What makes someone of the opposite sex "intimidating" to you?

This question is obviously geared towards straight people specifically, but if you're gay you can look at it from "same sex" perspective too

I find other guys intimidating mostly because I was beat up a lot in high school for my sexual orientation then straight out of high school got into some awful relationships, but I know I'm not an abuser so I definitely don't characterise my whole gender as violent and abusive... I just wonder sometimes when I'm alone with a new guy whether I'm going to be one of the unlucky ones who hooks up with Jeffrey Dahlmer.

For me it is usually height and light colored eyes. Not that I'm more attracted to a tall girl or a girl with light colored eyes it's just that "intimidates" me more.

Mainly when that person is with other people. That would intimate me the most and definitely hinder me possibly making a move. Other than that I suppose it's intimidating too if the other person doesn't make eye contact with me or looks away. It gives off the impression that they don't want to talk to me which isn't a good feeling.
