Let's dive quickly into why that's bogus. So to start, yes, the ar-15 is extremely similar to the now getting phased out M4 rifles the US army used to love.

As far a I know an AR 15 shoots the same 5.56 round as an m4 and its parts are completely interchangeable includingits 30 round. Based it was designed to go to war its the perfect weapon for a mass shooting.
The m1911 is a side arm meant for personal defense at home on a battlefield. Really only carried by officers.
As for the mosin nagant, m1917, m1903, kar98, Lee Enfield these are bolt action rifles not ideal for a mass shooting as the require a large calibre round and baring the 10 round lee Enfield carry 5 rounds in stripper clips. They double as hunting rifles because most hunting rifles were based on battle rifles.
Mp40s and Thompson machine guns are generally banned and require special licences like most full auto weapons for good reason can you imagine the carnage if somebody started sparing with a fully auto submachine gilun like a p90 with a 50 round magazine or an MG42?

In conclusion weapon of war is not a meaningless and litteraly means that if you were a soldier off to war its the weapon would you be issued to take into battle, an assault rifle like the ar15/m4 rather than a mosin nagant

Factually the ar-15 is not a "perfect weapon for a mass shooting." The police literally stopped anyone from intervening for 50 minutes in the Uvalde shooting, giving him tons of time, and that resulted in 21 dead and 17 wounded. if it was that deadly a weapon, do you think it would be almost equal numbers of people who survived vs didn't?
Meanwhile in the Virginia Tech Massacre, the killer had a 9mm handgun and a.22lr handgun, and 32 victims died.
Not to mention semi auto thompsons and semi auto p90s are already available on the market. Fun fact, the thompson SMG was abandoned for poor stopping power, and the P90 never took off because while the round does great at punching through kevlar, it has pathetic stopping power.

Out of all the legal weapons you can easily buy in the US the AR15 with its 5.56 calibre, availability, 30-100 round magazine and the fact that virtually every military espicially special forces when given the choice will choose an m4/ar15 platform over an other available assault rifle or submachine it is the perfect mass shooter weapon.
In the Uvalde shooting the majority of the shooting took place in first 15 minutes.
The Virginia Tech Massacre guy probably hadn't the choice of an AR15 which is why he had two handguns of different calibres. One was.22
Andre's Brevnik used a Ruger mini 14 simply because he couldn't get his hands on an AK47 or AR15, he shot 100 people.
The majority of the deadlist mass shootings in the US involve a semi-auto rifle usually an AR15 or something very similar in design and function.

The Thompson wasn't abandoned until the introduction of the m14 and was still in service at the start of Vietnam and with ARVN it was largely superceded by submachine guns such as the m3 Grease Gun, Swedish k, M76, Walter mp, and fully automatic versions of the m1 carbine with the 30 round magazine which were lighter, quicker to produce and much cheaper to produce. For instance Delta, Navy seals and green berets though give the option of a Thompson would always choose a grease gun or Swedish k over a Thompson. Delta force loved the grease gun so much that they were still using it over the mp5 for the stopping power of that.45 acp, it was known for its stopping power. The US army bitched about the 9mm stopping power of the mp5 & m9 berreta for decades, its why the kept their 1911s as long as they could as did the Marines, the mp7 was built to fire. 45ACP. The P90 is rare and only used by government agencies. The civilians can own a p90 but I dont think they van buy the armor piercing rounds for it. The big thing about the p90 is that it takes a 50 round magazine, the rounds are smaller and lighter so you can carry more magazines. You could maybe carry 10 stagnag 30 5.56 round magazines which is 300 rounds while you could instead carry 3 p90 magazines at 50 rounds for ever stagnag 5.56 magazine so 300 rounds vs 1500 rounds with a P90.

Why are you correlating military rifle pick to mass shootings? My brother is in the army and is certified with m4 assault rifles. They literally have them shooting targets at hundreds of yards, because that's the goal--trained professionals shooting at people wearing armor a few hundred yards away. Not to mention, the army is moving away from the 5.56mm because they think the stopping power is awful.

Do you think a school shooter is engaging people in body armor hundreds of yards away, where toting a rifle around is fine? Oorrrr do you think he's shooting people with no body armor from 10 yards? Results speak for itself, uvalde the guy was shooting small children while police stopped anyone from interfering for an hour, and yet 44% of the people he shot lived.

Also, virginia tech the guy had a glock 19 and walther p22... there's less restrictions on buying rifles than handguns, an ar-15 can be bought for less than the cost of a glock alone, and only 34% of his victims got shot and lived while he also killed 32 people vs 21 as the texas guy. Oh and most popular 9mm handguns can accept 30 round magazines.

Because the m4/Ar15 is the weapon of choice for most mass shooters. The m4 is the weapon of choice for close up close quarters these days chosen over submachine guns even by police forces.
The 5.56 is deadly at close range especially in crowds. It has good stopping power but what the US army found was when they switched from the full sized M16 to the shorter M4 was that the 5.56 lost some range and stopping power which was a problemin Afghanistan but less of a problem going house to house in iraqi cities. They kept the m14 firing the 7.62 which the m16 with its 5.56 replaced in Vietnam because both the m16 and 5.56 was lighter. The Australian army in Vietnam used both the FAL firing 7.62 & m16 with 5.56, they found the fal had better penetration and stopping power but m16 was lighter and they could carry more rounds and choose the m16 when they could.
It's been 60 years since the 5.56 was introduced the US military has been looking a new round, it might be the 6.8 which makes up for the loss of stopping power and range lost when they switch from m16s to M4 carbines, a new round usually means a new rifle. I dont think 6.8 is going to live up to expectations of what the US military wants. Basically they want a round that fired through an m4 carbine type gives the a range of the m16 or m14, can penetrate body army, controllable in full auto, light, probably using caseless cartridges. The US Marines have rejected the 6.8 to keep the 5.56 but are adopting the IAR 27 to replace its m16s, m4s, designated marksman rifles, its SAWs all in the one carbine. The US army is no longer replacing its m4s with the hk416.

School shooters are likely going to start wearing body armour. Most of these mass shooters are bad shots. America also leads the way in treating gunshot victims but Andres brevnik with a mini 14 firing 5.56 shot 100 fleeing students, 77 died and he wasn't at 300 yards so that's a 77% death rate those results speak for themselves. The closer you are the deadlier the 5.56 round is, look at the Las Vegas shooter using 7.62 & 5.56 rounds he shot 1000 rounds 411 people and killed 61.
9mm lacks stopping power, the difference between the Virginia guy and texas guy was that the Virginia one was well planned he chained and put a padlock on the main doors to stop escape, like shooting fish in barrel in a crowded college campus.
In Robb Elementary School shooting maybe most of the teachers got the classroom doors locked. Also at close range 5.56 will over penetrate so as to injure the next person behind and will pass through walls, so indirect fire may have injured many.

The Buffalo shooter last month who killed 10 was wearing kevlar and a tactical helmet, an ex police officer working as a security guard shot him but his 9mm was unable to penetrate the body army and he was died after being shot by the perpetrators AR15.
