Why do adults tell teenagers to be themselves but then complain about them and judge them when we do?

That's just the nature of that age range. One of the most dangerous things in life is a little bit of knowledge. Know just enough to get into deep shit and not enough to recognize or get out of said deep shit.

It's an unavoidable aspect of life and the learning process. The only real way to really learn that lesson is to make it out alive and the only helping hand adults have is screaming and yelling because they recognize their own behavior as a haphazard luck they made it through.

My parents died (mother's anniversary was today.) and that was more for myself helping me understand my 22 year old brother to be honest.

So umm. So your parents have concerns about your friends, just listen to the advice and if it becomes realistic concerns you know somethings up. Parents are people too. And a little bit of knowledge... blaw blaw blaw.

Maybe hear them out and let them vent the warnings they are scared about. Don't take it personally throwing shade on your friends but an overall warning on every day people you could meet amd go from there.

That's the arguing point with my brother. I accept i don't know jack shit about anything and i lean on experts on our probate (legal process of Inheritance) case.

My 22 year old brother has that little knowledge getting into trouble and I'm the one legally responsible person saying "I'm trying to figure shit out just chill the fuck out for a second"

yeah, i think as young people we need to accept there's some things we dont know yet and we have to learn them over time

Biggest take away from my last year is "I'm a dumb fuck that doesn't know anything" from there i learn a fuck ton of stuff and was able to figure shit out.

If i pretended to know anything i would be rolling down this hill a year later. I swallowed my pride being a dumb fuck and put my foot down and started learning. You don't have to wait until your parents are dead to learn from them. At their best of advice and their worst advice. They are people just like you. Trying to figure life out.

Honestly I wish I knew. My brother does this and he’s 5 years older than me but is constantly criticizing my actions based off of his own like he didn’t get a job fast or anything or learn to drive until 18 or so but he wants to me to achieve these things faster than he did so I’m not left behind. I get it but I’m not in a rush and I don’t need your nagging or micromanage (still wants to dictate my choices with dating etc)
