3.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Well, these are actually still early days - and, truth in advertising, I speak here as a Republican who was not a Trump fan and did not vote for him in 2016, but did not support Mr. Biden. However, so far, Mr. Biden's presidency has been, at best, underwhelming.
Indeed, so far, Mr. Biden has, in terms of style, not been unlike Mr. Trump. Albeit where Mr. Trump was bombastic, Mr. Biden has been peevish. Verbal gaffes. Partisan divides. No identifiable policy agenda. If anything, Mr. Biden has been more prolific with the Executive Orders than Mr. Trump ever was - with even the New York Times telling Mr. Biden to slow things down.
In any case, Mr. Biden has attempted to portray himself as a more unifying force than Mr. Trump. However, to date, it has not proved to be the case. The most unifying moment being when President Biden received ten moderate Republican Senators at the White House. They all came out speaking of compromise on a COVID bill.
Then - a mere 48 hours later - the President came out with a statement saying that the Republicans were free to sign on to the COVID bill and maybe there would be a agreement on a few secondary points. Translation - "Let's compromise. Do it my way." This being repeated, albeit with a bit more tact, in the recent negotiations on an infrastructure bill. Albeit that as Mr. Biden's own party is not unified on the question, he will end up compromising in some sense.
Not impressive. Throw in Mr. Biden's Trump-like penchant for name calling. See also his calling the decision by the Governors of Texas and Mississippi to end their state's COVID mask requirements. Neglecting that 14 states never had any such requirements, Mr. Biden chose to call the Governor's "Neanderthal thinking." This in the best tradition - or worst, according to taste - of Trump-like vitriol.
Suffice to say, at least in terms of style, if the American public had grown weary of Mr. Trump's lack of diplomacy, it would appear that all they got was more of the same, perhaps more quietly articulated. Though again, to repeat, more peevish than bombastic. See also Mr. Biden's annoyed response when a reporter had the effrontery to ask him if he should not upgrade his goals for COVID vaccine injections.
As to the aforementioned Executive Orders, it was probably not a good idea to sign the first one on inauguration day eliminating the Keystone pipeline. Whatever the merits of the policy - and they are debatable - wiping out 4000 high paying union jobs your first day on the job is not exactly good PR. Even Mr. Trump at his most obtuse was not that tone deaf.
To this must be added the rising problems on the southern border. Mr. Biden's goal seems to have been to wipe out any of Mr. Trump's policies just because they were Mr. Trump's policies and not because of any substantive policy differences. The result has been policy for its own sake without any defining rationale or purpose.
Hence now, in the case of immigration, a rising problem that need not have been. With a surge of unaccompanied minors crossing the border - an eye popping 64% increase over last year. When questioned on this, the President's new Secretary of Homeland Security tragicomically announced that the rising tide of immigrants were welcome to come - just please not yet. It is babblingly incoherent to say no more.

Finally add in Mr. Biden's foreign policy. At worst, he does not appear to have one. At best, he seems to believe - as the former President he most resembles seemed to believe - that if you be nice to people they will forego their national interests and be nice to you. Mr. Biden does not seem to understand that the international arena - NOTE: "arena" and not "community - is the realm of Machiavelli and not Mother Teresa. Such thinking got Mr. Carter the Iran hostage crisis and the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. It remains to be seen what it will buy Mr. Biden.
Put it all together and it has not been an auspicious start. Mr. Biden is a bland and unremarkable figure of no discernible views or philosophy. The directionless and haphazard nature of his first months in office amplifying the point. It is to be hoped - without much real optimism - that there is better to come. - +1 y
In general, he is just a $$-splurging baby killing Communist, and maybe he should have been, too. Him and every other in his party.

He cheated in the election, which makes him a criminal, and he doesn't even know how to run a country. He's destroyed our world, our lives, our families. I have a feeling that he PLANNED COVID-19 to get trump to get the virus and get him sick. Then he would start the terrible America Demolition and it worked. Despite what many say, I know most people are just biased and ignore all the flaws of which would get a president hated. However for some reason, Biden is just better overall because he’s a Democrat. I honestly didn’t really care who would win, because it made no difference to me. The world will move on and I’m sure we’ll survive the next four years, regardless of who sits in the White House. I’m usually not on anyone’s side, I’m always in the middle when it comes to politics and presidents.

@Interstate Literally everything is recorded, all his shenanigans, his handling of George Lloyd and Covid situation for example and him continuing to run his ignorant mouth. Him refusing to accept defeat graciously like every single president before him and instead acting like a sore loser. Not to mention attack on capitol hill, which Trump refused to condemn, refused to tell them to go him, his daughter Ivanka coming up and down for 7 hours to convince him.
All they have to do is run that video, and that's it. Trump is finished, he lost by 7 million votes for a reason, millennials voted for Biden at even higher percentage than Clinton.
Its time to move on, all imbecile did was damage Republican brand, and republicans WILL make sure Trump doesn't run in 2024, its a guarantee. - +1 y
@Oram52 Don't you think that is a bit of a stretch? I mean with the Republicans turning on their own kind? Let's say he is the only Republican who runs, next to Biden again and another Demo... I can't see them caving in to let Biden "win" again. The last I understood, even the Demos in certain circumstances aren't so supportive with our Commander in Chief. Look at the current catastrophe... pulling our troops out too soon, and letting Isis prevail over there. The ENTIRE country (ours) is shaking their head at him and rolling their eyes.
Then he made the comment about how the takeover wasn't supposed to occur until the end of the year. - +1 y
@Interstate Republicans are already split, Republicans have also realized their base isn't sufficient enough on their own to win, and who exactly are Trump supporters going to vote for if not Republican?
The planning is already underway, there is clear consensus among Republicans they will lose 2024 if Trump runs again. Keep in mind Trump lost against BIDEN by 7 million votes, Biden who clearly isn't that popular. Yet election saw one of the highest voter turn out 65% solely to oust Trump.
My hypothesis is Republicans will use same strategy as Democrats, in that Democrats put forward clear candidate against Sanders during Primaries. Republicans will do the same - they will put forward clear candidate against Trump or anyone he supports. I don't personally think Trump will run again, he has no credibility and no chance.
But whoever Trump supports Republicans will make sure someone CLEAR challenges. Republicans can't win without Independent and Millennial vote, Biden even won 47% off votes in Texas.
There is NO way Trump is running 2024, he had his time, he lost, and Republican Party has no interest. Its a guarantee.

Biden is a fool and a puppet of the liberal left, His policies are dragging down this country. He has over stimulated the economy which has caused inflation and many people don't want to go back to work because they are getting free money that's more profitable than working. He has also created a Hugh mess on the southern boarder. I understand trying to get off of fossil fuels, but that draconian approach he has take has hurt the country. You need to wean the country off of it while putting in place its replacement. The replacement for fossil fuels is not fully in place, yet he started cutting off the countries energy independence in one fell swoop. His policies are very near sighted and in many cases, extremely foolish. Anyone who claims he is doing better than Trump, has really not done there homework. He is a worthless leader!!!

A lot of good decision making so far, but also quite a few disappointments. Overall more positive than negative at least.
The most relieving thing about his presidency is for sure is that there's finally again some sane type of communication with the press. No constant name calling, not mocking of others, no butthurtness over every little criticism, no dismissing of critical questions. He and Jen Psaki actually answer questions like normal, sane, GROWN UP people. No delusional megalomania and narcissism like with Trump. Just normal adult and respectful behavior. I've really missed that. So yeah, that's something at least.10 Reply2.5K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I haven't really seen enough of him to give a full assessment. I think he held it together ok when he was vice president under Obama. I can't remember many major mishaps and when it comes to vice presidents, that is usually a good sign.
All I know about him is he is very old and he seems to understand the importance of taking action on climate change. I've also seen him placing emphasis on American manufacturing. If he actually can get America manufacturing and using clean energy to do it, he could potentially create a very viable economy for the future. Whether he achieves that or not is one thing but what he does on the other issues matter too.
It's still a "watch this space" (if you'll excuse the hackneyed expression) situation at the moment.10 ReplyHe's an old doddered who's not in control with a crackhead son. He perfectly represents why Democracy is a failed ideology. If trump was in office, we'd bounce back from covid twice as fast, there wouldn't be a border crisis, and Palestine wouldn't have attacked Israel. More than half the nation votes however the media tells them to, so that's how we wind up with someone who can barely speak a coherent sentence on occasion.

Well, ya see, there are these two middle-eastern countries that have been fighting some kind of war for the past few hundred years or better, mostly about whose god has the bigger dick, and he got them to come to a at least a temporary truce shortly before Joey stole the election with his voter fraud! There's a LOT of other things he did for this country, too, if you'd only LISTEN. The best thing is, he did it all FOR FREE!!!
The wall was never built? You mean the one that Joe made them stop building so illegals could come here and destroy the country/
China has nukes, too, and they are our biggest threat!! Okay, I can't give you a full list, but here's a few of the things he did;
put an end to ISIS
started doing his job the day he was elected, instead of waiting nearly 3 months
did his job for free!!
got thousands of jobs for people within his first week after the election
created SHITLOADS MORE jobs and actually had more jobs available than there were people to do them!
Found out about a cure for covid and created a vaccine
stopped a war that was about to happen against us
Built at least something like 70 (or was it 700?) miles of wall along the southern border
got a pipeline deal so we could have even cheaper gas than what we already had, thanks, also, to him!
Caused prices to drop across the board
Etc., etc., etc!!! - +1 y
