Males are always more beautiful than females in the animal kingdom?

When looking at animals, it's the males who are better looking. This is in order to help them attract females.

Yet this flips when it comes to humans. Women are the ones who put on makeup and wear fancy clothing in order to be the extravagant looking ones, making men want to approach them.

All human males wear are suits which are boring in comparison

So why is it that with many animals, it's the males who look the best in order to impress the females yet in our society it's the other way around?

Simple enough. Humans, like other primates but even moreso, take forever to fully develop. He aren't prepared to take care of ourselves in the real world until we are much older. Mother's traditionally had to watch the baby constantly and care for it, so being attractive have the man reason to stay around and help feed both you and the baby for many many years until the child can fully care for itself.

For most other mammals, the male needs to spread his genes and birth is easy and effective. You give birth and either the kid is ready to go off and start it's life, or it joins the pack and functions in society

I think it’s humans perverting nature. Human males have beards for example. In many ancient cultures males are more adorned than women and dance around to attract them. I also think a lot of men are naturally attracted to simple looking women who wear natural makeup and don’t over accessorize.

The human needs to do less than a female to be attractive. A simple suit is attractive on a man... but woman needs more shi# to become at a similar level to him.

You don't think you're little biased as (I assume) a straight female? I can admit as a straight male that a man with some muscles and definition can look impressive, but the female form is automatically more visually appealing.

The appearance of animals completely depends on their social structure. If the male has to differentiate himself to appeal to women he will do so but mostly this is not required.

Also assuming you are a straight human male you are physically attracted to human women. Not because they are prettier, that is a separate topic, but because its the body trying to make you "do the right thing". Your concept of beauty is flawed in this case and not shared by for example human women or other species.

All I'm saying is human males don't attempt to look extravagant in order to attract human females like many other species do. Rather women are the one's who play the looks game in order to attract the opposite sex.

I'm attracted to women who are pretty. The less pretty women don't tend to have as much attention from men.

Human men and women really do not do much to attract each other at all and we look very similar in fact. This is the normal in most species to my knowledge. The reason you find women looks better is completely unrelated since you are an unreliable source because your body forces you to feel they are prettier.

I think a non-trivial amount of straight women would still tell you that women are the better looking sex in our species. I've heard it from quite a few. I've heard even more comments about how straight women "check out" other women, though that specific comment could be partially explained as "checking out the competition." Yet as a man I don't "check out the competition." I don't find men pleasant to look at at all. Not all men will agree with me on that, but again I believe a lot would.

@holograph As I said, thats a whole other subject related to how much women both spend in money and time to make themselves look prettier or more presentable but it has nothing to do with genetics.

Yeah you're right. I think spiders and insects are a whole different ball game aren't they. Like the Queen ant and bee and all that. The females tend to dwarf the males.

Maybe because males are more dominant in the animal kingdom.
The appearance shows dominance, therefore a perfect mate.
Humans just don’t care about that and since us women are jealous creatures, we compete with beauty.
