Do we take domestic violence seriously in the USA?

What I find hilarious about domestic violence in the USA is this kindergarten understanding of domestic violence. There are too many dumb bitches, media, and academia that treat domestic violence as men are 100% perpetrators, while women are sweet wholesome creatures who are wholly innocent that were out picking flowers in the meadow and this brute came along and started to beat her ass. He went all WWF on her - choke holds, arm bars, pile drives, the whole nine yards.
But the reality of the situation is that women contribute to domestic violence and not in a small percentage. I recall when I lived in Philly, my neighbor was a coke and pot dealer. And it was quite common for myself and neighbors to hear the violence start around 7 PM every other night. She would start yelling at him, we'd hear her slapping him, and then boom her ass went flying into the wall. Eventually the police would show up 1-2 hours after it started. They would sit them down sort out who was the first person to throw the first punch, etc. etc.
I will close with this, a few years back the FBI did a data analysis of men who were arrested or had police visit due to domestic violence, what they found was that after being visited by the police the man never had a domestic violence altercation ever again. On the other hand, the women who were visited by police would continue to have repeated domestic violence situations. The report didn't say the following, but I would imagine that many of those women are either bi-polar, have borderline personality disorder, or are narcissists.
Most women who have continual domestic violence experiences actually seek out and enjoy domestic violence sexually. They cannot get aroused by a man who isn't "man enough" to beat them. This is why women who are given assistance to leave go back. They get horny and want a "real man". And if they can't go back they will find another man. Getting beat but sexually fulfilled is more desirable than being unfulfilled sexually. Sometimes they can be explicit about this desire other times they will just poke at a man specifically to try and trigger violence.
Personally im a very aggressive man and these women seek me out. This is how i know it. Girls have literally came to me at parties and things where they casually know me or know of me and say stuff like "you're so strong i think about how your hands could hurt me" this was said to me very recently. I've had other instances of this.
in my opinion this makes up the vast majority of domestic violence where i think the benefit of the doubt should always be given to the male perpetrator. Unfortunately most women are fucked in the head or literally ask for the violence. To criminally punish mostly innocent men to get a few bad apples is not how criminal justice was intended to be in the united states at least.
No, hopefully some NFL players take the knee for ut this year.
Oh right, because that's gonna make a fuck ton of difference. They all take a knee and suddenly every abuser in the world comes to the revelation that hitting others is bad. Such a fucking miracle.
@SlightlyEccentric I think Anon's response was sarcasm and he is with you.
It’s a mixed bag.
Most people seem to only care about things that directly effect them or a loved one.
The justice system only cares if you break the law if you’re not rich.
There are also people here who would and have killed abusers themselves to avoid the failure of the justice system.
Well obviously not enough if Chris brown suffered no consequences for his actions, yes he’s famous but so was Justin bieber and he got jailed for a hit and run accident. Chris brown roams free when he literally abused someone, it’s sickening. And people still support him.
People pretend it never happened
Exactly, if you’re on any more popular platform like Instagram or tik tok, people still support him AND make jokes about this issue. It’s saddening
How does it make you feel as a female that we don’t care when women are abused
That’s just the stupid ones. Any sane person would know that people like Chris Brown and bills Cosby deserve to be in jail

Not nearly as seriously as we should.
It depends what the victim does to report it, there are very specific laws in my state that make domestic violence rather stupid. Everything thinks of it as major violence but the vast majority is not.
For example, these are real cases I've seen in court.
1. A woman, who in a fight with her daughter, got in her car to drive away and accidently drove over a small part of her daughters personal flower bed and harmed a flower.
She was charged with domestic violence and convicted.
2. A mother called the police on her son in law to report domestic violence against her daughter, because she wanted her daughter to come and visit 60 miles away, but they didn't have enough gas or gas money in the car to make the trip and he refused to ask his parents to borrow money for it.
Under state law, she knew if anyone called the police for domestic violence on them, that even if they found no evidence of that, the law required that one of them leave the house for 24 hours. If they came back before that, they would be arrested. The mothers goal was to get her daughter to come up and visit as she was having a panic attack.
The police showed up and found a broken clock and state law also requires someone MUST get arrested if they find broken stuff, so they arrested the man.
Domestic violence can be more than physical someone can break family heirlooms and other things that are sentimental to the other person, the law here is that if they find anything broken they must arrest. He was not convicted of domestic violence but had to spend the night in jail.
3. A family with a single long drive way, had to park both vehicles lengthwise... one in front of the other, someone called the police to report domestic violence and ended up arresting the man who just got home from work, because he parked his truck behind her car, which is normal as there was no on street parking and that is considered domestic violence.
He was arrested and convicted, just by coming home from work and having the police show up 5 minutes later and say he can't park his truck behind her car, that is considered domestic violence... despite it being a really long drive way. In this case his wife did not want his arrested, begged him not to be, stated she had keys to his truck, could take his truck if she wanted and did not know who called the police to report them.
Protection orders are also very easy to get, I've seen people get temporary ones without showing any evidence of any crime or violence, just as tools to get back as someone they do not like, to have their guns taken away from them, etc... all it takes is a statement "I fear for my life" protection order granted. Now the person with the order has to hire an attorney and go through years of various stuff, even waiting over a year to have the order removed and cost thousands of dollars... just cause an ex lied to hurt him.
I've also seen people get protection orders to control men, knowing full well he cannot violate it but then come over and say, just do what I say and no one will know.
Not saying that domestic violence isn't a issue, just that they have gone too extreme. Those that beat their wife or husband, should go to jail... many women beat the man but men won't report it. Most domestic violence is actually against men, but the vast majority don't report it due to looking weak.
Nope, not even for women as much as it might surprise people to hear me say. Listen it's true NO ONE gives a flying F*** if a man is being abused by a woman, true. But with women it's just loud minorities of white knights and feminists form lynch mobs that dont do shit to help the situation either. The cops will def do something but ONLY if they know the situation. Otherwise she's basically still on her own unless she has a parent or friend that can take her in. This is why it's EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to secure a relationship with a STABLE individual before marriage or cohabitation. Ladies are better off with a more "boring" guy that doesn't drink at all then risking a drunk or a guy with no daddy in his life. But hey, they'll do what they do. Broken people attract broken people.
America doesn’t take domestic violence seriously enough. Too many women are in shelters, and too many men think it’s ok to hit women. Or to subjugate women to “house maker” roles.
There need to be MUCH stiffer prison penalties, the problem is that so many police in America are known domestic-violence offenders (their profession has the highest preponderance of domestic violence than any other). So they’re less apt to make an arrest, unless it’s a female officer, according to statistics.
If you or someone you know suffers from domestic abuse, you can seek help at the hotline. org
It's Green Privilege. If you have green, you have privilege, and you get to abuse the system and/or get away with abusing others. Otherwise it IS taken seriously. In fact, it's taken SO seriously, that sometimes faux victims will deliberately use an extremely sensitive system as a weapon by making false accusations and filing false allegations against innocent people, in the hopes of getting them stuck with an undeserving criminal record. Once discovered, faux victims should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, because they take focus, attention, time, money, and resources away from real victims with real problems and issues.
There are hardly any real victims. Any victim simply can walk away. Its bullshit to say they can't. Oh i got hit by a car i was so scared standing in the middle of the road i couldnt move. Nobody would buy that argument. People break up w their bfs and gfs every damn day, everyone is able to do that. If you can't do it, id love to hear why they shouldn't be declared mentally incompetent and institutionalized.
@bamesjond0069 You've obviously never directly dealt with someone with Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
And do those people have magic powers? Make it impossible to break up with them?
@bamesjond0069 Yes because people with Narcissistic Personality Disorder always know how to accept the word "no" and also completely go away on their own when it's over.
Why does accepting of "no" even matter? My ex didn't accept "no" and i hardly noticed. Just stopped paying the rent on our shared apt. Let the landlord know i was moving in according to the terms of the lease. Moved. She got served eviction and then moved to her own situation. She called me sometimes and we spoke. Nbd. Whats the problem? Usually its only women who dont want to get a job or rent their own place or pay their own bills.
@bamesjond0069 That's great, when there's no kids involved.
Ok raise the goal posts. Whats the next scenario? You can't accept a large portion under the umbrella of DV is pure nonsense.
@bamesjond0069 Sure there's plenty of nonsense... but "most" would imply that the nonsense level is over 50%. That's not the case. It's just over 10%. However anything over 0% is unacceptable.
No its definitely over 50% for sure.
Are you fucking kidding me? All a woman has to do is say he "put me in fear" and his ass goes to jail.
A conviction for domestic violence is a conviction for a crime of "moral turpitude" which means he can never purchase a firearm again, will have to list this conviction on every job application, will kill a current security clearance, and basically fuck the guy for years to come. What does it take to get convicted for DV? Simply displeasing your wife, live in girlfriend, or baby mama.
We take it seriously for women and never for men. When was the last time you heard an advertisement for women’s abuse shelters and reminding women that if a man hits you he isn’t a man?
When was the last time you heard an advertisement for abuse from women against men? I can only think of one time I heard this. Men are laughed at if they are abused. Men have virtually no support against abuse from their SO. I’ve seen countless videos of women abusing men online and it goes viral with comments from other women saying “you go girl!” “Show him who’s boss!” What would happen if the roles were reversed?
Men stop their abuser with violence. If a woman slaps a man he punches her. From his perspective its over. But this would be considered a male abusing a woman. If a woman slaps a man he can alternatively walk away. Men are not allowed to claim victim status. He can walk away. If he doesn't attack back or walk away he is a wimp. I agree with that. What i dont agree with is that the first instance is not an assault on a woman. Punching someone who hits you if the person in that instance does such a thing is good and just and fair. I also dont think women can rightly claim victim status. They can walk away and they usually choose not to.
well... that one man that intimidated one my best (girl) friends won a 3 month vacation at a hospital
had he dared to actually put his hands on her violently... I don't even want to think about that honestly
so yes, I do take it very seriously
no we don't. I think your statement is not fair to point to males only. This issue goes to emotional abuse both directions and physical abuse both directions... males being more physical in nature, females being more emotional. It's all abuse. We really need less emotional damage, more ethics, better training and preparation for relationships.
We need more support for men, they don't get it in media, you just demonstrated that.
America's justice system is corrupt. It only favors the wealthy and powerful, their definition of that is determined by the appearance of civilians. Why do you think the average black teen suffers for crimes he didn't do while wealthy black celebrities get away with hardcore felonies for decades? This can be said the same for whites, Asians, hispanics, literally fucking everybody.
#FuckThePolice
Only because the Duluth model ignores female perpetrators. Male defendants of a DV accusation I'd imagine are immediately condemned by the court of public opinion.
I think we as a society need to better understand the virtue of due process and why you should never make judgements on any case unless evidence is forthcoming.
Yes it is taken very seriously and also leads to jail time. Perhaps things went a bit easier for the guys you mentioned due to their fame and fortune. But that isn’t the norm.
There are two teirs of justice in this country. Justice for the rich and well connected and justice for the rest of us.
It has always been that way and probably always will.
Maybe one day when there is a 100% accurate way to tell if the accusers are speaking the truth. The motto is “ believe all women” women lie about their age, weight, sex life, diet, grocery list, car mileage, make up… sure, believe all women… smh
Nope, unfortunately that’s why there will be more crimes like this and worse until someone put an end to it with very strict law
Violence against women is not taken seriously anywhere in the world.
No we don't take it serious enough and whats fucked up is that we almost always blame the victim. His career should've been over but instead people gave him more fame and money afterwards
You're confused.
Rihanna became a cult figure because of that ass whooping.
No. Because you can abuse your wife and still get elected to the U. S. Senate. And everyone will just forget about it.
It seems that usually we don’t. Or if it is acted upon. Usually the action comes too late.
Also depends on who the abuser is and what they do !
Wasn't Ray Rice barred from ever playing in the NFL again?
Nope.. Money is money and they system is fucking broken
No we don’t people don’t teach their daughters self control
No not when it’s famous people or non famous people but the women is beating the man
what kind of violence is it when it is what you call Domestic?
Only if men do it... women are immune to guilt for abusing males/children
i really depends, Chris brown is in a protected class. The Ag didn't want to be called racist for arresting him. Also it helps he had money.
We don’t especially when to comes to dudes.
Rhinna cheated on him
SHE DESERVED IT
lol
No we don’t. On the both sides, men and women.
Compared to several other countries absolutely.
Only if the woman is the victim and is white.
Yes very
He should be a boxer
