Domestic abuse of men by their female partners... and do the new laws on domestic violence in general go far enough?

Here is a topic that is often not taken very seriously but it has just become headline news.

At first glance, the sentence smashed out to this woman seems harsh... until you read what she had done - and for how long she had been getting away with it. This case shows the female of the species can seriously be more dangerous than the male. We have had similar cases - and stories in the media - in recent years, but they're rarely taken seriously.

So... do you think the sentence is too harsh? Or is this level of abuse much more widespread than we have been led to think? Should there be a male equivalent of #METOO?

It goes without saying, ironically, for anyone who had done any reading of significance on the available dates that it is vastly under reported and there is no support structure for abused men.

Ironically much of what makes it so possible for men to be abused is the idea that it can't happen.

I'm afraid a sightly stronger physical frame on average and arguably sightly more dominating personality personality is no match for a society and police system that will always side against men and doesn't believe it is possible for them to get abused.

It reminds me of the rapant and unaddressed sexism heavy in pro feminist culture.

Neither gender is either blameless or incapable of hurting the other.

Which isn't surprising it's just that society has a fucked up and basis view on the matter for various reasons.

Well at least we could get some mens shelters and talk about the issue a little...

Only 7 and a half? I want that woman away for a decade, jesus christ, she attacked him with knives and scalding water. If a man did all this to a woman then it would be a way worse sentence

The reason domestic abuse in men isn’t as widespread is because men are ashamed and embarrassed to admit they are being abused by women.
Think about it men are taught from a young age not to show emotions as it’s a sign of weakness..
I think it’s defo widespread and should be treated the same as men abusing women, men shouldn’t be ashamed or feel shame.

@Dchrls78104 well as someone who had her dad batter her and torment the crap out of her when she was a kid then yeah I would take things like that serious, man woman or child. only a heartless pig would turn someone away who needed help

I'm sorry you had to go through this. In my country men abused by women are not taken seriously if they report it.

@Dchrls78104 which country are you from? UK has some atrocious cases in the last 6 months - Lavinia Woodward, Jordan Worth, Sally Challen... it seems to be a growing trend here.

In Trinidad much the same is true. Any man who reported his wife to the police for beating him would be laughed out of the police station!

Abuse is abuse no matter what gender you are or what gender the abuser is. If anything the sentence wasn't harsh enough. She probably won't even serve all of it.

Simple solution: Get rid of all domestic abuse laws. The best way to stop your woman from "abusing" you is with the back of your hand.
