Mossberg 500 vs Remington 870, which do you like more?

I love both, but I like the 500 more because the lever stays up when you load which keeps me from getting my finger caught like the 870 does a lot and it's very sharp, so I've cut my finger many times while loading an 870. I like the fact that it's easier to get extensions on the 870 and you can use mini shells in it (can't with the 500 because they fall through the lever, but don't quote me on it), and a smoother pump action. Although I'd rather just buy the shotgun fitted with a magazine tube that has the capacity I want, as I did when I bought a Maverick 88, which is a budget version of the 500. Which do you like more?

The 870. Both are great shotguns. I don’t think one is really any better in performance or quality than the other. I prefer the 870 because it’s the most mass produced shotgun in the world if I’m not mistaken. The U. S. military used it as their standard shotgun before switching to the 500. Pretty much every police department and corrections department in the U. S. has or does use it, as well as multitudes of hunters, and trap shooters. I like it because of it being so mass produced parts and accessories are readily available and cheap.

I'll say the 870, but only because it's the only one of the two I have owned and it was fine for an inexpensive pump gun. But I sold it years ago and bought an over/under and never looked back. For what I use it for, its much better. My current gun is a Browning Cynergy 12 gauge.

I've got a maverick 88 as well and it's been alright. Starting to have issues where the firing pin isn't actually setting off the shell but that might just be that I'm not racking it hard enough.

The 870 is a better all around weapon. I've hunted everything thats walked, creeped, or crawled through Pennsylvania with this gun.

870 because there are aftermarket mods and parts out the ass for it

The 870s are definitely better guns, but I prefer the forward-back safety on Mossbergs to the side to side switch
