I am not an expert but in short, the Kurds see themselves different from the Turks and want their own independent country which would mean turkey has to give up a region of land, similar to Tibet wants to be independent from China.

Espacially under Recep Erdogan the Kurds are opressed and persecuted, thrown into prison and driven out of turkey into exile.
