+1 yI've made up my mind that in cases involving rape or an increased threat to the mother's life during pregnancy or child birth, the freedom to have an abortion should certainly be protected under the law.
However, I am undecided on how I feel legislation regarding abortion should be handled in cases in which the pregnancy is a result of sheer irresponsibility.
On one hand, I believe all life should be protected by the government--in fact, I think that should be just about the government's only role in society. Plus, I believe that having sex (even with adequate protection, especially without) equates to accepting responsibility for the consequences, especially when the consequences are as sufferable as a mere 9 months of discomfort and a few hours of pain.
On the other hand, I am hesitant to grant more authority to the state than it already has, especially when the powers given to it could quite possibly lead to the routine infringement on bodily autonomy in other instances. Plus, outlawing what one might consider unjust abortion doesn't guarantee the end of its practice. People would simply seek abortion services from illegal (and likely less safe) sources, which would just result in even more casualties.10 Reply

@BlueCoyote 100% yes. In fact a majority of people want comprehensive sex-ed classes taught at schools.

It's not just the woman's body once she's pregnant. The baby has different DNA. there's a life in there that needs fighting for. I don't think the woman's wants are more important than the baby's life. She's the one who messed up. The baby is an innocent. I'm pro choice if you look at it as Im pro- contraceptive, pro- adoption, and pro- abstinence. Please, don't bring up abortion in the case of rape and incest. It's only 1% of all abortions. there's a bigger issue here and it's the selfishness of women.
If you get an abortion you don't EVER deserve to have a child. Just get your tubes tied if you don't want kids and aren't willing to make better decisions to prevent or give to a another family. It's the most selfish heartless thing these women can do. I'll never support them in this.30 Reply
+1 yI think abortion should be acceptable up to a certain number of months. It should not surpass 3 months, and honestly mother's, that tons of time to prepare yourself, no excuses. Otherwise, just don't get pregnant in the first place. If I absolutely had to I would abort, but the guilt would still be there no matter how early in pregnancy, so I am just sort of avoiding pregnancy to begin with. People who are religious are against birth control and condoms because it is not natural intercourse. So in the case of a religious person literally just don't have sex. Do oral or something. I don't know how many times I have heard of teens get pregnant and I don't think it was just a coincidence that they were also all christian
11 Reply- +1 y
Oh ya and it is these same people that are dead set against aborting. Not only is safe-sex a sin in regards to religion, but it is even more sinful to end the unborn fetuses life. So ya, if this is ur brief that unfortunately you will probably just have to refrain from sex, sorry. Not my fault that we have overpopulation.
+1 yDefinitely yes. If you have medical problems, if the baby isn't healthy, if you have financial problems, if you're too young or if you just don't want it, you have every right to abort it.
It's better if a child is never born rather than it's doomed to live a miserable life.38 Reply- +1 y
Life quality is very subjective. A really rich person like Bill Gates may consider my poor life to be miserable. Wouldn't give him the right to kill me before I was born.
Asker+1 yOh my God your mom lost an in incredible abortion.
Asker+1 yNessy I love your answer
- +1 y
Well it's not Bill Gates who decides to about your baby, is he?
It's irresponsible to bring a baby to the world if you barely get by yourself. If you have enough money to sustain it, than go ahead. Otherwise you both will suffer. - +1 y
But the idea of a miserable life is so subjective. A woman should not be allowed to kill her baby just because she *thinks* it will have a "miserable life". How would she even know what kind of life it will have? There are plenty of people who have been born into poverty and end up very wealthy.
Asker+1 yThe thing here is the child won't be loved or maybe yes but who cares, if the woman doesn't want to have a baby why can't she decide? It's not your body
- +1 y
As I said, if a mother has a very bad time getting by herself on her own, a baby probably won't have a very nice life. Perhaps maybe in the future, but I think that's quite rare.
Living in a slum isn't really a good life, is it - +1 y
"The thing here is the child won't be loved or maybe yes but who cares"
The child IS being loved, if it's allowed to live in the first place...
"if the woman doesn't want to have a baby why can't she decide?"
1) cuz the baby equally belongs to the man and the man needs to protect and provide for the pregnant woman who is inturn expected to protect and provide for the baby
2) the baby is not a part of her body and is a different life (different DNA) whatever happened to 'i can do anything as long as I don't harm others'
3) you're not an omniscient person to know whether someone will lead a 'good life' in the future or not... I'm not surprised if you encourage suicide as well
4) it's pointless to argue with people who don't see babies as humans... even potential humans... reminds me of the good ole days of Soviets and nazis

I'm pro-abortion. People make a political issue/philosophical-religious argument about something very complex that is centered around women's health and well-being. If a woman wants to have an abortion it is her decision, her right, her autonomy. Women already have abortions today in some cases. People think that the decriminalization/legalization will cause women to abort babies everywhere all the time, we know that's not what's going to happen. It will not increase abortions like crazy, it will decrease women, mostly poor women, who unfortunately die trying to have an abortion right now. No woman should be prosecuted, humiliated or put in prison because of an abortion. So yeah, pro-abortion all the way!

My thoughts on it is... if u want an abortion then have one (id allow up to 12wks) if u dont agree with abortion then... DONT HAVE ONE. And stop dictating to those who want control over her own body

- +1 y
So ud sacrifice the woman?
- +1 y
No. I'd stop her from killing her child.
Asker+1 yThere is not a human inside her in the first 3 months. You chose torturing woman for 9 months, then maybe a shitty life for that baby. You don't care for anybody, u just wanna decide over women's body.
- +1 y
Well said Asker. Mr Alec n people like him need to stop letting emotions rule their head. I wonder how many pro life fascists are on the pill or have female family and friends on the pill... prob dont even know it works... morons

Why do you get to decide what a human is? That's the same argument that slave-holders used. They're not "real people".
- +1 y
Eh? Ur point makes no sense... decide if its a human? Cud she choose a fish or a cat?
- +1 y
No. Because neither a fish nor a cat is the product of human fertilisation...
- +1 y
She isn't deciding a species. Its her body n she decides what happens in her body... nobody else does.
- +1 y
But you said that you wouldn't allow abortions after 12 weeks. By your logic, you're deciding what women can and can't do with their bodies.
- +1 y
I chose 12 wks cos i do feel there has to b a cut iff point plus if the feotus has to be removed by surgery n can survive outside womb unaided it can be more mentally straining on the woman. So i think 12wks is fine as its done with medical pill. Works same way as normal pill does
- +1 y
So you wouldn't let a 13 week pregnant woman have an abortion. You, a man, are telling women what they can't do WITH THEIR OWN BODIES.
- +1 y
Im not stopping anyone at anytime. If she was 20wks i still think she shud b allowed but by that stage its gonna mentally challenging. I chose 12wks as a cut off point for on demand n over that (with allowances for common sense) after consultation with people who can help her through it
- +1 y
Your answer certainly suggested that you wouldn't allow an abortion after 12 weeks. I think you've shifted your position. Moreover, if the unborn baby isn't really a human, why would killing it be mentally challenging for women? If they haven't done anything immoral, why would it be distressing for them?
- +1 y
My answer suggets nothing... its a text message not a full blown document
Asker+1 yAfter 3 months the fetus stars to "be alive" or whatever. Before that is not a human, it doesn't have feelings. there is no baby. It has to be before the 3 months. READ BEFORE YOU SPEAK.

- +1 y
I'm not disputing one's ability to make a choice but that choice is rooted in morality. Reason and logic can only get you the point of defining what is indisputable. The question surrounding abortion is an ethical one. You can't throw facts and figures at someone and change how they feel about a complex subject like life and where it begins.
Asker+1 yI am not asking if YOU would do an abortion, I don't care if you agree or disagree. The thing here is if you "accept" or if you want it to be legal for those who want to have one, because you know it's not up to you.
+1 yDepends on the reason for the abortion but most of the time yes
114 Reply
Asker+1 yWhy not for everyone who doesn't want a kid? Think about the person who's pregnant, the life that she can give to a child that she didn't even want in the first place, and the suffer she will go through the pregnancy. It's her life let's focus on that. Society shouldn't tell a woman what to do with her body.
- +1 y
Therefor we've adoption.
Asker+1 yThat's just telling women ok you have to go to the pregnancy even if later y won't be the one who raise the child. That's fucked up. Women should decide about their bodies.
- +1 y
The reason I say it depends on the reason is because I disagree with people who have abortions simply because the baby is not the sex they wanted it to be
- +1 y
Most cases aren't rape cases and I support the woman's and the man's right to choose if they wants to have sex or not. If they choose sex, they should use contraception if they don't want pregnancy. People should be careful and take the consequences instead of being careless. It's similar to drunk and drive. It's something called responsibility!
- +1 y
@curiousnorway assuming they did use contraception and it failed, should you still think they should have to go through the pregnancy?
Asker+1 yYeah first of all condoms BREAK anticonceptivos FAIL. The thing here is not why you ended up pregnant. It's about, ok you ARE pregnant, it's your choice what you want to do. No one should decide about women's body.
- +1 y
You can use both contraception pills and condoms. I doubt it would be a high risk then. You could also choose to not penetrate if you're too afraid of pregnancy. Sex is a procreation tool after all.
Nobody should decide over the child's body either. Why is it okay to take away so young children's lives, but not older ones? - +1 y
That's right. It's not okay to kill a child in the womb. It's actually pretty evil.
- +1 y
@curiousnorway sometimes using condoms and pill aren't a possibility but I definitely agree that if pregnancy is that big an issue then you just shouldn't have sex
Asker+1 yYou are not taking a life. You are choosing over your own body. There is no baby.
- +1 y
@Band_Freak, sadly not everyone understands it. Some people lies too much around without caring about the risks!
- +1 y
@curiousnorway not everyone understands what?
- +1 y
Not everyone understands that lying around not being careful isn't a good idea if they don't want to get pregnant. Some sees sex as entertainment instead of procreation.
