My boyfriend wants to join the Air Force.

I just have a few questions.

1. how safe is this branch?

2.how does the going away part work?

I don't want him to be away from me too long.

3. where will he go?

4. he likes the benefits..so what specifically are they?

5. being a pacifist..how should I deal?

Were still in high school but he's in jrotc and is set on joining the rotc program in college. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I did six years in the Navy, I don't know a whole lot about the air force but I will help you as best I can.

1. Every branch has safe jobs and every branch has dangerous jobs, but all in all, the air force is fairly safe, especially if he will be working on the ground. To be honest your boyfriend was probably in just as much danger of getting in a serious car wreck in high school as he would be getting seriously hurt in the air force.

2. I am not exactly sure how the Officer training goes, but once he is a commissioned officer he will be stationed at a base, could be in another country, he can ask for a certain place but it isn't a sure thing. He will get 30 days of leave a year so if he is far away he will probably only make it home 2 or 3 times a year.

3. He won't even be commissioned for another 4 years, it is impossible to know where he may end up serving.

4. The pay for officers is pretty good, plus if he goes rotc they will pay for his college (I think). While he and his dependents get good health care for super cheap. He will also get an excellent life insurance policy, and certain veterans benifits for the rest of his life, such as a VA loan if he wants to buy a house. There are more, you can find them online with a bit of snooping

5. You should thank him. pacifists are able to practice their foolish beliefs only because of the protection offered by those who are willing to place themselves in harms way.

Well he goes away for periods of time and you don't have any say in it

Where ever they send him

Medical, financial, career etc

Doesnt concern you unless you are planing to control him like a robot...or brain wash him

My boyfriend is thinking of joining too and honestly, when I see guys like "down below" talking the way they do I don't think I want to end up with a guy that will soon think like that because the armed forces do brainwash too. (Check other posts on yahoo answers too, posts posted by people in the airforce or what not are so disrespectful when they answer questions, calling them selfish and all)

The way they talk is so pathetic, they insult you even though you are just wondering how your life will turn out and if he'll be there to raise your kids and give you what you need at night, so YOU have to accept that he will be away and he didn't consider you in his decision and YOU have to be the supporting wife/mother that he wants you to be. They all need to be left alone and have wives that are in the army as well so they know how it is to be with someone like them.

And I am a pacifist and I thank God that's how I am, weapons scare me and I do not like hate I'm sorry. I am a future veterinarian and if I we weren't there practicing our foolish peace and love seeking jobs you guys would all be dead and lonely and this planet would be even more of a massacre than it already is.

I was in Air Force ROTC in college. i planned on being a pilot after I graduated. However they had an eye test I could not pass so I was dropped from the program. If I was able to graduate I would have had to serve for 6 years. I had a full scholarship to college and I had to spend the summer after Freshman year in basic training in San Antonio. I really was disappointed that I could not pass the physical. It is vert strict. There were several guys that got dropped during that summer.
I met guys that went through the program and were pilots and they really loved it.
