I need tips for freshman year in high school. thoughts? I want advise in all parts of high school, including dating and relationships. Advise?

I'll be 15 in September, and I'm going to a new school district, but I still know SOME people there. There are about 1100 kids at my school. I want to start dating and being more social this year, since I will be in high school, but I'm not very pretty (see pictures) I'm relatively talented, but no one really knows what I can do. I'm a level 10 trampolinist, and I'm trying to be an elite this coming comp season. I want to be noticed, rather then just exist. Tips?

I would say thinking you're pretty and talented first is a good basis to work off of. Once you believe yourself capable of having friends and dating, then it will come. High school is a great and sometimes bad place, and you will go through stages like everyone else. It is made easier by getting yourself into after school activities, making the right friends, and being yourself, regardless if that makes you 'popular' or not. Going to sports games, talking to people, trying different things, and having a few close friends is going to help you achieve being more social and will open up your dating prospects. -Be yourself. Might seem cliche, well, there's a reason why things are cliche. It's easier and more fun and more interesting to be yourself anyway.

-REMEMBER: After high school, you will never see 90% of those people again, unless you go to the reunion. 99.9% if you go to out of state college. What this means is that you can pretty much do anything, and it'll only be embarrassing for the rest of high school, but after that, your history is pretty much gone - as long as it's not illegal. So don't get embarrassed by anything. From an old introvert to freshmen who may or may not be introverted: BE OUTGOING.

-Get good grades. They do matter, especially your first years. If you start out with bad habits, it's easy to continue those habits. Your GPA is pretty much why you need good grades. In senior year, colleges will receive your GPA and grades, but you won't have senior grades yet, so those don't matter as much ('til after you're accepted). But your GPA still will. The grades you get in high school can sometimes be directly proportionate to how much you get paid later in life, which is annoying. Good grades -> better college -> better resume and credentials -> better job. This is only in theory though, and if you create your own business and you're successful then you'll be laughing about how hard you studied, or how little you studied.

-Try to take interesting classes. Even if they're not "easy A" courses, you might still end up getting an A because you enjoy learning about the class. Also, 90% of people in high school have barely any idea of what they're planning on majoring in for college. The other 10% will most likely change their minds at some point.

-If you have a history of not liking some of your teachers, then LISTEN to what other students say about teachers. If a teacher is generally disliked by multiple people, then they're probably pretty bad, in one way or another. And most of the teachers at my school who are liked by students are often talked about in positive ways by students.

-Know that the upperclassman mostly ACT like they don't want to associate with you because it keeps their ego up and they think it makes them look cool. But, be open to friends of all grades. You might get free rides to lunch or home because the upperclassmen can drive.

-Do your homework. It counts towards your grade, and it WILL help you learn the material better, so you'll do better on tests.

-Don't be a jerk or annoying to the teacher. It makes it awkward for other students who realize how stupid you make yourself look. And it's just not a good thing to do anyway, obviously. Of course, you'll see a lot less of this in high school, because teachers can be fun to talk to in high school, since the students are a bit more easy for the teachers to relate to since the students are almost adults.

-Keep in mind: the transition from elementary to middle school is WAY more significant than middle to high school. The difference between middle and high is that you have an increased amount of things compared to what you had in middle school. More homework, more friends, more class periods (maybe), more classes to choose from, more acquaintances, more off campus, more activities and clubs than you can do, more variety between you and your friends schedules, more responsibility, more planning for your future. High school is like middle school on steroids, but keep in mind that along with all these responsibilities, there is also a lot more fun and freedom to make up for it.

-It's important to be friendly to the people you sit near in your class. If you're not the popular guy/girl, then you will most likely not have your friends in most of your classes. Well, unless you're on the same level as them or you plan it or whatever. Still, I got unlucky, so it was a good thing that I made friends with the other people. That way, I had a partner for activities.

-Get to know teachers. They'll write you recommendations and nice crap like that. Plus you can ask them for help. Actually asking them for help would help them get to know you, so do it!

-Please don't gather with your friends in the middle of the main hallways. Freshmen always do it. It's extremely annoying, and sometimes upperclassmen will have bad days so they don't care whether you're in front of them or not. That's the only thing about high school that is depicted somewhat accurately in the movies...

-Speaking of those nonsensical ABC Family high school movies/shows, don't worry about bullying. I mean, it depends on your school, but in general, it's not as prominent as the media makes it out to be. People just treat it awkwardly, and there are no bullies at my school. There have never been. Maybe people make fun behind backs or something, but who really cares if you never know about it? Just... don't hate anyone and most likely nobody will hate you back. If you do get bullied, take it with a grain of salt. Who knows what the bully's problem is, but we all know it exists and he can't deal with any other way. Kids also might tease each other a lot but it's usually in good humor.

Even if you might be very self conscious, pretend you're not! I've noticed that my life suddenly got a whole lot easier when I just started pretending I liked myself. Eventually I actually started liking myseld and nowadays when I look into a mirror I can think "holy shit I look good", even though I'm not actually that pretty.

But you actually are pretty!! Just be yourself, try talking to as many people as possible and try making at least one new friend in every different class you're in. Eventually you'll have many friends, some of them will then develop into best friends 😊

I also recommend not talking about people behind their backs and being negative in general. Pessimism defines a person so much, and in general people don't like surrending themselves with pessimistic people. 😊

I was actually depressed for many years, but I started getting better last fall when I started what we call gymnasium here (equal to your upper high school?) I got new friends and in the beginning I was embarrassed of myself since they were so mentally healthy, but I wasn't. So I pretended being happy. Eventually I actually started being genuinely happy and I didn't cry as much anymore. I did have a dark time again when our summer vacation started, but that's way too off topic and another story to tell.

Be true to yourself. Pick friends who are honest, thoughtful & considerate. Friends will come
& go during your life. You will always have yourself. Pick friends who will enhance your life.
Make good desicions. You are your best friend.
Stay away from drugs & people that use them.
Stop to think how what you choose will affect you.
Use common sense.
If you do make a bad choise. (and you will). Everybody does. Remember it & try not to make it again.
