Whether spanking is in vogue depends upon the culture in which you and your parents were raised. If you came from upper middle class roots and your parents and Ivy League products, I suspect that spankings would be a foreign concept. If you came from lower middle class roots and your parents were both high school drop outs, spankings were probably quite familiar.
I received a few spankings when I was a child. Most of my peers did. We were not traumatized by the experience and we learned that here were rules which MUST be followed and that there is someone bigger and stronger than us who can enforce rules and the laws, so it was very adaptive for us to learn to comply with the structure that was imposed on us. Many may want to comment that such an approach does not inspire rugged individualism; to that I would offer two observations:
1. Over the long haul of your life, compliance with the structure and requirements of our society will gain you more than will rebelliousness and attempting to be an iconoclast.
2. On Sunday mornings, as I am driving to church, I see legions of "rugged individualists" who have joined together for extended bike rides in the suburban neighborhoods. They are primarily aged 25-35, Caucasian males, young professionals, their bikes all look alike, and they are all wearing the team uniform (their spandex - I presume - bicycling pants and shirts and their helmets.) In their own minds, they may be rugged individualists but, to me, they look like a pack of the legendary lemmings on their way to the sea.

Spanking? awwww... thats so cute.
Where i come from, we call it asswhooping. spanking is a couple hits and you go and the world has a problem with that... pfft... they should watch an asswhooping in progress cuz anything goes. Starts out nice and quiet with the switch/cane or tv cable or hand or whatever is available, then when you try to run, furniture gets moved around and thrown, shoes whistling past your head as you try to get away. hearing feet behind you with a voice telling you that you are gonna get more JUST for running...
What do you think made me a very good athlete in school? lol
Im all for spanking, its the way my parents were raised, its the way i was raised, and dammit my kids gonna get some...
right? @Negrodamuss
Funniest aspect of an asswhooping in progress is when the SJWs try to say something, anyone who has spoken against an asswhooping WHILE its in progress has ALWAYS become part of the whooping lol... written in stone.
I was spanked.
I can count on one hand the number of times. I wasn't a bad kid.
The way it works is as follows:
Parent: Listen, these are the rules. If you break them, you will be spanked.
Me: Breaks rules
Parent: Re-explains rules and reminds me that if I break them I will be spanked.
Me: Breaks rules again.
Parent: Spanks me. Explains to me how we arrived at this. How I was told twice what the rules were and how I deliberately disobeyed (at least the second time lol). Reminded me about how I was told what would happen if I disobeyed and how it's my own dumb fault for getting spanked because they were more than fair.
I remember that happening like 5 times max. And prior to being spanked I remember deliberately making the choice to disobey a second time because I thought I was a sneaky little bugger haha
These all happened between ages 5 and probably 10. When you're old enough to understand direction. I also remember debating whether or not the spanking was worth whatever it is I wanted to do against the instruction of my parents.
Nope. I think it's more of a "person of colour" thing. I've heard black people, turkish people etc talk about being spanked but never white people.
The only thing I've ever had is my mother dragging me by my upper arm harshly or tugging my ear. My dad once hit my shoulder, but not too hard.
Yeah, I think lots of kids aren't hit and act better now. Sooo many older people act way worse, and technically can be more mature... but just not be more mature when it comes to lifestyles or random decisions.
No I wasn't. Brother was and he just acted worse.

I live in new england but i can't say whether they spank here. My mother did not discipline us, she simply beat the shit out of because she was a raging psychopath who was admitted to the nuthouse on several occasions lol. So i dont know if that counts! Im surprised you dont know anyone who didn't get hit. I thought everyone got beat to some extent lol.
more like they smacked me with the cooking spoon for cursing
lol but i learned my lesson and cursed in private

A belt

In the Caribbean it is VERY common and legal to slap the fuck outta your child if they act out. I came out quite fine, so did my sister, my mom, my dad, my aunts and uncles, grandparents, cousins and friends :)
My dad never slapped me though, neither did he slap my sister. He would just shout at us if we were misbehaving.Hell yeah i was spanked! Got the belt from my Dad, fly swatter from my Mom.. I got in a little trouble in Jr. High and would two whacks from the Principal instead of spending 2 hours in detention. I think it's much more effective and easier than grounding and time outs..
Yeah. My parents whipped the hell out of me often enough until I was about 13. It didn't kill me. I'm perfectly fine. I might be a little aggressive towards random mother fuckers at the club, but I think that's pretty healthy. To be a man is to be a warrior. It's in our nature.
Yeah I was spanked a lot by my father. He was throwing, and hitting me to walls and shit, but He was usually beating me with his belt. I knew he loves his son but he was just agressive and problematic man. There were times I deserved, but He also beat me a lot for stupid things aswell.
I don't want to harm my kids with beating them, I hope I can controll my temper.I'm in the uk, and certainly had my fair share of them :(
it's not something i advertise nor tend to chat to people about in real life, would be just way to embarrassing. so maybe there are more out there who have got them, but just prefer not to admit to it, who knows.

I was spanked once and a while, and my mother always explained why she was doing it. I always deserved it. It always with her hand and it was never more than a few slaps on the butt.
I was a couple times. Never beaten or made to feel afraid of my parents. It was just the last tool in their repertoire when I was being a complete fuck head. And it worked.
I was spanked as a child and I was extremely obedient to my parents as a kid and was full of love, compassion and empathy for others. I was also very happy. That changed when I got older.
I was, but I was a good kid. It only happened like three times max. I was only grounded once in my life when I got older. They never really had a reason to punish me.
I was spanked with a wooden spoon and a spatula or just the hand. spanking isn't bad unless you're giving the kid bruises and beating him or her senseless and then it's bad that's where it becomes abuse.
Yup I was spanked growing up and I thank my parents for it I deserved it when I Acted out. And I support doing it as a discipline I'll do it to my kids to if they deserve it.
Yup, my mum would spank me when i was wrong, but she was always there to comfort me afterwards. My backside was often blue growing up haha. But i turned out alright i guess ;)
Spanked, kicked, beaten with a plastic spoon used for cooking and even lifted up by my neck till the point of almost blacking out.
Yes
Not with cruelty, not with anything other than an open hand, and not without good reason.
My parents remain my closest friends. No, because I wasn't a little demon child :)
I know a few children that could use a good spanking though.it was threatened enough but never had to get to that stage
I was spanked a couple of times and they were when I was very young. Honestly people are over-blowing it being wrong. It terrified me then but that made me behave. That said will I spank if I were ever to have children? Probably not
Yes but only on very rare occasions and they didn't really hurt.
