How can a skirt be on backwards?

I was talking to a female friend and she randomly says "hold on, I just realized my skirt is on backwards" and fixes it. She then keeps talking like nothing happened.

This is probably a stupid question, but how can a skirt be on backwards?

I really need to phrase my questions better. I was asking if a skirt actually distinguishes between the front or the back... apparently it does. Thanks.

Well we all wear our clothes with the tag in the back. Sometimes certain clothes may not have a tag in the back and you end up putting it on wrong. Maybe she was in a rush getting dress or maybe she was moving around and somehow her skirt got twisted causing it to be on backwards. That does happen.

if the skirt doesn't have a zipper or some obvious design on the front, then it's very possible to wear it backwards.

Easily, the zip goes at the back. She must've just got forgotten to spin it back round again after getting dressed.

The zipper for the skirt could have accidentally been showing in the front.
