Rape culture does exist in certain Middle Eastern countries and such, but not in US!

Rape culture means that people in that culture promote and accept rape. US has never promoted nor accepted rape! (Slaves were an exception).

I'm not saying rape doesn't happen here though because it does, but it almost always ends with someone going to prison.

In the south, whenever a girl was assaulted or raped, the KKK would hang the nearest black.

http://famous-trials.com/emmetttill he wasn't even accused of rape, only of kissing her.

The cops and juries still do it: https://www.innocenceproject.org/cases/ the majority of these innocented people are black.

      Those are terrible incidents!

However, that first with the kkk seems to be blaming him for rape and giving justice. Rape culture would not have needed to blame an innocent person for "raping" (only kissed) someone.

The other stuff i saw on that second website you gave is the exact problem that saying US is a rape culture brings. It causes many men to be wrongfully accused of rape. However, the very essence of being put into prison because of rape proves US is not a rape culture.

In the states, it almost always never ends with someone going to prison. Other countries aren't that different from the U. S. when it comes to rape. And most people in each culture don't blatantly promote and accept rape. You're just making up excuses by comparing the U. S. to other countries. The real definition of rape culture is "a society or environment whose prevailing social attitudes [and behaviors] have the effect of normalizing or trivializing sexual assault and abuse." If you can't understand the previous sentence, then you need to learn how to fucking read.

I never compared US to other countries. I simply stated that I acknowledge the existence of rape culture in them. What I have been comparing to is your definition of rape culture. If you need me to spell it out in simple terms, I will. Rape is NOT considered normal in US, and is seen as disgusting, disturbing, and morally wrong. US is NOT a rape culture.

Instead of fighting a pointless, and irelevant battle on rape culture in US, why don't we focus on those countries where rape is normal and is acceptable in society.

@JackJPershing too bad there aren’t more guys like the ones you know. Unfortunately most guys are not supportive enough of women to make an impact on our society overall. I’m glad you know the right people, but they’re not every guy. It’s not enough for every guy to not rape people we need to be able to protect and support the women around us. When it’s common knowledge that any guy would protect a woman. You’ll see Rape decrease. Until then, unfortunately most women are on their own and facing society that tells about they’re wrong.

@JackJPershing Most guys you know would dismantle a man who forcibly jumped a girl as she walked past an alley and held her down and raped her. The same guys would sit and watch TV while a drunk guy and girl had consensual sex in the next room at a superbowl party. rape =/=rape half these crazies call that rape though.

I agree that both men and women can be sexual predators. I don't think that it is normalized in U. S. culture, however. If that were true, nobody would bat an eye at the notion of rape. In reality many people are outraged and sickened by it, myself included. None of the things in that pyramid were considered normal or okay when I was growing up. Sexist attitudes were consistently discouraged by my mother and father as well as the media, and the rest of that stuff? Forget it.
As for lying, both women AND men do that frequently and I don't know who to believe, so I'm naturally skeptical of everybody. If I'm familiar with a person who is alleging sexual misconduct and can vouch for their integrity, then it's a different story, and I will support them. But if I don't know the person, I'm not going to simply assume they're telling the truth.

I've been raped and then put down for coming forward I have PTSD from the rape the worst part for me is that I have two children my daughter won't remember what happened to me but my son will he walked in on my attacker. My attacker broke into my apartment and there is a major problem when even people in the law enforcement agency's act like the victim of a rape is at fault but it seems a lot of people in our society blame the victim

It's a better take then the other one you're speaking of, and I agree with most of the basic definitions. Going further than saying that would result in my having to create another MyTake on the subject, which I don't want to do other than to say it's even MORE prevalent in other areas of the world, especially under certain "religions".

Great, another female with a blue GAG account. Ugh!

"Almost every society does have a rape culture."

    This ^^ is absolute bullshit.

This MyTake, and the nonsensical references it provides, are based on arbitrary definitions of what constitutes a "rape culture". Anyone with any common sense would define rape culture as a culture in which rape is accepted. Rape is NOT accepted in western cultures like the US. Most people despise rape. That is NOT a rape culture. The end.

I looked up the term inside dictionary. com. If you're going to describe how rape culture doesn't exist, at least look up the original definition of rape culture first and then tell us how "it doesn't exist." It's a sociological term/concept that describes a phenomenon that happens within a society... Rape culture is "a society or environment whose prevailing social attitudes [and behaviors] have the effect of normalizing or trivializing sexual assault and abuse" (Dictionary. com). Almost every society does have a rape culture. Yes, including western countries such as the United States of America.

The actual difference between you and me is that we define rape culture differently. I use the original definition. You made up your own definition and assert that those who don't accept your definition are utter fools. The refusal of your part to accept the sociological/original definition of rape culture shows that you support, possess and perpetuate the social attitudes/behaviors that have the effect of normalizing or trivializing sexual assault/abuse.

There are exceedingly few people in western cultures who believe that sexual assault is normal or trivial, which essentially flushes your argument down the toilet (where it belongs).

There are certainly places in the world where actual rape cultures exist, but the US is not one of them. Claiming there is a rape culture in almost every society is just absurd, and only serves to trivialize the realities of true rape cultures. Well done, "dude".

I can see how you're trying so hard to take attention away from my rebuttals to your argument and you're still trying to inflict your definition of rape culture upon me.

Rape culture is "social attitudes/behaviors that have the effect of normalizing or trivializing sexual assault/abuse" (I gave examples of these in myTake). You either know what this means but you're trying to take attention away from it or you clearly can't understand English and don't bother to pick up a dictionary. Either one is equally bad. Your troll game is very bad too.

You're just twisting the definition. Rape culture isn't about consciously thinking that rape/assault itself is normal and trivial. It's about the social attitude/behavior that has the prevailing effect of normalizing and trivializing rape/assault. You're welcome for the free reading comprehension lesson.

There is no " rape culture " in developed 1st World countries. Rapists are , rightly , reviled. However false accusations are not uncommon either , a double crime , pure venomous malice against the accused intending to destroy his life , and hindering justice for those REAL victims.

I won't. Just make sure you use it correctly. A feminazi toadie is one of those males that is basically a servant of the feminazis.

Have fun, and put those disgusting toadie filth in their place.

Yes, this happens. But the fact that some of our species go and say "I was raped" even if they didn't. Thats the problem. If it happends too many times or its washed by media too often average Joes will get sick of it and won't pay attention. And if you make fake rape accusations the you make even more damage.

If somebody is messed up enough to rape another person, do you really think teaching them not to do it will work? Or would teaching people to protect themselves, not to blame victims but to prevent at least some people from being victims, be a better plan?

There is only a “rape culture” because people don’t know what classifies as rape...

@jacquesvol what? Forced sex is rape and "surprise sex" is too if its not consensual.

      What are you on about?

You have some points here about some of the more overlooked aspects of rape, but do Westerners really have a rape culture? I don't think so.

How is society "trivializing and normalizing" something that can get you thirty years in prison?

I do believe the ones who falsely accuse people of rape do ruin it for actual rape victims, that is part of the problem.

Also, Brock Turner only spent 3 months in jail for rape. Sounds like they're trivializing it to me.

@bloodmountain1990 Wilkerson in Boulder came off scott free, to give him a chance to build a professional life.
And a judge in Tulsa decided oral rape isn't rape if the victim is unconcious. :p

@jacquesvol There's also the guy in Alaska who was declared not guilty and didn't have to register as a sex offender for kidnapping a woman, choking her till she was unconscious and then masturbated on her. That's messed up.

The people who make false claims are a problem to which is why many people have a hard time believing rape victims, which is why a lot of rape victims don't speak out. It's a bad situation all around.

@jacquesvol Those are not typical cases at all!!! The average sentence is 9.8 years, in the only US stats I could find.

For one thing, Brock Turner did not commit rape, if only because he was prevented from doing so by passersby.

If rape culture exist, do you think there's no punishment for rape? And do you think guys don't get accused of rape too? There is no rape culture but just rape and it is still illegal. The idea of rape just got destroyed. Everything is rape according to feminists that's why that thing exist.

We also have a burglar culture. People are more interested in telling people to lock their doors and hide their valuables than telling people not to steal. That is FUCKED up.

One of the main causes is unlicensed and unregulated environments, people will push the boundaries often when no one is around to stop them, like security, establishment owners and police, Also if you greet people and say to yourself this person is a son or daughter, has a father or mother, would they still proceed to treat them as an object. This culture is not as prevalent in my country, but I am aware that it can happen, some places are more dangerous than others.
