I think that it's totally inappropriate. The situation in China is very serious, they have got bird flu as well. If corona virus would mix with bird flu it would become much more dangerous. Instead of laughing at Chinese we should think how to help them. Chinese people living in China don't even have masks to protect themselves. I think I may send several packs of 3M masks to my friend living in China

Well, they are pretty funny, especially the food one lol. China's going to keep getting attention and diseases will keep coming out as long as they have so many areas that are most densely populated. It wouldn't matter if they put in an apparatus equivalent to the CDC, FDA, and USDA all balled up into one, with better funding and more power.

When you densely populate and area with anything living, diseases affecting that creature run rampant and mutate. In the 1800's that would have been England. Maybe India will reproduce and become more densely populated, a country in Africa, maybe in the US snowflakes will suddenly get horny and pull out IUDs en masse and we'll have a higher population density in 20 years.

Either way, China will stay on top of where diseases come from as long as it is the most densely populated country of humans on the planet. Let's say Hong Kong spread out, and Russia concentrated everyone into St. Petersburg, then you'd see more diseases coming out of St. Petersburg.

The true irony would be that you're wearing a SARs mask in your profile picture... lol

I think jokes and humour are fine no matter what the situation is so long as it's clearly a joke even in bad taste. I used to write a lot of dark jokes as part of a joke community and a lot of people wrote jokes without issues, others just wrote intensely racist paragraphs because they thought it would be funny or that because it's a subject of humour that actual racism would be seen as relatable by the others in the community. Which isn't the case. I mean recently the videos of people covering their faces on the train because someone is Asian? That's not a joke and it is racism, especially since anyone can get the virus. Beyond that if you make the jokes you have to be willing to accept them back otherwise it's being hypocritical, I don't really mind people making jokes about being Irish, white or mental health issues that i've went through. But I do dislike real ignorance about those subjects, people do revel in real problems and there's a difference.

I'm really torn in this. Humor is most peoples response to fear or anxiety, of which the coronavirus invokes both. Is it racist to single out an entire race and make jokes about them? Of course. Is it a natural coping method that most people switch to? Yes. While it may not necessarily be what is 'ok', neither are half the memes to begin with. I think if you know not to take them too seriously and actually educate yourself on the topic first, it's okay. Everyone needs a little humor now and then and this just so happens to be the new it. Just like ww3 memed or like the Russian ones - it just happens.

If most people are screwed, best to go out with a sense of humor.

There is no cure. It may have been bio-engineered. It may have been a local population test that got out of control (infectng other parts of the world). Too early to tell. Chinese government is hiding things, WHO is hiding things and the media is reading from scrpts.

You have to watch the leaked personal videos coming out of Chna from doctors, nurses and people in the infected areas to see what's happening.

I hate how some people despise those who laugh at dark humor. If anything, the vast majority of jokes follow the same structure

Check out the Benign Violation theory, it explains why dark humor is hilarious.

In short, it shocks us with a blatant violation of social norms but we then laugh because we realized there is no actual threat.

I personally don’t agree because I laugh because there are people brave enough to find a way to transcend all the fucked up things that happen in our lives to see the absurdity behind it.

It's not even that big of an outbreak. The ordinary Influenza A virus kills about 50 times as many people in the U. S. alone every year as this virus has merely sickened. It's only killed a few dozen people so far.
