If people keep making a distinction between race and skin color does that perpetuate racism?

Don't shoot me down for this I just wonder why people don't campaign for all lives matter and then all humans no matter what race or color can be involved. Black lives matter still makes a segregation. What about Asians do their lives matter too?

The goal of any of these "XXXXXXX lives matter " is to call attention to a particular people-group. The problem is that- whether intended or not- this is still perpetuating obvious differences between people, rather than building on the similarities. Maybe if they devoted just 10% of the time they spend picketing, stopping traffic, etc. to helping others, they might just find they will be getting better results for their "cause".

I like discovering differences with and among people I meet: I do NOT the government explaining to me what constitutes a valid/invalid "difference", and what my actions should be, just as they shouldn't dictate what "hot" water in my washing machine should be! My actions are that - MY actions. Each week at our church Food Pantry, I interact with (people of ) any number of nationalities, skin tones, educational levels, poverty levels, ambition levels, etc. Some of them in each category I like, and some in each category I don't. But that "unlike" is in response to their feeling "entitled" to the food (they aren't), that somehow it's our "job" to get them the food (it isn't), demanding an "extra this or that", and the "like" is in response to them saying "thank you", and following the few rules we have (one box per car so all can share, and don't act like an ass sums it up pretty well). It is never in response to a guest having this skin tone, using that language, or even driving over in their PJ's (it happens).

The BLM movement is bringing prejudicial behavior to light, specifically concerning law enforcement practices and the criminal justice system within the USA.

Letting everyone know the police disproportionately treat your differently because of your skin color is not perpetuating racism, that is exposing it.

Also, BLM is not saying that other lives do not matter, they're saying that black lives matter as well, and that black lives have not been treated with the same sanctity as other lives, particularly within the USA.

They are not claiming to understand other peoples' struggles, and they are not claiming that other peoples' struggles are irrelevant, rather they are bearing witness to an issue that they cannot deny, nor ignore. They know that the criminal justice system, from the streets to the jails, has glaring issues, and these issues largely interact with the black community on a large scale.

It's the same reasons why the women's suffrage movement had little or nothing to do with coal miner's rights, or why the American Revolutionary War had nothing to do with the Chinese imperial court. People are dealing with the problems in front of them.

But what does BLM ask for… Black only hospitals, black only schools and colleges. Black only spaces on current college campuses. If you want to really think about it, the biggest modern slavery would be Asians, whether East, South East Asia that comes to mind first, or the Middle East for human trafficking. Following that is Africa. Though every country today still has human trafficking for sex, labor, and military personnel. The biggest difference is whether the state actually takes part in the trade, turns a blind eye, or tries to stop it.

The US and UK abolished slavery much earlier than many other countries, fought, and continue to fight to keep that practice from coming back. The biggest argument for BLM, or any difference between whites and blacks is slavery and systemic racism, despite how Irish and Italians were treated coming to America.

Anyway, back to your question, BLM is bullshit, ALM is a boot-licker trying to pander to that bullshit. Black people aren't special snowflakes, That's what the special people in your life are for. I could care less if some people commit more crime and get shot more, regardless of if they're black or white. When I stopped comitting crimes and resisting arrest, miracle of miracles, I stopped getting arrested and getting my ass kicked by cops.

Cops aren't supposed to be strippers who tickle your willie until you get in the car. They see a crime, or have a warrant for arrest, they execute it in a way that keeps them out of danger, because not many people want to be first responders.

There will be racism all around the world no matter where you go some race will be targeted. The BLM is just one that people tend to focus more on and I guess has become a trend to follow even if you don’t know all the facts about what’s going on so if you don’t follow it then you’re hated.

The concept of Race-blindness never came out of POC spaces. It came out of white spaces as a way of dealing with racism without confronting the ways they perpetuate it or the ways generational and institutional oppression. If somebody says they “don’t see color” I personally stay tf away from them. It’s like a red flag for racism, because race influences every interaction with the world to some extent. And ignoring that ignoring people’s struggles.

Also, racism isn't prejudice. Prejudice is prejudice. Racism is prejudice that actively oppressed a group of people based on some racial construct. That’s why it’s literally impossible to be racist towards a white person, but you can be prejudiced against them.

Also, the goal of Black Lives Matter isn’t to have everybody agree. We simply don’t live in that kind of society right now. All lives matter is a term to belittle the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement. We started the BLM movement to bring awareness to the simple fact that black people suffer racism more than any other race (minus white people; you can’t oppress the oppressor). Black Lives Matter isn’t used to get the focus on black lives only, but to bring awareness to the simple fact that we’re tired of our brothers and sister being harmed and mistreated because of our darker skin. Black people are at the bottom of the pyramid of races, while everyone else gets a head start before us (Please make sure you know all of the African American history before bashing me). People of color (POC) really get treated poorly as well, it isn’t unfair and it’s inhumane. Black people are always stereotyped for no reason and in most cases when police use it, a black person gets killed, Sometimes innocent people. It’s heartbreaking that I have to worry when dealing with the law enforcement because of my darker skin. I shouldn’t have to be afraid just because my skin tone is chocolate and not a Caucasian proffered tone. So yes, All Lives Matter, but at the same time, Black people are the main ones (and the for the longest timeframe, 400 years and counting) to suffer from the likeliness of modern day racism. It's a historical fact a small number of the worlds blacks had a rough time with slavery but we forget the lower white classes weren't treat much better. Countless white children perished in cotton mills working with slave picked cotton yet they're largely forgotten. That was in the distant past and now both races have the same education and employment opportunities. Neither do we have separate laws for black and white. They’re basically promoting a cause - as blacks have a history of being segregated, disenfranchised, slaved, oppressed and stereotyped. For a long time, they were considered the inferior race and treated as such by being stripped away of basic rights and freedoms. A lot of this is so much better in 2021, however there are still instances of systemic oppression and racism that occur. For example, blacks face a lot more stereotypes than whites during things like basic shopping sprees and in the criminal justice system.

The reason they don’t say all lives matter is because it is too broad. No one really understands the point or cause they are trying to promote. They are trying to highlight injustices faced by the black community. There are other problems and injustices faced in the world by other people as well - however they are individually focusing on a cause to promote more attention to it. The best example is when someone is advocating for breast cancer research and funding. There are other types of cancers that exist and need attention, however they are tackling one task at a time to gain more individual awareness and to educate more specifically.

All lives do matter in the grand scheme of things. No race or ethnicity is better than another. However, unarmed black people are disproportionately killed by police. That’s a fact backed up by observable data. It’s been a shameful fact throughout our nation’s history. When you have a disparity like that, I think it’s ok to have a movement that focuses just on that issue. Tackling a pervasive problem doesn’t mean that other lives don’t matter.
