Never owned a browning but I had a colt m1911A I wish I still had it because it's impressive and rare now adays. But the lack of really good safety mechanisms is why I let it go 30 years ago.
I am thinking of purchasing an auto this summer. The Browning was one of the ones I looked at so I will go wit that. I am ne familiar with the Colt,

I would rather not have any weapons. I am against violence and owning either one of them is just calling for more violence. Furthermore, they are US made and that is a deterrent because of the general low quality of their arms.
If I was forced to own a weapon then it would be a European make such as a Swiss SIG Sauer P226, an Austrian Glock 19 or an Italian Beretta M9. We are talking quality and reliability here.
I am blessed to live in a country where owning firearms is against the law and I would certainly never own one. I have no urge to kill people.
Pretty sure the Browning originally was British
Neither. An H&K MK23.Available with 10 or 12 round magazines. 13 rounds with one under the hammer. 5.20 inch polygonal barell. Match grade accuracy. Built to ridiculous standards. Comfy with low recoil. About 2 lbs loaded. Glove friendly. Compatible with a wide range of 45 ACP ammunition from subsonic to +P.

Having used both extensively, the 1911. The heavy double action trigger of current Hi Power models doesn’t do it for me. Frankly I would prefer a CZ 75 over it and even over the Sig 226. The lower profile of the upper receive just gives it a better balance and slightly faster sight recovery.
Not legal here but the M1911 has been good for a century now
Always recall selling a deactivated Polish variant from WW2, would have liked that but at a full months wages it wasn't to be
Browning Hi power. Im a 9mm guy for starters.
A society that doesn't obsess about lethal weapons in an unhealthy way would be best. No one needs lethal weapons in a civilised society.
Another example of the armed American Madhouse !!!
