I'm gonna go with the former on this one simply because we're being told that we can't criticize her just for being a teenager. Well shouldn't teenagers be in school? Also she uses plastic forks and spoons like the hypocrite that she is.

When kids are dying of poverty, wars, human trafficking, etc. and then a privileged Scandinavian girl says the world is robbing her of her dreams, then what should an impoverished girl from Africa, Syria, Iraq, (you name it) say? That said, she’s a child and is definitely being used but also she obviously was raised in an atmosphere that is very conducive to her being what she is.
Yes climate change is real. Yes, the left is using her. Yes, the right isn’t better either. Be moderate people. Keep an open mind but not too open your brain falls out but also not too closed it rots.

My opinion? She is coached by her parents, most likely her father, but she's not a political pawn, IMHO. She aligns herself for 100% with the environmental cause, and can do so with the help of more liberal / progressive movements as well as with more conservative and right-leaning movements. She teamed also up with Arnold Schwarzenegger, a confirmed republican.

To me she's a person with a cause, a cause amplified by a mental condition on the autism spectrum. If you here her on climate change details you can see that she worked with the topic now for years, she's not a 'pawn' who plays a pre-recorded message over and over w/o understanding it. She lives for this topic, where another 16y old could know all characters and attitudes of all player from Fortnite.

To me, painting her as a troll, or a pawn from the political left is a sign that you've missed the key point she tries to make. Climate change will affect us all, whatever political direction you're affiliated with. I'm not putting her on a pedestal, or consider her to be 'all knowing' but she's a teenager with an aim in life. That's more than most kids from her kids can show. She could also have been a young adult.

Greta is a sign of the time, times where many things go down the drain, people become more and more polarized, and _many_ people disklike Greta _because_ she's an vocal cirtic. They only focus on the attitude, not the issue she's talking about. She could yell at people and say that a meteor is approaching earth, and still people would mock her because it's a 16y old girl.

Don't shoot the messenger because you don't like the message.

Focus on the the meteor, not on Greta. Something she repeats over and over again too.

I think she's both. I think she knows a fair bit about all of this for a teenager (just because they don't usually taught very much about the finer points of these things) and it'd be difficult for her to verify all of her information too since she doesn't have a research background and she's a lot smarter than her parents (it happens). But compared to all of the regular adult aged researchers who are just as passionate and just as well spoken, they pick this little girl who staged a protest on her own to be a representative at this summit? I know of dozens of people who have done exactly the same as she did for a whole range of causes with nothing more than a 'thanks for your effort' for the respective organizations but all of a sudden this adorable girl is in front of the UN **as an informed representative** and there's *no* ulterior motive there? Whatsoever?

I think now that she's in the limelight she should have a team of trained professionals to support her, give her speech ideas, actions she can take part in or stir up & big environmental scandals going on she should be aware of because like it or not, she does have an impact & people want to listen to what she has to say. If she can be passing on what *is* true & ways that people can make a difference in their everyday life as well as in the political sphere there can probably be just enough change to keep things well balanced. One thing is for sure, big companies are *terrified* of her XD

She's neither. She's a particularly successful (in terms of getting her message around) teen activist. Teen activists are generally passionate, ideologically pure with no nuance, etc. And like almost all activists, she has no interest in actually worrying about implmenting solutions, rather just pushing the overton window.

Like virtually everything else, her image becomes a pawn for different sides to use as a battleground for their culture war.

Most right wing parties are really dropping the ball, in my recent national election a lack of climate plan was a major reason the right wing party couldn't break through into the big suburban swing voting electorate they need. It's also absolutely correct that some on the left are using climate change as an excuse to argue for nationalizing the economy. Carbon tax and dividend and get the fuck out of the way of the market should be what right wing parties are pushing.

I don't think she is a fraud. She truly believes in her cause and the cause is valid. There is no question that human activity, from pollution to forest and ocean devastation, is causing climate change. Climate change is indicated by rising ocean temperatures, sea level rise and changing climate patterns. The Earth is finite and we can't keep bulldozing the lungs of the planet while dumping shit into the air and water without consequence.
However, once she gained local notoriety, some nefarious, big money players started backing her and using her to promote their own agendas. I get suspicious whenever big money gets involved.

She is an inspiring hero since I was doing none of what she has already accomplished at the age of 16. Also its important to realize that the people who invented the light bulb was working underneath candlelight. Just because people are forced to work with what they have or what is readily available to them does not mean that they are hypocrites. She had no experience in the world, no accomplishments under her belt for actually helping out the environment, and she expects people to pay attention to her just because she skips school. There is little evidence supporting it. She is however in a very unusual position as such a young individual and her speeches seem too well crafted to be written by her.
I don't think she is a political pawn but I do believe she is likely being used as a puppet by environmental activists, or at the very least her parents, to promote their agenda.

That all being said, I think the general work that she is doing, regardless of who is the real mastermind, is good and hopefully will make a difference.
