Technological advancement and political/sociological corruption are correlating to create a dystopian society

I was an early-90s baby and I only remember the first 10-15 years of my life being my experience without the internet and especially smartphones in society. By the time I was senior in high school, the internet, smartphones, and digital movies/books were already getting popular or had completely changed society.

People say that this progress is inevitable and irreversible. Overall society seems a lot worse than before the start of the century. I'm sure there were things that sucked even a lot in those older days, but from hearing from people who were old enough to remember, some things were more good than today. I'd even intuit that there was more good than bad things today. If there is some remote possible way to change this current status quo especially in my own lifetime, I'd entertain listening about it. The technology progress also seems to correlate with the increasing corruption of the political and sociological status quo.

People also say that I need to stop worrying about the rest of society and focus on myself primarily. I won't dismiss the truth in that, but the problem is that I am not an individualist purist. I want to live within a society of institutions and elites that aligns closely if not perfect with my views. You might think that sounds a little egotistical. But I say whatever.

I don't want society to go back to the medieval era though. I mean "modern" by referring to literally anywhere after 2004 and especially the 2010s-on.
