But…because so many damn rich dynasties get passed from asshole to asshole I’m for strong inheritance tax.

Ideally, we'd all be responsible for the success or failures of our own lives, but I think that's too contrasting to our fundamental human nature as parents to work hard in selfless ways to secure a future for our families.
My main motivation for continuing to pursue my career and investing in things that have long-lasting value is not so much for myself. It's to secure a future for my loved ones even after I die. If it was just for myself, I'm a minimalist and frugal in nature and never felt the need for such luxuries like my own house. The whole reason I worked so hard in the first place and saved up to buy a home was with the hope and thought that I can take care of my loved ones.
You take away my ability to pass on the fruits of my labor to my loved ones and you take away the bulk of what motivates me to work more than the bare minimum in the first place. I suspect that is true for most people, even the rich. They might appear selfish to our eyes but I think many of them are still motivated, even if they get tangled up in their empire, to pass those fruits onto the people they care most about, like their children.
So I went with no, at least in any market-based society built on trade and private property like developed nations today. I could see a stronger argument to eliminate inheritance in some sci-fi future like Star Trek where everyone can live comfortably in their living quarters without any need for money (basically fully-automated luxury communism, which I think is implausible with today's tech and possibly never plausible with the nature of humanity).
Hey, some people do extremely well after an inheritance and use whatever they get VERY wisely. To them it becomes a launching pad to help them be more successful in life.
Others waste anything they're given through foolish spending and living.
If Daniel Craig doesn't care to leave his family any inheritance, that's his prerogative. I've NEVER expected ANYTHING from my family. First of all, if I don't get an inheritance, no big deal. It was never mine to start with, so I've lost... NOTHING!
Whether you leave anything to your family and friends is totally your choice. You entered this world with nothing and you will leave it the same way - with none of your possessions!
Your first four sentences say it all. There are dozens of sports stars who lived "the good life" and are now penniless, couldn't even keep some money in a CD and at least earn a tiny bit of interest. Just blow it! Our daughters both handle money very well, as do their hubbies and kids. We've been gifting them some of our net worth each year so we can watch them enjoy things NOW- this would be much harder after we've passed. ;- )
@Massageman - your daughters have smart parents to teach them that responsibility. Not only that, but they were wise enough to marry equally responsible husbands! May your family enjoy life and live long lives!
Maybe because we're 100% Bohemian/Czech - - - - - I love it when someone calls me a cheap Bohunk!
i don't believe the government should get inheritance... if any of you dunces knew how government works you'd have a different tune... you don't have a clue how much is stolen how much is misappropriated or just mishandled... polticians are always trying to create buckets and they love buckets so they can take from them... like the environment tax which will pull in 3 tillion but it's really going to be 5 trillion dollars... you all knew biden took 1.5 billion from china but only 1 paper reported that out of 100's and you still don't believe there's a conspiracy going on
Not completely. The idea of working to provide a better life for your children than you, yourself had is an important motivator. And not all inheritances are monetary, land, property, family heirlooms should not be touched. But limiting monetary inheritances to say one million dollars is more money than anyone will realistically need to do what they want with their life, while avoiding the trap of hording money and increasing the ever persistent class separation.
I honestly like the way Bill Gates put it. Basically he says he wants to leave enough behind so that his kids can do whatever they want, but not enough so that they can do nothing.

Nope. Parents want a better life for their kids then they ever had. I get that some don't want their kids to be spoiled, but that can be done easily. Otherwise they're making excuses and can't manage. In terms of inheritances though, everyone should have beneficiaries for everything, and they should be their kids. Much better than having the bank or government take it. I mean sure, if you want to write a will and give some to charity, that's fine. But at the very least, make sure it isn't going to the bank or government.
People work all their lives for what they have. What they choose to do with it, leave as inheritance, donate to charity, etc. is their choice, noone else's...
Government, strangers, even other family members have no right to think they should have a say in what people choose to do with their money/possessions..
Who downvotes this?
@EnglishEuropean either a retard lolol or one of the users that downvote all my opinions just to downvote, which don't know why people think that really matters lol I'm old school pre internet era, so I don't live for likes, internet popularity like some do...
Everything I pocess is going to my kids.
If I didn't have a will, our home and everything I own would go to the government.
I don't care if my kids could survive on the inheritance alone, without having to work. Why would I want them to struggle through life when they can have it all for free, from me.
Because being productive is the point of life…?
They can still be productive with an inheritance.
Not really.
If course you can lol
I don’t care what Daniel Craig or X Y Z says! They are trying to destroy life as much as they can.
They destroyed communities / families ✔️It’s done - kaput !
Now they want to add more to their shi7 ?
Oh I don’t buy their Hollywood propaganda , have you realized by now families that stay tight, families that share their wealth are the most powerful families in this world.
Drop that coin to your child fool
Daniel Craig is here for the nwo same as the vegetarian Arnold Schwarzenegger 🙄🙄🙄🙄 who used to eat an egg with its SHELL now claiming he is healthy eating a salad leaf… with tofu.
stupid ass bot
I guess your a vegan
Its up to the person to decide what to do with it. What are the options anyways, just force give to charity or give it to the government?
I tell my parents though, I hope to inherit nothing... I want them to spend every dime they earned in their life, its their money and I want them to enjoy it.
That said, most rich people do not get their millions/billions by inheritance a small percentage do, but most earn it themselves.
It wouldn't work, it would only mean they would transfer the riches before they die. And why would the state get the money. They deserve it less then the kids does. If you want fairness, you don't start with inheritage, you make sure there is free education and health programs. Then you do the impossible and start taxing the rich and especially the wealthy companies. But since the government is ruled by these people it's here your dream ends.
If someone earns some wealth in their life, they should be able to decide what is done with it. If people want to leave it to their children or their wife or whatever, let them. What do you want to do, give it all to the government? probably. No, let people decide what to do with it, and the government should stay out of it completely. Money is taxed already, no need to take more of it just because someone died. I don't believe in death tax.
I'll do with my money whatever I wish. The government nor anyone else gets a say in what I do with it. If I want to give it to my kids, I will. If I want to donate it to charities I like, I will. If I want to put it all in a large pile, douse it with gasoline and light it on fire, I will. No one tells me what to do with what is rightfully mine.
YES (for my kids)
- When you understand how money is made you don't need to leave your children money.
- The best thing you can leave them is not money... It is how to make money.
- Like for 1 the worst way to earn money is by going to work.
All you people will sit here and say teach a man how to fish but none of you actually believe that...
So what happens to my property after I die? The government grabs it and gives it to a bunch of illegal aliens? I would rather it goes to something worthwhile like my kids and grandkids. I would even rather see it go to my pet cat.
You worked hard for your money. It’s your choice to give to who you want when you pass away. If you end up enabling and spoiling your kids well that was your own personal faulty decision. But again it was your decision.
One thing is for sure the fucking government shouldn’t get it. Especially after that money was already taxed to begin with.
Do you understand what you are saying?
Should "we stop"?
Who is we?
How do you stop?
By law?
This is private property. We are free to give our assets to whoever we choose.
Thank you.
No. And Daniel Craig said he won't leave a super inheritance, but he would leave his kids something.
I think a parent should leave all their wealth to their kids.
Life can can get extremely hard and money is the answer to life's problems.
That should be easy for me since I don't have any children (because I can't have any). However, I love a lot people and I've written them into my will.
:) :D
People should have the right to provide security to their family and children. If the goverment steals their money I view it as a violation of their rights.
The good this about this is that Daniel Crieg chooses himself what to do with his fortune and his opinion is repsected
No. There's a lot of people running around in western society who claim to know what's best and yet western society is circling the drain because too many people decided to ignore traditions and prove that they're smarter than our ancestors.
sometimes i think you say this dumb crap just for people's reactions because that's how bored you are with your life being controlled by your authoritarian government. Nobody has any right to tell a person what they can/cannot, should/should not do with their money and their possessions. If they want to share it with their family, the government should keep their nose out of it, because, although you'd like us to be, we are not a Socialist nation.
Idc i work day and night to provide for my children and i would only rest peacefully when i know they have a backbone even in my death. I would love to give them everything and secure their lives i work and breathe for them.
Daniel Craig's thinking is more in tune with upbringing, than political. He doesn't want his kids to be entitled, is all. But he WILL be leaving his kids and wife investments instead.
No, unless you can propose rigging the entire economy so everything always casts a fixed price that never moves
Zero inheritance means zero inflation or how about zero tax because it is all taken away by the state when you die
It sounds very communist
There’s a difference in giving $160 Million, which is what Daniel Craig is worth now and giving $500,000 in an inheritance. A $160 Million one-time payout for one person would end in disaster, especially if the person looks at it only as theirs to spend. If your parents leave you with a house or a boat or a small fortune of less than $1M, it is more of a blessing than a curse.
That should be a choice people make for themselves.
No point in stopping inheritances. If they are not passed down the government will just take it. The government already benefits too much for not doing any work so why pay them more than they already leech out of my checks and purchases?
Absolutely not. Why wouldn't you want to support your children?
You wouldn’t want to pass along you legacy?
You can still tech your children to do that and still help them. I guess I just don’t understand why you wouldn’t want to give your children every advantage you could.
Screw that- it's my money AFTER-TAX, not the government's.
The underlying (Communist) thinking behind that is that there is no such thing as private property.
only liberals think that , it would be too capitalistic. Only parents that wouldn't are self conceited hating miserable beings. The bible says a good man should make enough for his kids and his kids kids.
So - where should the money go? To the government? Because we all know how genius they are at spending money. Federal or state, or local? What about a business, who would take that over? What if they gift everything to their heirs on their deathbed?
They're optional now. Nobody has to do it.
I don't think they should be disallowed. It's your money if you wanna leave it to your kids then you should be able to.
Yknow taxes haven't stopped them in life why would they stop them in death?
The practice of inheritances allows to create long-lasting businesses, save property within family etc. It should be present, but not forced.
So your life's work should just go to the government to be pissed away on ideological programs? No thanks.
Nope. It's perfectly normal to pass money on to family members when you snuff it. What we should be stopping is inheritance tax. That money is only squandered on politicians' pay.
Simples...
I mean, their money, their choice. How these people raise their kids is also their choice.
What is even the point of working if when you die your money goes back to the state? But fair play to Daniel Craig, he can give his money to charity and leave his children to fall prey to the money lenders and crooked politicians.
I would provide my kids with a safe place to live and a vehicle to get to work if i had this dudes money while alive, if i died they get it all obviously this dude an idiot
I'm not getting a thing for an inheritance but it should not go away at all. So what everything should go to the 1% when you pass away?
Then what will Daniel Craig do with the rest of his money and property when he dies turn it over to the county? He’s probably just talking smack
Absolutely not. Why wouldn't you want to support your children?
Of course comrade. Their possessions should go to the state. Good place to start weening people off owning property. The government should own it all.
If i work to buy a house, MY KIDS or brother WILL LIVE THERE or do what they want with it when i die, F*ck anybody that says anything else
Ohhh poor peanut did your mommy and daddy live off the government and left nothing for you? Awww poor sweety pie.
Nope, house on the water, truck and a beautiful property. Bust your balls and learn something OffBeMe , slave for a good 12 hour days 6 days a week for 4 months strait and you will understand when you save money that you can buy things without depending on others or the government to give you free shit.
No absolutely ridiculous. People can do what they want with their own money. What do you think, their money should just be burned instead of given to their children?
I agree in principle but not in absolute terms and where the line should be drawn is not clear to me.
That type of thinking leads to these people living in a urine and drool soaked mess at a nursing home, with no one ever coming to see them.
What? What are you going on about?
It's not just money. It's items too. Why would I want my dad's stuff to be sold by the government
Who would the money go to? Why are we even thinking about this? Let's just make our money
I want to be able to help my kids, yet don't want them to be spoiled, so balance is the key. So don't leave them everything, but don't cut them off to swim alone in the ocean.
It shoukd keep on going in the bloodlines, if my son inherits my stuff he or she can keep on building on to it. Rather living it in the hands of some awkward people.
Well people should be able to do whatever they want with their money
What people bequeath to others in their own family is their own damn business
Money and property inheritances above a set amount? Yes!
This simply sounds like a way to steal from people when they die. It should go wherever the person wants it to go.
Seems like the sort of thing individuals should work out for themselves.
Nope. I only work to provide for my family and accomplish my goals.
So the next gen can get ahead start
Its kind of silly to talk about something thats essentially a family matter with the public.
i would gladly take up arms to protect the rich against little marxist flies like you
Yes inheritences should be transferred to the state treasury.
Oh look, a little up and coming communist spouting totalitarianism and total control by a centralized state. She hates the American dream and the freedom and liberty from tyranny people fled England from hundreds of years ago. She ignorant to the evil people that leads these totalitarian, communist regimes and of the millions and millions of deaths, executions, poverty that has come from communism over the last 100 years.
Don't be a fool... learn your history.
I didn't even mention my political ideology. you immediately blame the communist people. ok the best ideology is your ideology. I think you should learn some manners first.
That is because you clearly just declared that personal, private property of the individual should be confiscated by the government. I have very clearly labeled the ideology you plainly called for.
I gave an appropriate answer to the question title. Why are you getting defensive right away? Do we have to come up with positive answers to the question that are in line with your opinion?
It says you are under 18.
I don't want some ignorant newbee who doesn't know anything about history, freedom, liberty, and the evils of totalitarianism and communism coming along and voting for those who think everything belongs to the government. Governments are made up of evil people. Self serving, greedy, oppressive people. That is why the USA was formed to let people govern themselves. You just spouted you think everything a person earned, owned, built their entire lives should just be stolen by the government. If you only knew how ignorant you sound.
It doesn't have to go to the kids if they don't want, it could be given to charities, needy people they know, friends, certain organizations. Whoever they want... it is the fruit of their life.
No, you want the corrupt, wasteful, government to steal their life's work.
Shame.
I am over 18 years old. and I vote for a leftist party that defends equality, justice, the rule of law and women's rights. Do you have any objection?
You have a right to your opinion and I mine… mine is your a fucking shill to the socialist party.
Wdym fucking lawyer, are you high
You are a supreme retard.
@joeldalton This is yet another case of liberals believing that only they know best but since others may have different opinions they will use the full force of the government to enforce their ideas and opinions. The asker doesn’t have anything significant to leave behind and at the same time he doesn’t want anyone else to have anything from their family. Good fathers and mothers can make life better for their children in many ways and that is just one of them. A few years back one liberal woman called on white parents to stop reading to their young children so they would be on -at with black children. This inheritance notion also has the smell of racial policy but that won’t be admitted.
No surprise you're for high inheritance taxes. Only because you know you won't ever have enough to pass on a lot to your children.
Just be honest and say "I'm jealous of people more successful than me so I want to take their things"
Their wealth is not your property.
He is only partially pissed about the money. He also is pissed that he started with little and still has little so they should to is the notion. He dresses it with not wanting dynasties and economics when it is about anger and resentment. But you are right, it’s not his property which is why he wants the government to take it so he can feel better.
I don’t need a 9-5… at all. But I do work because I like it. So do many others who could sit on their ass all day. I can be fun and better than dinking around for years at a time. I have sat at home for quite a while and found that my brain became duller by a lot (insert you random joke here). Anyway, I will eventually hang it up and am unsure how I will stay sharp. I may start some businesses as charities meaning businesses that provide jobs and value and spin off money for charity, a 503 (C) I guess but I don’t intend to run it longterm, perhaps start a series of them. Anyway, enjoy your dinking around.
Individual rights > collective rights.
No. It's an individual's choice.
Of course not
