Cultural appropriation is basic human interaction & has always happened. The spread of writing, art, music, found, etc always involves it. I only find it shady if people use it to mock another culture - not out of liking the style.
She looked good in it. Good for her. Who gives a fuck what culture the dress is from.
As long as it doesn't go with racism, I see no problem.
So do you believe in cultural appropriation?
@Rissyanne I don't care about it. A lot of our food is 'appropriated'
When you eat spaghetti, it's not American, it's not even Italian in origin: Italians got it from China.
When Europeans eat potatoes or tomatoes, these originated in the US.
And the Pizza was not invented in New York: Old Egyptians and probably old Babylonians ate a kind of pizza. Romans 'appropriated' it and added 'appropiated' tomatoes.
I thought you would be defending these people. After all they are liberals like you.
@Rissyanne As usual, you didn't even read what I wrote.
And as usual... you dont know when I am joking
@Rissyanne Do you joke some times? :-o
Unexpected!
That is over reacting !
Just leave people live and be happy !
No. This is a silly childish stupid fucking argument.
I wouldn't mind her wearing the qipao, but the fact that she made a stereotypical Asian pose while having a history of past racism doesn't make me want to approve it.
You may have misunderstood; she is not the one with a history of racisim, the man accusing her of cultural appropriation is.
No, she said Asians suck one time.
I hadn't seen that.
It's okay, we humans copy each others cultures anyway and we get away with it. That's how societies are supposed to work.
What I think these people don't realize is that sayiny we shouldn't wear, eat or do things from other cultures is essentially segregation.
Who cares? Let people wear what they want. I'm more offended by people going to prom than them wearing clothes of other cultures.
So, who has called out Beyonce or Minaj on their "cultural appropriation"?
Apparently people of color can't appropriate culture, only white folks. I guess I should be getting upset on Saint Paddy's day when every Wannabe Mick wants to pretend they are Irish. Including White non Irish. that's been appropriated for over a century.. I guess because its a White Culture, and its ok to dress in the green and used a faux accent...
Think people take things wayy to seriously these days. it's just a dress. besides, the guy who said it, was a guy.. not like he wears those, since he's a guy (unless he's a cross dresser)
Funny how that guy, who was so defensive of his own culture, was so quick to post on twitter a racist remark about black people, using the n-word. Apparently he thought it completely appropriate.
If I were her boyfriend i would inform Jeremy Lam that if he had a problem with the dress I would have no problem to show up and make him wear the dress.
This is so dumb. No one owns copyright to a culture. Culture is meant to be influence and shared.
Ask the chineese who promote their culture to the west. Not chineese Americans.
NO, cultural appropriation is a made up idea by social justtards to give something else to whine about.
It is by definition cultural appropriation, but I don't see a problem with it in a case like that.
I believe people should be able to wear what ever they want.
F**K political correctness in all its forms. Wear whatever you damn well please.
No. "Cultural appropriation" is all bs.
White peoples have a habit of doing this. However, I see nothing wrong with her wearing the dress.
