Daniela I do believe going into Afghanistan in the immediate wake of the 9/11 attacks was the right thing to do. But the mission should have been limited to routing the Taliban, destroying the terrorist training camps, and decimating al Qaeda to the greatest extent possible. Instead the neoconservatives turned what should have been a limited mission with specific parameters into a very naive and misguided nation building exercise without any clear endpoint. They thought that our Western values of democracy and human rights were universally accepted. But they didn't realize that Afghanistan is an almost medieval country with no desire for what we were selling. And so the engagement became a counterinsurgency much like Vietnam in that a significant part of the Afghan population hated us and would continue fighting just like they had done with the British and Soviets. Counterinsurgency fighting is an abuse of our military in that they don't always know exactly who is the enemy and who isn't and their rules of engagement are restrictive. The Afghan government we installed was corrupt and didn't like us either. And so we stayed 20 years in a war that was ill-defined and unwinnable. We needed to get out but we needed to do that with planning and competence. And for certain we needed to get all American and NATO civilians out of the country before withdrawing our troops. And we shouldn't have closed the Bagram air base before that was done and left so much military equipment in the hands of the barbarians. The failure of Biden and his administration in all of this is mindboggling.
I agree! You can limit intelligence but there is no limit on stupidity. Too bad the President can't get fired. They just say "I'll take the heat for this." but that doesn't mean shit. A cop gets crucified if he was responsible for killing some crook and could get sent to prison. But if the President is responsible for the deaths of thousands it's oh well! Shit happens!
Thank you for MHO.
I don't approve of the war, but if they had actually gone in, f*cked sh*t up, and brought democracy to Afghanistan, everyone would've been better off in the end. But instead, the US leaders had to start off, big dick swinging, and then puss out for 90% of the entire thing.
It's so frustrating! Trillions of dollars wasted, and f*ck all to show for it! We definitely should've either stayed in there until the job was done (as to not waste all that time and money), or gotten out ten years ago. But to not only leave like this, but in such sloppy fashion... I'd say Biden should be impeached on that alone, but we all know he was never elected in the first place, has no actual power, isn't actually making any of these decisions, and the whole Biden administration are a bunch of f*ck up, retarded Democrats who'd rather cheat their way to power, then look like a lost kid holding his dick when it's time to actually start using that power.
To think, these ASSHOLES were never elected in the first place, and THIS is the sh*t they do? And all you Orange Man Bad dumbasses are complicit in supporting this BS, as well. You wanted Trump out so badly, as to even allow cheating, and THIS is what your wish has gotten you.
Thanks for the MHO. Thought I'd add this here, to spice things up.

I actually have some slight (emphasis on SLIGHT) sympathy here for President Biden in this situation. He was correct when he said it was going to be a mess no matter when we decided to leave Afghanistan. However that doesn't excuse him for turning a "mess" into an unmitigated unorganized sloppy haste of a disaster. The "there's no good time" argument is not a valid excuse for incompetence.
On a side note, when the ENTIRE TALIBAN LEADERSHIP took time out of their obviously very busy day to update their Twitter accounts and Facebook profiles to "In Charge" while posing for Instagram pictures in the Presidential Palace in Kabul, why didn't we bomb them? Why? WHY? They spent DECADES in hiding and no one in our entire government thought of this? President? Vice President? House and Senate majority leaders? House and Senate minority leaders? Secret Service? FBI? CIA? The Pentagon? Supreme Court? Governors? All the leaders of all the branches of the military? All the previous Presidents? The janitor? NOBODY? No one picked up their phone and called President Biden and said, "Mr. President... I've got an idea." UNBELIEVABLE! I watched that dumb shit happen live and THAT WAS THE FIRST AND ONLY THING THAT ENTERED MY MIND: "We should be dropping a giant bomb on them right now." Nope! Everyone was asleep at the wheel.
Government makes my brain sad.
Maybe because new leadership would not be a problem for a bunch of thugs to come up with. Shit fosters shit.
You're not wrong, but at least make them put in the effort of having to regroup and find new leadership.
The government is too busy trying to figure out how to screw it's citizens to figure that out.
Sometimes doesn't seem to amaze me this shit that we do over and over and over and we still can't get it right. You would think common sense with factor in some place sometime somehow somewhere with somebody
Like I said, the more it stays the same.
The new boss like the old boss! You know that song? The band?
We lost in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afgan, and some more because we didn't try to win. You need to kick ass not kiss ass if you want to win. We go in and start great then we never finish.
True, but at unlike some men, they know when to "pull out".
was I describing your last Boyfriend? lol
Quiet!
That was a yes I think
Wars are generally contentious issues, when your soldiers are fighting them half the population wants them to come home, when they come home everyone cries betrayal, the fact of the matter is that little George Bush and his goons got you into that mess, he is the fucker that needs to be held accountable. Everyone is blaming Biden, he just inherited someone else’s shit work.
When you inherit someone's land it doesn't mean dump it. At least not like the US suddenly left leaving the people to deal with the sudden fallout.
It was a boondoggle, and a huge source of corruption and siphoned-off money. The mission should have been limited to destroying Al-Qaida there.
THe photos are a great juxtaposition especially since Biden said there would be no people being airlifted off rooftop like in Viet Nam
We already know Biden doesn't even remember what he said in the past.
The problem is we feel the need to "nation build" when we should just conquer.
Besides, in both Vietnam and Afghanistan we were shooting the wrong people.
My heart goes out to those who served and those who died only to have the government stab them in the back, by pulling them out with no plan.
When has it been different?
This ones actually worse than Vietnam.
Slow Joe screw it up
