Do people have a right to be happy or they have to earn it?

I believe we have a right to be happy, but have to work for a break.

You should just be happy that your alive! I mean really we are conscious and can experience life right now! We have potential to do so much! And we should love, believe, and support ourselves but very few do. Yes you should be happy, but you don't have to happy when your going trough bad times or doing something you hate. Be happy the most you can genuinely.

Breaks like relaxing or vacation should be earned.

Yes, I believe that people have the right to be happy. But most of the times you have to fight really hard for your happiness.

Society should do everything it can to give each person a good life, there's no reason why everybody can't be happy, there is enough shit that goes on besides the misery of trying to be successful.

To make it a right, doesn't make sense maybe an obligation by the government.

But no matter if it were a right or not, people still have to make it a priority

Ummm. Both? If I only had a right to be happy, how would I get it? Would I just ask to be happy? It's like asking if Americans have the right to bear arms or if they have to earn it. It's both. You automatically are given the right, but you have to earn the arm yourself through a license and payment of the weapon.

Nope. At best, you only have the right to pursue happiness. Logically all rights are negative obligations: you don't have the right to pursue happiness as much as it is no one else has the right to interfere (unless your pursuit commits an aggressive act against them).
