My boyfriend says he wants a break to focus on his grades?

Even though we haven't been together that long we've been pretty serious...he had even started talking about the future & marriage...but then suddenly said he needed to focus on his grades this semester because he did really bad last semester but as soon as he got comfortable with his grades and teachers he would be "back" and that he would never leave me and I would never lose him...he just needs to be able to focus on school right now. But when I asked if this break was really just about learning how to balance everything in his life right now or if it was for him to figure out if this is really what he wants, he said "i would say both I don't know I just want sometime to see" ...should I give him the time he asked for to focus school and hope for the best or is he just stringing me along waiting for me to get frustrated & break it off so he doesn't have to do it?

I totally understand where you're coming from and how you're feeling. I went through this same thing in December and it wasn't easy. But if you love him, you do have to understand that he needs a little space to get his life and school stuff together, but that doesn't mean that you guys should completely be "on a break". You have to learn the balance between together time and personal time.

You don't have a choice...you have to give him the space he wants. He's not happy in the relationship and if you keep seeing him, you're not going to be happy either.

well there is nothing wrong with him focusing some time of his school work but that shouldn't be the end of your relationship , maybe you could study together or do homework together . there must be some options there that would allow for him to do better in school but still see you

I had to deal with this situation myself...But we didn't break what I had ended up doing was to only hangout only if I have some free time. But ended up my girlfriend helped me study for a test maybe you can help him study ?
