No but the professional scammers who rent a place and stop paying rent are. The landlord loses money while the possibly lengthy eviction process proceeds. Some people do this for a living getting to stay in a place for 6 months while only paying for 1 month's rent before they get evicted. On the other side there are definitely slumlords who take advantage of poor people who let them stay as long as they don't complain about the cockroaches and lack of heat or other non working items.
A slumlord is an investor who buys and rents out properties with substandard living conditions. These rental properties often fail to meet the most basic of housing standards and pose a risk to the health and safety of their tenants.
Why, because they expect their property to be taken care of?
Because they inflate the price of property making it harder for people to buy property so they have to turn to renting.
Actually those prices are based on a number of factors and aren’t inflated by the owner of the property many things are taken into account to determine the price of a property... and might I remind you that they themselves paid for the property at the same price it’s being offered to you for...
Your just coming across as a sore loser in my eyes... no offence
You're much kinder than I am. LOL
Someone has to own the property, all you have to do to see when the state doles out the housing is read about any communist history or visit a section 8 subsidized housing area. Bottom line private property owners provide higher standards for their tenants because they take care of the property out of their own self interest and have to compete with fellow landlords for providing the best experience at lowest price.
They also inflate the prices making it harder to own property in the first place. Also competition encourages people to deceive more than provide a quality product.
How does it inflate prices? If anything rental property deflates home prices because rentals usually cater to lower class people who sell drugs, drink, promotes criminal activity, and have parties all the time. No one wants to live in an area like that.
Yeah, because they are forcing you at gunpoint to rent from them. Your argument that they drive up property prices is bunk:
there's will only the same number of asses that need to hit a mattress every night. The demand for housing is directly related to population.
Driving up housing prices would benefit 100 million homeowners anyway

Landlords are people trying to make a buck like the rest of us. Some can be assholes but you can say that about any demographic.
I wonder where 40 million people would live without these 'parasites'.
Yeah, cause that's how it works. The second you eliminate landlords all the poor people are magically gonna be financially stable enough to afford a place of their own.
Nope. Just the corporate ones.
Most are mom and pops trying to shore up their pension.
Nah, people just say that when they’re too lazy to pull their own weight
Even without a landlord they'd have to pay mortgages but landlords inflate the price of property.
Supply and demand inflates the price, unfortunately whether you rent or buy in a desirable area you’re gonna pay way too much.
If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. Real estate is a great way to invest
Actually, rental properties cut the value of properties and that is why homeowners hate having a bunch of vacation rentals in their community.
Anything landlords due could be accomplished by a system of housing coops.
Ultimately supply and demand is what influences the market. Personally I’d rather real estate be in private hands than big corporations and government
I see successful people as inspiration, not the enemy. Just different attitudes I guess
For me that depends on how they got successful.
No they are not. Supply and demand determines the cost of rent. If a landlord is asking for $3000/ and no one can afford that price, he'll have to drop his price. Basic econ
But it is a racket. Buy a condo apartment for an $80k mortgage. Worst that happens is you sell it for a few grand less. At least you ain’t throwin money away to a renter.
Fuck I’d love a condo for 80k. Try 800 here
@Redstang88 where are you? There’s good deals all over. Just saying renting is literally flushing money away.
Are you homeless or some kind of sovereign citizen? Or maybe you're dumb enough to own a home.
John, don't you get tired of living in a tent in state parks? A slumlord's apartment would be a step up for you. *rolls eyes*
@Daniela1982 I live in an apartment with utilities covered. Because I'm not dumb enough to be the group of suckers during the next housing bubble collapse.
Don't you realize that when housing is scarce they can raise your rent to meet the supply/demand? I lived in an apartment and they kept raising the rent. So I finally bought my own house. If you own a house no one can raise your rent.
@Daniela1982 you realize that if you find a decent landlord that won't happen? I've been living in the same apartment for 10+ years and my landlord only raised my rent once. It's not a problem at all if you shop around and be smart about where you choose to live.
You know as well as I that costs for everything has gone through the roof. If a landlord hasn't raised rent in 10 years he must own the place outright and is comfortable with the amount coming in. But everything wears down while prices go up. If he has to replace a roof or update an apartment that is still in the 80's decor it is going to cost a bundle with the cost of labor and building materials. So you are one of the lucky ones. You try and get a 2 BR apartment now and it will cost you $1,800 a month. Just wait until your landlord sells the place or dies. I guarantee you your rent will go up dramatically. Your option then will be to pay it or move.
@Daniela1982 IF that does happen, my option will be to find a similar situation and shop around. I'm not like the rest of these idiots who moves into the first place I find. I always check to see what kind of person I'm doing business with.
I doubt the landlords in Smith's day had the obligations to their tenants they do in modern times.
I don’t know about all landlords but my landlord kinda is. Doesn’t work just collects rent.
Maybe he is retired. You always have the option of moving.
@Daniela1982 SHE is currently in between jobs. She spends too much time doing yoga meditation and lecturing about ecofeminism and anti-modernism instead of finding a job. Also she’s an immigrant from Germany so that complicates some things but still doesn’t stop her from doing menial jobs she just considers them beneath her. So instead I and my roommates pay for her no job life to practice yoga and preach about eco-living 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻
Yes I’m very actively trying to move.
Wait, is she your landlord or your room mate?
@Daniela1982 she’s both unfortunately :( she’s spouting her new age nonsense right now while I’m trying to enjoy my evening sigh... I want to move so bad
Yeap
rentoid seething 😪
