Do you think pedophiles and rapists deserve the death penalty?

Myself and my colleagues at work today were discussing the death penalty and if it is warranted. I personally think it is for cold blooded murders, pedos and rapists and there's no justification for such crimes and its cheaper than charging the tax payer to keep them alive.
But others think its inhumane.

It's why neither of you will be a prosecutor, or judge. You're both ill informed on the subject.

In a democracy there is a big problem around the subject of "killing". Sure we give veterans medals for doing it on our behalf. But there are plenty of legal loopholes like culpable deniability that democracies can get away with in regard to the military.

But doing it on your own citizens means the laws need to have provisions for it. You cannot have humans rights and citizens rights, while at the same time killing them for breaking laws. That circle cannot be squared, and it's why democracies are always high crime countries. They cannot administer death to citizens, while offering them freedom of expression and civil liberties.

It's like saying you can beat your child near death, but only if you take them to Disney world after.

You would think its cheaper and such but its not. There are 3 main problems why the death penalty never makes any sense.

1: Its actually more expensive than life in prison.
2: There is no way to ensure the criminal you execute is actually the guilty one and innocent people are regularly executed already.
3: The government should not be in the business of killing its own citizens.

Beyond that I also think rehabilitation is the way to go but even if you dont, its just easier to put them in prison for life.

Difficult topic because pedophilia in itself is considered a disorder, rape with all these fake accusations and what not would also be difficult to determine + a life hasn't actually been taken. I have a pretty strict opinion on such matters but won't say more because many people refuse to put aside personal experiences and biased views when it comes to these discussions.

I don't believe in the death penalty mostly because our system is not infallible. It isn't that I personally lose sleep over shitty people dying, but more so that the criminal justice system is too flawed. We have certainly executed innocent people. As an aside, keeping someone imprisoned for life is much less expensive on tax payers than the death penalty.

Based on the Mary P. Koss claim that 25% of college girls are raped, her definitions of rape include, "Have you ever has sex when you didn't want to because the guy used some degree of force?" and "Have you ever had sex after being given alcohol or drugs?" In fact, 27% of the college girls did not agree with Mary P. Koss that they were raped and about half were still dating their rapists.

Based on the many so-called definitions of rape, I cannot see how rape deserves the death penalty.

raping an adult

What do we do with those who view child porn?
Is all child porn the same? obviously not.

How do we handle perpetrators who are under 18?
What if a 14 year old takes photos of a 16 year old?
What if a ten year old molests a nine year old?

We have a lot of decisions to make before we start killing them off

If the claims are legit and their is legit proof then death or life in prison. Where it is a cell block of them and all the others like them. So they can did it to each other. But also put them on public record so if they manage to get out. Public knows to avoid them.

Terrible as their crimes are I think paedophilia is the result of server mental problems and we'd be better off intervening before they commit them. As for rapists it seems that even smiling at a girl without consent constitutes rape these days so I'm not sure that's a path we should be going down.

For cp all somebody has to do is hack some on to your PC and submit an anonymous tip.

For a false rape conviction all it takes is one chick who feels like getting back at you for something to drag your name through the mud.

Well it's wrong to murder anybody, even murderers. Plus there have ben soooo many people killed that later turned out to be innocent, it's not worth the risk. It's also less civilized to have the death penalty. Look at countries that have it: Yemen, Somalia, Saudi Arabia, China... oh and the USA in some states.
