I don't think very many people believe that vaccines - in general - are bad. There are people who have concerns about particular vaccines being linked to the development of specific conditions. With respect to the covid-19 vaccines, there are many people who question the need for the vaccine, and the safety of the vaccine because of the short amount of time spent in development and testing.

You must remember that there are flu vaccines, and most Americans do not receive them. In the 2017-2018 season, influenza caused 61,000 deaths in the US. www.statista.com/.../

Scarcely a word is spoken about the number of people who are unvaccinated against the flu every year. The COVID-19 pandemic represents a very pronounced intersection of medicine and politics, and many people resent the political aspects of the public health message. Also, Dr. Fauci, in particular, has done an absolutely terrible job of presenting information in a forthright and honest manner and it is not unreasonable for thinking people to question what the government has told us about this pandemic and about the vaccines.

I am NOT an anti-vaxxer. I was Pfizer vaccinated in February/March and had no untoward effects whatsoever. I think that the antivaxxers are misguided and I strongly disagree with their conclusions but I see no benefit in casting aspersions upon their character or their intellect.

No one said that vaccines are terrible, that is just an awful attempt at a straw man argument. What people have pointed out is that this virus in particular has such a low lethality compared to others that demanding every one be forced against their will to take it (even though you would argue that a woman murdering her unborn child is perfectly acceptable because its "her body" yet when it comes to vaccine this reasoning goes out the window) is rather insane. They are arguing that this vaccine was rushed and has shown side affects which these companies are not legally liable for and some of them have even caused (in rare cases) death, therefore its up to the individual to decide which is a greater threat to him or herself.

But then you knew that, you just want to force your will on others because your an authoritarian and authoritarians always try to hide their tyranny behind phrases such as "Its the right thing to do/its to protect others/its what is best for the group.".

I think the issue with the current vaccine is it doesn't work like all those other ones did, and if you read on the history of vaccines or any medication, there has been a lot of mistakes and trial and errors to get to this point where benefit outweighs the risk.

In Australia for examples the AZ covid vaccine is discouraged for those under 60 years old because of the adverse effects people had, so anyone under 60 that rushed out to take it actually gave themselves a greater chance of injury.

The hard line anti-vaxxers are actually quite a small, vocal group. Most people are just taking a cautious quite rational approach to it. It's all about risk/reward and the unknowns.

My understanding is that the rise and fall of polio is strongly correlated with insecticide and pesticide use, such as DDT, and doesn't have much of a correlation with the vaccination programmes.

In any case, for the 500th time, most people aren't against vaccines (although a side effect of all this is that they probably now are); they're against experimenting on the whole population with novel medical treatments still in clinical trials, coercion, and not providing informed consent.

Is that what you hope to do with the current COVID vaccines, wipe out Polio? Well I guess if you kill enough of them, they won't be able to shit on their hands and stick it in their mouths. Every medical treatment has to be studied individually and across different demographics. Just because one medical treatment works, doesn't mean all are effective or ethical.

COVID "vaccine" does NOT prevent people from getting the SARS virus. It does not prevent people from spreading it. It can only help relieve the symptoms, and for many, there is also a bunch of side effects to still worry about.
