What makes me mad about "feminists."

I, as a girl, am thankful for my rights. I am thankful for all the women for gave me these rights. I believe in the equality of men and women, and i have marched in a fair amount of feminist parades. I don't consider myself a feminist. I do however support women's rights and beleive that men and women are equal.

However, i'm sorry to say, a fair amount of women call themselves feminists, and well, they're not. And this makes me mad.

Many times i have heard women who call themsleves feminists put down men. Insult men. Stereotype men. Imply men are inferior to women. Yeah, i get it. You think women are great and men shouldn't belittle them, i agree.

But feminism is not WOMEN ARE BETTER THAN MEN. Femimism is WOMEN ARE EQUAL TO MEN. That's what it's all about- equality.

I have even had male friends who have gone to march in feminism parades and been turned away. I believe that men caring about this cause is more powerful. Women need to realise that when they fight for their rights, it is the right to be equal. Acting as if women are superior to men in any way is just as bad as men treating women as if they are not as important.

These "feminists" make me mad. They are undoing all these years of hard work to bring women to power. If you're going to use your voice to advocate these messages, please, keep your mouth shut.

No. Please do excuse me but any one who calls themselves a feminist in all technicality IS a feminist. I have said this before already, if feminists want to make a clear distinction in what a "true" feminist is then feminism needs to become an organization with membership. Until then most people have no choice but to lump them all together.

My husband knows the worst insult he can throw at me is calling me a feminist. Women are not subjectified the way they think they are. They are now equals! There are cases where this isn't true but for the most part it is. Why is it that if a girl gets drunk and has a 1 night stand she is allowed to call rape when she regrets it in the morning? Ugh no, If someone is drunk (and you are not) and you convince them to have sex with you - that is rape. You are taking advantage of someone who is more vulnerable than you. Thats why dctors having sex with their patients is banned and why sleeping with a minor is banned - these people are not in the right state of mind to consent to sex.

As for the 'we are now equals' comment that is ridiculous. What about the wage gap? What about all the men that are told to 'man up' like being physically male isn't enough to be regarded as a man.

Let me tell you, I've been drunk and had guys convince me to sleep with them. I didn't call rape the next morning. I called it a bad decision. With that logic drunk criminals shouldn't be charged because they weren't thinking to full capacity. I mean a hot girl wants to show off her body in skimpy clothes and a drunk man decided to rape her? Not his fault, he was drunk and thought she came on to him. Wage gap is bull shit. Men who want to be thought of as manly should man up and those that don't should care less about the comment. I'm TIRED of the victim card being pulled. Totally agree. Gender equality may be the "dictionary definition" of feminism, but it's not what many or even most feminists truly believe. Modern feminism looks more like a hate group, doing what all hate groups do - blaming and demonizing one group of people (whether it's blacks, Jews, or in feminism's case, men) for all the world's problems. You never see them fighting to get more boys into college or for harsher sentences for female criminals.

If you believe in true equality, why call yourself a FEMINist? Go watch some videos by Christina Hoff Sommers or Karen Straughan and maybe one day you'll decide to call yourself an equalist or humanist who believes in egalitarianism.

I'm sorry, I thought it was men who perform most catcalls. I thought it was men who perform the majority of gender violence and rape. That is not natural, that is what society influences men to act like.
I'm not blaming men for every single problem that women face. I'm not blaming men at all, actually. It's the patriarchist way of thought we are burdened with that causes this things. Moderate feminism (NOT radical feminism, there is an obvious difference and if you think there isn't, you are generalizing) does not want men to be killed. We want to destroy the toxic and harmful conceptions that surround gender, so that people are able to freely express their own gender.
And yes, there are many points at which feminism overlaps with egalitarianism, but that's bullshit, because treating everyone the same is pointless and ineffective, as everyone is different and thus has different needs that must be attended differently. Last but not least, feminist men also struggle to overthrow sexism aimed at men. When men's claims of domestic violence are not taken seriously or seen as amusing, that's a feminist issue, because the patriarchy that privileges masculinity only privileges one type of masculinity. And like I just said, free expression of gender is the objective of intersectional feminism
PS: There are many branches to feminism. Stop generalizing us as radical and man-hating, because not all of us think this way, even if the media portrays that. Obviously, those who hold privilege don't want it threatened and do everything in their power to slander us.

At worst, there are feminists who hate and bash men. Not all fall in this category but there are enough of them - including some very prominent voices in the public eye - to taint the entire movement. The fact this Take was written at all proves that.

Even moderate feminists like yourself still subscribe to notions of "the Patriarchy", "rape culture", "gaze theory", none of which is based on any real science or research. Reading the crime section in my local paper, it appears that muggings are way more common than rapes. But no one says we live in a "mugging culture". Feminists make everything about gender. Its a fact most gender differences are genetic, not environmental. Given a choice, male toddlers will always pick war toys, females will always favour baby dolls, even when their parents have never pushed them towards one or the other. Feminism is the rejection of reality in favour of its own self-serving theories. Time to retire the sexist term "feminism" and be an equalist instead

Not really disagreeing with the overall point, but you're basing it on a logical fallacy. Your chain analogy applies to function, not perception, and therefore doesn't really apply.

Also, it's easy to find many examples of situations where a group or team has succeeded solely due to extraordinary performance of an individual, so the anecdote doesn't even really work for arguments that its designed to support.

Despite some of these comments, I take normal feminism to be completely logical and reasonable, such as evening out the wage gap. However, it is incorrect to group people who want basic equality with those who are calling for gender supremacy. While some guys complain that their end is not being evened out, and I agree that it's an issue, there will always be differences in how men and women are treated.
