What to do about roommate who won’t do their part in the household chore?

Lazy roommate

My two roommates and I came up with a chore chart where we each do the dishes/take out the trash for a week. Every Friday, we switch turns. However, one of my roommates will let the dishes pile up in the sink until Friday, which is technically my turn, but that’s not fair to me. So obviously talking and coming up with a chore chart didn’t work, so what should I do?

It’s my week to do the dishes/take out the trash, but since my roommate left those dishes in the sink for 3 days (during her week), would it be fair for me to ask her to continue doing the dishes for 3 more days?

Have you confronted your roommate about it? If you don’t say anything then they might think you are okay with it. Back in uni, my roommates and I washed our own dishes the same day we used them. That was the rule because it’s nasty to let dishes pile up for days.

I’ve talked to her once about it. She said that it’s her ADHD... to me, that’s not an excuse for not cleaning up after yourself.

Yeah people with ADHD have no problem cleaning up after themselves. I think you should try changing the rules to wash dishes right after use.

Get rid of most of the dishes. Use paper plates/bowls and cups instead or sell them to your roommates as needed, say when they refuse to do the dishes. Only have 4 of each utensil. Bigger cookware you only really need about five items: Pot, frying pan, baking tray, pizza tray and a casserole dish. Limit it to only the essentials that way it has to be washed if someone uses it. If they don't clean them then just do likewise and put it back in the sink how you found it.

First of all don’t get roommates if at all possible? If you have to then you put yourself in the
Position of responsibility, such as the Bills being paid are on YOU. Slacker and they are gone!

Sorry I didn’t clarify, but we live on campus, so not having roommates was not an option

Sorry I have no idea what living on campus is like. Is it free as in no rent, utilities etc. and they are just
Plain lazy? Some people are wired that way and will never reach their full potential.

That's why I hated few months I spent in shared apartment. It ended up everyone went to eat out, because little princesses were too fine to degrade themselves to someone who cleans their own dreck.
Interesting was that the one who got less contracts and sat mostly in this apartment, was an anti-talent in everything. If she had to clean 5 platters and 10 glasses it took her at least 5 hours and vacuuming of her room was a task like a mission to mars.

Can just play the who ever is more stubborn but tbh if your roommate is the one who will win that. Then this wouldn't work.

Put the dishes on their bed 😌 it's what I did. When they bring them out you say "ah you may as well wash them now".

Hide the dirty dishes in their room. Not all in on place either. Make some more obvious than others.
