Race preference based on physical appearance isn't racist. How a person may prefer brunette more than blondes some people prefer some races more than others. Some facial features, body builds and hair types are more common among some races than others, so if you've a preference for certain features it's natural to have race preference too. We've different tastes on what we finds the most beautiful and attractive.

But if your race preference is based on stereotypes and you refuse to date anyone just because of their race despite the other attractive qualities the individual has, then it might be a bit racist. Stereotypes like "I don't date X because they're annoying" or "I won't date Y because they're all criminals" are racist prejudice.

It's common to date within our own race because it's what we're most familiar with and familiarity is something that may attract many humans. It takes time to get used to new looks, new people etc. I thinks humans biologically likes familiarity. Only some likes a bit exotic look due the diversity in the gene pool is important.
