Do you think people should raise awareness for male victims of abuse?

There's a story about a guy who was being beaten by his girlfriend and two guys also joined in on the beating. He went to the police but they didn't offer help so he dropped charges.

Excerpts from the article.

"A record 5,640 wives and girlfriends were convicted of assaulting their male partners last year — up from 1,850 in 2007."

"There are fewer than 100 beds in 20 refuges or safe houses for male victims in the UK, compared with 7,500 for women."

What do you think about the growing rate of domestic violence against men?

I don't think it's a "growing" rate, I think it's just that more men are reporting it these days than before which is a good thing. However attitudes still need to change in both women and men about this kind of situation because otherwise things won't change. Women were in the exact same situation about this issue decades ago and now they've got the good amount of help and shelters they've worked for. However the issue with men is that many are afraid of coming across as weak or a pussy for being abused by their girlfriend or wives or mothers. So they're less likely to put this issue out there in fear of being shamed and looked down upon. And in many cases when they do report nothing is being done because of those attitudes, and sadly a lot of the police are men that have "wow that's so weak" attitude. It's even the same thing in court. Although I can say it's not as bad as it was a few decades ago, but there's still a lot that needs to change.

I think the UK has some serious domestic violence issues on both sides. I wonder about the UK statistics not taking into account homosexual relationships as they could be overlooking even more victims. Oddly though it seems when it comes to USA male domestic violence it's generally homosexual not heterosexual.

To certain butthurt male SJWs... this is not the Oppression Olympics where you whine and rant about how the poor menz are the downtrodden victims who always have it worse.

I mean, it's an issue, but if you don't make it one then it must not be a top priority. An issue is only a major issue when a significant amount of the population believes it to be and people start speaking out. Men have this thing where they'd rather be torn down privately than speak up publicly and it's that mentality that hurts men whenever they feel mistreated. If they aren't willing to speak out against it, there's nothing anyone else can do.

Earl Silverman tried to make a difference in Canada, he ran the only Men's shelter in the country out of his own home. He fought desperately to get funding for it but no one gave a shit because it wasn't for women.

He killed himself right after he had to close his shelter because he could no longer afford to keep it operational.

Growing? It's been around for a long time.
I just think that it's usually more severe when a guy does it and it's taken more seriously even if it's not severe.
I've been hit by girls before or have had things done where if it was guy, I would have had to thrown a punch at him. I'm betting a lot of guys have.

People don't consider it okay for a guy to hit a girl under any circumstance. When a girl hits a guy, well... he probably deserved it. That's the mindset.

Here, I rarely hear about violence against men, it's mostly against women. However there's no denying that the issue must be here as well and it has to be addressed. Because violence against anyone is wrong.

I don't think it's on the rise, I think more men are speaking up against it than before.
Though men are still not treated the same when it comes to domestic violence, there's less shame than before.

It's been known for a while that women commit more acts of domestic violence than men, problem is, a man's slap is considered violence, a woman's slap is considered nothing.

Of course it should be an important issue, men being abused should get care and the help they need.

But women being abused is more of a problem because well it happens a lot more and well that just makes sense since guys are naturally stronger by 25%.

I doubt it's growing. It's just better reported now because some people are actually taking it seriously. Before you'd be laughed at for reporting your wife/girlfriend for domestic violence. That doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the system.

In my college we had to be in a lecture that told us about abuse. They said 85% of abuse is targeted against women. When it is more like 60%.
