I'm turning 21 on the 4th of July and I feel like everyone I know except for me is excited about it. Am I the only one who is afraid of turning 21?

It scares me because I keep hearing all of these espectiations of me when it comes to behavior, and how to dress, and what to drink that comes with it. I don't have any intentions to drink any acohol despite everyone saying I should try and go crazy, and I don't want any of this though because I like the way I am now from my crazy kawaii fashion  choices to the multiple boxes of juice in the fridge. Why is there this huge hoohaa with society that tells you that you have to do a full 180 in your life at that age? I feel so old... e. e

You don't have to do a "full 180" at 21. Appreciate life. Attain what you want to make it more comfortable. The U. S. has a strange relationship with how it regulates any drugs. I'm not big on drinking, if you mix different beverages, you'll most likely puke. Almost envy some of the small blonde party clubbin' girls who are able to take bountiful amounts of alcohol into themselves in a way that they just black out. Everything in moderation, you never have to go get caught up with people's untenable hype.

I didn't drink at all on my 21 st bday. It was the end of finals and we were all ready to have one last party for the term. But i was determined not to drink until my bday at midnight! It turned out to be a good decision since I had to go pick up one of my roommates from jail...

SO! Things don't always turn out exactly as you expect! And if you go into things with a good attitude they can turn out better! Or at least you'll get a good horror story to tell people about for years XD

My dad turned 21 the day after I was born. He didn't get to go out and drink. He got to change my diapers all night. He told me on my 21st, I had to drink enough to make up for his 21st and mine. I was soooo scared cause I wasn't a big drinker that I actually cancelled my trip to see him. He came and got me anyways. It was a good time, nonetheless.

I don't feel that way, I turned 21 this year and it was like turning 19, and 20. I think you should live your life the way you want, everyone goes at their own pace, so go at your own pace. Don't feel pressured to do certain things just because other people say so, you'll end up feeling stressed out, you're still young so do what you want!

21 is just a number. If you do not intend to drink alcohol then that is fine. People just want you to be happy and have fun, and at 21 that is the "biggest" thing to do. I remember when I turned 21 and people kept giving me drinks. It was not fun at all, to tell you the truth.

Perhaps you can still have a glass of wine or some small token to "celebrate." No need to get crazy at all. Or if someone is bothering you, tell them you want to "taste" all the drinks, so you only take small sips or not at all.

Or just empty an alcohol container and fill it with water so that people think you're drinking.

Or just tell everyone that juice is 100x better than vodka, because it is.

you are free to live your life how you want-- it's not like at 18 you suddenly changed and "became an adult" in one day. it's the same idea! as long as you're enjoying being who you are there's nothing wrong with not wanting to change 'because you're 21'

I absolutely love my birthday every year because it's a celebration of life, my life. That does not mean I have a wonderful life, it means I realize that not everyone gets to be my age. Not that I'm old by any means, but no matter how old you are so many have died younger than you. So I consider every year a privilege.

I kinda felt this way too, but honestly when you turn 21 its not a big deal at all. Its fun, but there aren't many expectations. Just wear what you'd wear when you go to parties and don't be an annoying drunk. Just go to enjoy yourself.

I broke my ankle on my 21st birthday. I was so pissed off. 21 is no big deal where I live because the legal age is 18, but try turning 35. Then you will wish to hell you were turning 21 again lol.
