Is there any explanation why there are so many "white people" that have naturally tan skin? If you are indeed white (european) is that normal?

I'm not racist or anything but in all honesty I'm curious, why?
I see so many people that have Caucasian face (Caucasian traits) but their skin tone is more like tan/brown-ish, regardless of season or weather.
One example that comes to mind is George Clooney who apparently is Irish, German, but he looks more like middle easterner. Is this normal? if a person is indeed european/white, shouldn't their skin be naturally fair? or else, why are they called white people?

He probably comes from a family of farmers that were in the Sun a lot working so he just adopted that tan color multi generations later. Nothing to do with him being non white or mixed. There are light skinned Africans who got that way because the sun hits their side of the continent sparingly. still 100% black.

I understand some people tan but naturally in the winter you should be more pale...

Don't Forget that the fair Skin is due to a genetic Mutation, so there were darker. skinned People in Europe. I read once that the Romans thought the Picts were swarthy, for example.

Gene pool also had darker people enter it due to Migration.

Well a lot of whites here have natural tan since it's impossible to stay pale in the middle east's hot summer lol

I don't know about George Clooney but many of the white people with melanated skin are of Italian or greek descent. He probably just had ancestors who were in the sun a lot though.
