Well, to each his own, but swapping out Florida for California is more than a trifle eccentric. It is not exactly a garden spot - as the tor**** of Californians moving to Texas and - yes - Florida, amply attests.

Not for nothing did the late newspaper columnist Mike Royko once write, "There is no point putting a fence around California. Because even if you did everyone in there would just flap their arms and fly out."

I teach at a college and there is a journalism professor that used to write a daily column in one of the local papers I remember him a little because he had been retired for years. I remember writing him a letter when I was in junior high school about one of his columns.
I got to know this guy a little and he was really impressed that i remembered him. He did not remember the letter however.
