country is like that. It doesn't mean we havea racial divide problem.

I think the part that's really funny about this is that so many of the politicians and so-called racial leaders are making a fortune off peoples foolishness. Until people realize that saying you were a victim of discrimination makes you a victim. What I mean by that is whenever you say you're a victim then you need protecting. You're not seen as an equal at that. You are seen as strong you're seen as someone who needs help. And a lot of people do need help don't get me wrong in that. But as a whole it's important to realize that if you say you're a victim you will never be seen as an equal. Until you say I don't need special treatment I am an equal you will never be treated as an equal. Handouts are not hand ups. but unfortunately there is power in being a victim. And as long as people can make money off bigotry and hatred then racism will be a problem in America.

The real problem is between the rich and the poor. Poor people are seen as losers in society, while rich people can get away with just about anything if they have the power. Generally, since blacks are poorer, they easily get stepped on. This is not always the case, however, since rich blacks can get away with a lot too. Bill Cosby raped white women for years and got away with it. A poor black dude that rapes a white woman and he's luckily to get only 20 years. Police will protect the rich, but stalk the poor, especially in neighborhoods.

That's my theory, at least.
