No! Nor do I think it's right to ban Speedy Gonzales, as they just did a few weeks ago!! Why is it white-based characters are okay, but not ones with so much as slightly darker skin? It's JUST a cartoon character and, in most cases, they are depicted as they happened to be, at least at that time. If any of this bullshit is good, why has removing a picture from a box of rice or a bottle of syrup a few years ago not brought about world peace by now? Is it because they're still working on Pepe Le Pew? What's next, we're no longer allowed to hire Americans that can do accents to portray anyone NOT American in movies, t. v. or commercials? So, I guess Levar Burton is racist for his role in, "Roots"? An American actor pretending to be an African!! Doesn't that count?

Your post gave the impression that such a lawsuit had actually ben filed but it apparently never was filed. Pressure on local television stations led to the stations refusing to air such ads and it was that pressure which led to Frito-Lay abandoning the character.

My description was an exact quote of what the lawsuit would have been. The gist of my question isn't whether or not the lawsuit happened, but why was this even a thing. If the lawsuit happened, these would be the points I would bring up in court.
1. Does a single Mexican cartoon character represent all of Mexico?
2. If associating Fritos with a cartoon Mexican is bad, then what nationality would you suggest?
3. Should all mascots be banned, so as not to offend anyone?
4. If the basis of this suit is about someone being associated with unhealthy food, why not just ban the unhealthy food?

I am reminded of the NCAA's attach on my alma mater, FSU. Back when they were on the "warpath" about eliminating Indian names and mascots for college teams, they set their sights on FSU. They said that using the Seminole tribe's name was derogatory and demeaning to the indians.
The NCAA had not done their homework; they had not talked to the Seminole Tribe. Before FSU adopted the Seminoles as their mascot, we asked the tribe's permission. The consulted with us over the years and we responded to their suggestions. Finally, the Seminole Tribe told the NCAA to go to hell and that was the end of that.

What peaked my interest in this story was the reason for the lawsuit. The lawsuit basically said that they were glorifying eating unhealthy food, and associating that with Mexicans!!!
First of all, most everyone eats some unhealthy foods, so who can you have as a mascot? So no matter what race or nationality you chose for the mascot, this lawsuit could be the same. So I guess you really can't have cartoon mascots that depict humans. Also, if Fritos are such toxic waste, why not just ban the product, instead of the mascot?
